Your arrogance defines you. I know this is way off topic, but you guys should really take a step outside of your own country and see how the rest of the world views you. You can make all the jokes you want about Canada, but the thing is when you hear what other countries have to say about the US, sadly, they aren't joking.

I really didnt think you guys would be this bitter in here after loosing a hockey game.

Oh, I know. Its messing around when you guys wanna talk crap about our home, but if we did the opposite, we'd probably all end up getting banned, and start a war.

Bottom line is... a great hockey game was played today. We're happy, you guys are happy.

Now lets get back to some football. :hi5:

    1. Our beer actually has alchohol in it. If you think you have good beer, and it isn't Canadian, you imported it from overseas.

Spot on Bro, this was what the Olympics SHOULD be about, from the risk (let us not forget the Georgian who died) to the celebrations (Team Canada's women appeared to enjoy their win..:D) to a wonderful showdown between Team USA and Team Canada that went to OT to resolve.

TBH..I really really wanted a shootout for the win..how sweet would that have been?>

Congrats to Canada. They won the gold and they deserved it. Bravo.

We watched that game at The Distillery, a sports bar in Rochester. (For anyone in the area, the Winton Rd. Distillery) When Parise scored with 24 seconds left, that place exploded. I have NEVER heard a sports bar erupt with noise like that. Unbelievable. It was a MOMENT, I'm telling you.

I was bummed for about five minutes after that game, but got over it quickly. Honestly, if you had told me at the start of the Olympics that the USA would score a win over Canada, enter the gold medal game undefeated and lose in OT after a game for the ages, and end up with silver, I'd have taken it with no hesitation. This bodes very well for team USA at the 2014 Games...assuming that numbskull Bettman lets NHL players go. It should be a no-brainer, given the exposure it brings the game, but then, this is the same genius who thought that Phoenix, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa Bay and Charlotte were great NHL markets, so who knows.

The US didn't lose that game, Canada won it. Canada didn't win because the US sucked, or didn't work hard enough, or made a boneheaded play. Canada won because 22 years ago, God decided that Sidney Crosby would have talent that only half a dozen other carbon-based life forms have ever possessed. In the end, I can live with that.

So, bravo Canada, bravo USA. Let's hope it happens again in 4 years...with a different result. :)

Well, that was an amazing hockey tournament overall and a worthy Gold Medal game. A couple of thoughts:

    - Ryan Kesler is an absolute stud. Its a shame as an east coast hockey fan that I don't get to watch him play on a more regular basis, being tucked away in Vancouver.

    - A couple of other guys that really stood out for me were Patrick Kane and Zach Parise. Those guys (and Kesler) have a new fan. Parise just doesn't get outworked on the ice and Patrick Kane busting his backside on the back-check to break up Crosby's breakaway attempt in the 3rd period will go unnoticed with how the game played out, but what a HUGE play.

    - For all the talk about how much more talent Canada had, I didn't see it in 5-on-5 action. Canada had a huge advantage in OT with the 4-on-4 rules, but I didn't get the feeling during regulation that the Americans were overmatched. Not by a long-shot.

    - Phil Kessel was a dog this entire tournament. His style of play (a lack of physicality) didn't mesh with the rest of the roster. It was so blatantly obvious at times that I wondered what the heck USA hockey was thinking when they selected him to be a part of this group. He shouldn't have been on the team.

Regardless, this was one of the best hockey games (and tournaments) I've ever seen. I'm sad its over.

  28. phunwin

phunwin Happy kids are Dolfans. Luxury Box

I agree with everything you said. Parise was probably the best US skater (obviously Ryan Miller was the best player by a good margin), but I expected that. I did not expect Kane to be as good as he was. He was responsible on defense (he hasn't always been for the Blackhawks), and did not shy away from physical play in the least. I was extremely impressed with him, and pleasantly surprised. So much so that I'm going to make more of an effort to watch the Blackhawks on TV.

Kessel...well, let's just say I doubt very much that Peter Chiarelli is regretting getting 2 1sts and a 2nd for him. Kessel's own NHL coach was burying him on the bench; that's not a great sign. (Speaking of coaches, how can Ron Wilson do such a great job with team USA and such a wretched job with the Leafs? I love him for that, by the way.)

I don't fault the idea of picking him; they had a lot of bangers and grinders, and felt they needed some goal scoring touch. It was a good theory, it just failed in practice. They probably felt that they could shield Kessel from that and use him like the Bruins did last year; use the big bodies to create space for him to work. Didn't work that way. The Canadians were hitting everything with a blue jersey and Kessel wanted no part of it.

I would add that Kessel had the luxury of knowing that if any opposing player got too physical with him, Milan Lucic, Shawn Thornton or Zdeno Chara would beat the **** out of them. Doesn't work that way in the Olympics; who knew that fighting would actually HELP Phil Kessel?

    Agreed on Kane and Parise.

I'll be honest, the Canucks aren't televised a whole heck of alot in Boston, so while I knew Kesler was a player as a hockey fan, I didn't realize just how good he truly was/is. I loved the makeup of this group. Watching their forecheck, guys like Backes and Brown, was such a pleasure and it makes me sad knowing that I'll have to go back to watching the Bruins in a couple of days.

In regards to Kessel, I suppose I was just disappointed with his effort-level or compete factor. Being a Bruins fan, I knew he's not a physical guy but I felt like he wasn't competing at his highest-level. The term easily daunted popped into my head on several occasions, like working the puck out of the zone, for instance.

Regardless, it was a heck of a tournament. Now, hopefully the Bruins can remove their head from their collective ***es and make a push as we head down the stretch and into the postseason.

That is the general consensus here in Canada. It isn't unnoticed that you will have a strong team for years to come with a solid young core.

I honestly thought the US would have the advantage in overtime seeing that you guys are the faster team, much like the juniors this year.

Hold on a second, the Super Bowl is the most watched annual event in the world. And it IS played in other countries BTW. The only reason for it to be in the olympics would be to see who the second and third best teams are.

Check this out....4 out of 5 Canadians watched part of the game

    ************************************************

It was an epic game that delivered an epic audience.

Sunday's gold medal Men's Hockey game has become the most-watched television broadcast ever in Canadian history, with an average audience of 16.6 million viewers.

Nearly half of the Canadian population watched the entire game on average, while 80 percent of Canadians watched some part of the game (26.5 million). The game aired live on nine television networks in eight languages via Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.

"Crosby scores! Sidney Crosby! The golden goal! And Canada has once-in-a-lifetime Olympic gold!," called play-by-play announcer Chris Cuthbert as Canada clinched its record-breaking 14th gold medal. "These Golden Games have their crowning moment."

Additionally, the 2010 Winter Games Closing Ceremony becomes the second most-watched broadcast ever, as 14.3 million viewers said goodbye to Vancouver 2010. A total of 24.5 million watched some part of the broadcast.

Rugby is more the international sport played of all the football related sports. The other countries that you claim play American Football, still not sure who they are, do not nearly have the infrastructure in place to actually produce an Olympic team. Only the USA and Canada have that really. So no, IMO it isn't a global sport.

How are the USA and Canada at rugby? USA ranked 17, Canada ranked 14 (http://www.irb.com/rankings/full.html). Why so low? Same reason other countries aren't good at American Football.

Well, there was an International Youth Football Tournament played last year comprised of 18 and Under kids. The US beat Canada 41-3 in the Gold Medal game, but there were numerous European and Asian countries involved. (Even New Zealand)

And no, the reason Canada and the US aren't ranked great in Rugby is not the same reason as to why other countries aren't great at American Football. To say that is to suggest the US doesn't have the best athletes in the world. I've said this many times, I'll say it again; if the US wants to be the best at a sport, they will be.

We're a machine. Plain and simple.

That is my entire point as well. The USA doesn't care much for Rugby and the rest of the world doesn't care much about American football. No surprise the standings and current state of the sport in question are as they are now in the respective countries. If the USA's primary sport was Rugby I agree with you that you will be competitive and one of the top nations. But to state you would dominate any sport that you actually try in is a little overzealous. Baseball comes to mind. Although you guys are great at baseball, and it is called America's game in the US, you don't dominate the sport on a world level.

I agree and disagree. We don't dominate at Baseball, but really no one does. The US and Dominican are probably the two best, and there are about 5 or 6 different countries who are just slightly below us.

And no, I don't think it's overzealous to say we'd dominate any sport we tried. Now, I will grant you that other sports would suffer in the process. For example, if we decided tomorrow as a nation we were going to be the best Soccer country in the world, give us 10-12 (maybe longer?) years and we'll do it. However, our other sports would suffer slightly.

That's the amazing thing about sports in this country. That we can dominate a few and be elite in many others. No other country even comes close to that. As I said, we're a machine.

    Agreed.

But it is the level of funding you have for most sports. I caught a US High School lacross game on satellite and was amazed that the entire squad had wicked helmets, painted, new gloves, matching jerseys. Amazing. Also, the US give full athletic scholarships out - for every sport. Badminton, Track and Field, Soccer, figure skating probably. Here in Canada we don't have any full scholarships, even for the big sports like Hockey, Football, Baseball, Basketball etc. The level of funding and training in the states is world class on many levels and given your large population, I am not surprised you guys are elite at most sports. Not only that, your high school coaches get paid for a living and focus only on developing their players in one sport. Here no so, our coaches are simple phys-ed teachers. So, on the grand scale you guys are better suited for developing young talent with your infrastructure which I credit your prowess as a nation in sports.

Look at either the summer/winter Olympics. You guys usually get the most medals and that is a testament of the level of training and funding you guys have on every level.
