I would **** in my pants, as long as we don't have to give up much. I love Austin. I'd take him in a heartbeat over Marshall.
Sure would be nice. But, IMHO, there's no way Dallas let's him get away after the season he had. It's fun to drool over free agents with talent, but it's not often that teams stumble across rare gems like Austin only to let another team sign them. Dallas will find a way to keep him. FWIW, I'd love to be wrong...
See, this is what kind of sucks about this time of year. There are so many rumors and possibilities flying around that we all can't help but get our hopes up and get excited...and it rarely works out the way us fans hopes it would. But I echo everyone else here. I would LOVE to get Miles Austin.
While I'd enjoy Miles Austin here... I think the questions needs to be asked. Is he indeed the # 1 receiver we covet? Or is he simply just benefiting from a hot, breakout season. How to tell, I have no idea, I just feel the question needs to be asked. Sure he had a great year, but is it due to lining up opposite Roy Williams (probably not), but what is it? I just find it a slight bit weird that the guy has a great year this year, and now all of a sudden he's the #1 that teams covet. So goes life in the NFL... think back to the Lions... at one point... Mike Williams, Roy Williams, and Charles Johnson were all guys that people thought would be #1 receivers. Not to mention all the other previous incidents that are similar.... I guess the question is... Is he really the #1 WR we need, or is this simply an emotional reaction to the good season he had this year, combined with our need for a #1 WR, and Austin's previous connections with our front office... I'd be happy if we got him in here, but..... Im just a slight bit worried as to if he's the #1 we need, or if this is just wishful thinking about the fact that he had a great year and we're all excited. EDIT: also, FYI, I've had alot to drink tonight so the above may not have made sense, and therefor I appologize
I like him because you can tell he plays physical and with a ton of passion. It's so easy to see the difference between him and Roy Williams. He seems like an ideal 'Parcells' receiver.
hes hard working, makes a ton of YAC, and will play anywhere....not a typical primadonna WR.....hes an absolute perfect fit for the miami dolphins. if he becomes a dolphin i will be unbelievably excited!
do you really think miles austin wouldnt sign with us because of a number Moss wore 84 his career in Minnsota then wore 18 in oakland and 81 in New England a lot of people care less what there # is
For a WR stand point there is no way in hell i would take Austin over Marshall. austin had one good year not taking anything away from him but marshall has done it 3 years in a row now Marshall is by far the better WR and i would take him over Austin any day of the week Marshall is top 5 WR in the NFL IMO
Not arguing that Marshall is a better receiver, but I would still take Austin. He fits our team's culture to the T, unlike Marshall, and he's still a great receiver. If we brought in Marshall I would still be amped because that means that Nolan and the rest of the staff think that he would work out here, and I trust them enough.
Not to sound like a broken record, but can anybody provide a realistic scenario in which the Cowboys part ways with Miles Austin after the season he just had? I'm not asking to be a jackass, I'm actually curious if there's anyway this could really happen. Would it be a salary cap thing? Something to do with the uncapped year? But if I understand the implications of an uncapped year correctly, then I would see that as making it far less likely Austin would be grabbed by another team. If someone has a realistic scenario of how this could happen, I would honestly love to hear it. Otherwise it seems way too far fetched that a team would let a WR go who just had a breakout season. Especially being how hard it is to find these breakout guys. Imagine if Ted Ginn had the season this year that Miles Austin had. Do you think we would be talking about the possibility of letting him hit free agency?
not what I had in mind not a sure thing would rather see them pursue Dez Bryant than settle for something less @ WR for 2010 unless acquired @ a bargain basement price
we already have solid talent & even a rising PlayMaker on the team (BrianHartline) we need to go after the talent & potential of a Dez Bryant or regret it for a decade
Would love to have him, but no way Dallas lets him walk w/o it costing us way too much. BTW, does anybody know, did Parcells draft him?
Actually i was just pointing out Ginn has the same number and laughing about it,if Austin was grabbed by the front office the number won't amount to a hill of beans. There has been alot of talk here in the last months about trading Ginn so i just threw it out there.
The Titans and Dallas were the only two teams to show interest in Austin. Believe it or not he was a undrafted free agent Bill Parcells called him personally to bring him to Dallas.
I honestly thought Brandon London might have become something similar but that never turned out. We'll see what Miami does when it comes to WRs. They may bring in a tremendous number of players for competition purposes.
dallas has spent a lot of time and effort developing Austin into a top notch wr he aint going anywhere
While I sure hope you're right, he has an awful long way to go if he's going to surpass the numbers Austin put up this last season.
I agree he'll never be a #1 WR, but I think he can play a pivotal role in our offense for years to come.
