What is it about Grier that keeps him calling the shots for the Dolphins.

You’re not using any context. You’re spouting “4 years and playoff wins”. That’s not context.

Apparently you don’t understand what top talent looks like or means in the NFL. No one with an ounce of credibility or objectivity would claim that the Dolphins aren’t a top 10-12 team in the entire NFL. Hell, Vegas has them about 10th in odds to win the Super Bowl. I think the Bills are 8th in odds. I guess Vegas has low expectations and has no idea what they’re talking about? Sharp football has them ranked as 5th best in the AFC. Lmao

Your lack of objectivity and context make your posts foolish and meaningless. The posts are whine-fests filled with ignorance and no semblance of reason.

I'm glad you are happy being a top 10-12 ranked team in the offseason who never wins when it matters during the season.

That's not good enough for a lot of us.

Yeah, because having no talent would be better. You need a new schtick. You also need to factor in context (I’m not sure how many more times I need to write that, but it seems some of you don’t understand what that means.) Another thing that may help you to enjoy this game is a little reason and realistic expectations. Any team that suffered this amount of injuries, even one as talented and well coached as the Dolphins, would not be expected to do so well in the post season. Well, normal and reasonable people wouldn’t expect that. However, having a very talented and well
cosched team has a much better chance of going further in the postseason than a less talented team. There’s no reason to believe that this team will suffer that same fate. Even so, with those injuries they won 11 games. Yes, they lost to the Super Bowl winners in the post season (look at that, context), and they have room for improvement (look, reasonable expectations), but there’s no reason to not be optimistic about next year. (look, objectively and rational thinking.

Where did I say that the Dolphins don’t have any talent? Show me! You said they are one of the most talented teams in the NFL, to me that’s top 5 and I definitely don’t see that yet and here you go again changing narratives and going back to your childish ways of insulting and belittling people. Grow up and it’s not your fault!

Where did I say that you said the Dolphins have no talent? "sHow Me"! lol It's like you're just pretending that I wrote something so you can stay angry.

They are one of the most talented teams in the NFL. Making top 15% in the league the limit on what a talented team is doesn't make sense. That's why I wrote what I wrote in regards to you not understanding what talented means or looks like. Any team in the top 10 in odds for winning the SB is one of the most talented teams in the NFL. You don't think so, fine, but you're wrong. And no one with an ounce of credibility or objectivity would think otherwise. I get being jaded and cautious. What I don't get is being blind to the changes that have transpired in this organization over the past 2 years and then somehow equating Adam Gase's or Philbin's or Cameron's years to these past 2. It's childish and asinine. And I definitely don't get the inability to have an ounce of optimism about a team you're a fan of. I mean, there are worse, you have at least half an ounce. lol

It's so crazy. One side of the argument has people who constantly are insulting people and calling them names, while simultaneously calling everyone on the other side "trolls.".

Sadly in most odds I checked Dolphins are not top 10 and a little more crying just for you, the „moderator“ did an excellent job of not erasing your lovely post to let everyone see, what a kind fella you are! Hugs!

Lmao… oh no. They’ve dropped to 11th recently. I initially wrote top 10-12. I should have realized that some here are not smart enough to understand brevity when needing to repeat things over and over and should have just kept writing more so they can understand.

In my initial post I was saying top 5 team but I played along with your changing of narratives and now they’re not even top 10 in most odds, how is that possible? I think most smart people as you like to put it, see the top 6 maybe 8 as real Super Bowl contenders. But all that aside, no playoff win next season and Griers seat should not only be cooking after all the resources and money he had to spend. Just like even the players said, no more excuses.

“The Miami Dolphins have put together three consecutive winning seasons, ended their playoff drought in 2022, and have the makings of a team capable of a deep postseason run in the upcoming season, so General Manager Chris Grier obviously has done some good things.

Tyreek Hill has Grier's roller-coaster tenure in Miami looking up. The top picks of the 2022 draft class were spent in trades, but the 2021 class (Jaylen Waddle, Jaelan Phillips, Jevon Holland) is good enough to make up for that. The Jalen Ramsey trade and David Longsigning look like steals, although there are still questions about the offensive line. Grier may have lost valuable draft currencybecause of Miami's tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton, but there's no guarantee he'd still have a job if that plan had somehow come to fruition, with Payton taking over as head coach. So this timeline is working out pretty well for him."

Rosenthal explained in setting up his rankings that the list "attempts to evaluate each current NFL decision maker on how he built his roster for the present and future, with past accomplishments weighed to a lesser extent. Draft record, coach hiring, free agency spending, cap management, trades and even handling of the press were all taken into consideration."
(Look at that.. there are other things besides “pLaYoFF wInS” to use to judge a GM…lol)

Grier officially became general manager of the Dolphins in 2016, though exactly when he became the chief decision-maker certainly can be debated — remember that Mike Tannenbaum had the title of executive vice president of football operations from 2015-18 and also remember that Adam Gase said upon being hired by the New York Jets in 2019 that he had been given personnel control by the Dolphins.

(What??!! I heard that Grier has been the GM since the beginning of the franchise and is responsible for every bad thing to ever happen to the Dolphins. Lmao)

    Same article:

Bottom line: Grier didn't get any favors in the NFL.com rankings based on the Dolphins' last three seasons (even though, yes, two of them ended without playoffs), but he's looking at some significant moment (up or down) depending on what happens in 2023.

Up or down and when it goes down, bye bye Grier! That’s all what people are talking about. If we rock next year and maybe even win a PlaYoFf game after 2 DeCAdeS and with all the ReSoURCes Grier had at hand, yeah, Grier should stay! I just don’t see that atm, gotta see it to believe it. No more excuses baby!

Great, you can’t see the future. Although, you’ll call him a failure even before that future happens. And you’ll disregard all improvement over the last 2 years so you can keep calling him a failure. Great work.

Bottom line, we have different ways and reasons for grading a Front Office. Personally, I want to see them gradually and methodically build up the team's foundation sucessfully before making big trades to give away resources, especially high draft picks, for veteran players who will be short term solutions. To this point, Grier has not excelled at the things that are most important in his job to me, and has in general run a high risk/high reward operation that I'm frankly not very comfortable with nor do I think is sustainable.

The only recent SB winning teams I can think of that did this were the Patriots and Chiefs. And they had Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. Those caliber of QB’s make what you’re saying possible. Unless Tua gets to that level, they’ll need to keep their status quo and sign big name FA’s like all other SB winning teams have done over the past ~20 years. The game has changed too much to “build through the draft” and be a SB winner unless you’re lucky enough to get a generational QB. Hell, even Tampa had to do that when they brought in an aging Brady.

I don't care about who wins the Super Bowl or what's done recently, honestly. That's being too narrow minded. What one of thirty-two teams does in a given season can't and shouldn't then automatically be the blueprint for the other thirty-one. I want to look at what the teams who build from within and then have sustained success with 10-12 win seasons over a five to seven year period are doing, regardless of playoff success. Any given year, look at the eight teams that made the Divisional Round, and a lot of them do it the way I'm talking about. Look at the teams that made the Div Round multiple times in a five year span and barring the ones with the super elite QBs, they almost all do.

That should be the Dolphins next goal. Then once they achieve that level and do it in a way that seems earned and sustainable (not lucky or one-off), then you can go big to try to go all the way.

I honestly don’t think there are any teams other than the Bills and Chiefs who have won 10-12 games over the last 5, much less 7, seasons. The Bills have went after many FA’s, and had less cap space than the Dolphins this past offseason. And the Chiefs have Mahomes.

Sure, but go back a little bit and there are plenty. And it doesn't necessarily have to be every season. All teams have down years. But steady regular season success over a moderate period of time is what I'm looking for. '

The Titans, for example, won 9, 11 and 12 games over three seasons not long ago, and made the Div and AFC CG in that run. That's awesome.

The Ravens of course have been on a run, with 10, 14, 11, 8, 10 & 13 wins, and making the playoffs each of those winning years, including three Div years and one AFC CG.

The Steelers from 2014-17 made the playoffs each year, including three times in the Div round and one AFC CG.

People joke about Dallas, but since 2014 they've made the Div round four times and the AC in two others.

Obviously the Eagles have made the SB under two different head coaches over the last seven seasons, and made the playoffs in all but one of those years.

Matt LaFleur has known almost nothing but success in his five years with Green Bay, with four trips to the Div round and two to the NFC CG. And I think he'll sustain that without Rodgers.

And of course the golden child example in SF, where Shanahan has made the playoffs and won 12+ games in four of the last five years, making four NFC CG and two SB in the process.

I’ll address your golden child to save time.

I don’t think the 49ers have had 12+ wins in 4 of their last 5 years. They are also huge players in the FA game. Lynch came on board at the same time as Shanahan. They both started their careers in San Fran with 6 and 4 wins, respectively, in their first two seasons. In year three they lost the SB. The following year they won 6 games. Then they won 10, 12, 13 games. They are also big players in FA every year and currently have only about $3m more in cap space than the Dolphins with a QB on his rookie contract. The team we are seeing now in San Fran won’t resemble the team we see 2 seasons from now. Will they still be juggernauts (albeit juggernauts that just can’t seem to win the big one) or will they fade away for a few seasons while they rebuild with people calling Lynch a bum? I’m betting on the latter because that’s how the NFL works nowadays.

The problem is that the team is absurdly top heavy and yet hasn't "gotten there" yet. Will we be in the top ten in two years made mostly from home grown and developed talent? I really hope so. Then I'll be a lot more comfortable.

They definitely need to keep good players coming in, but that’s true for all teams. And not many teams can say they have a “2 or 3 year window” with having a top 10 team.
