game looks so amazing. Story sounds absolutely ******ed, but it LOOKS amazing. All i want to know is if the combat is great. Ive heard it is.
I played the Japanese demo set up at a local Gamestop. Yes, the battle system is great. It's sort of a more interactive version of FF12's, with the classic Job System and FF12's Gambits merged into one system. Best way to describe it: FF7 Advent Children the Video Game.
this is screwing up everything. theres way too many games out now, and i dont have the cash or time for anything!
How? Japanese ver? American ver. doesn't OFFICIALLY come out till march 9th. Which I hope it is actually IN STORE that day b/c I have 24hr EMS shift the next day (the 10th).
LMAO The beginning is ok... Very typical corny. The black dude might be the corniest FF character of all time.
Yeah, if you expected Sazh to be another Barret, you're going to be disappointed. He does have a baby bird living in his afro though!
The bird is an extremely anime touch. Speaking of which. Everything seems very much like an anime... Which isnt a good think for me... I have the over-the-top try-too-hard to be cool style of anime action.
Well, Square-Enix IS a Japanese company... also, Tetsuya Nomura is an extremely shallow person. The characters are apparently pretty well developed, though. Lightning in particular. She's not a female Cloud (read: total jerk.) Sort of looks like Cloud though.
Squall loses the jerk attitude halfway through FF8. Cloud is a jerk the whole way through FF7, then abandons his girlfriend and two kids a couple of years later.
I dunno about this. Just over an hour in and I still have no idea what is going on. It just seems to randomly talk about some (seemingly very deep) story items in the world that makes no sense. It's almost like this is a sequel story and I missed part one. Combat is super easy so far and there isn't much to the game in the 1st hour except folloowing straight lines and pressing A to win any fight without a challenge.
Get used to it, the first dozen hours basically involve running in a straight line. From our friends in Japan:
Yup.. Not to mention the level itself is pretty empty and boring. FF12 started off MUCH stronger. Not connecting to any of the overly japanese characters. None are cool... Although they're trying very hard to make trench coat guy cool (and failing with me)... Trying to be cool is never cool. The voices are very bad (way worse than FF12 - which I thought had amazing voices). They're trying to do the Square thing by making a few tragic-ish events happen early on and I'm not buying into it... I just dont give two craps about these whiney characters yet. Welp... I'm still hoping for the best. I dont plan to get much sleep tonight.
You mean Snow? He seemed alright from the trailers. The thing with FF games is that first impressions never count for much. Really? Surprising, the voice acting in the trailers is great. The casting seemed pretty good and the acting wasn't overwrought. Even better, it didn't sound as if the actors were trying to imitate the Japanese VAs, which more than a few JRPG dubs have been guilty of.
Yes.... Which reminds me, Snow and Lightning? COMMON! This better all add up somehow LOL Not sure yet bro. To be fair, it's an RPG and I need to at least give it some hours before I make that call
If they were trying to pay homage to FF7, that's corny. A girl named lightning and a guy named Snow. Wack. Update, at 3 hours in, the story is making some sense. I wouldn't say it's captivated me yet... But it's gotten much better. They need to come up with better names for stuff (not talking about the chick and the dude).
They're not really homages, just aspects of Cloud's character that have been branched off and fleshed out. Admit it, the first time you saw Lightning, you thought she was a Cloud clone. (Thankfully, she's apparently much more than just a Cloud clone.) And just to work a little FF8 in here, from Wikipedia's entry on squalls:
Again I'm curious as to how you are playing FF13 as the american release isn't till march 9th... today is march 3rd (1:37am march 3rd lol)
Official play time when I went to sleep, 3h 57m. The story is coming together. Doesnt seem too epic yet, but has very cheesy "we're the chosen heroes" feel to it. Not bad by any means... But not on scale with the first 4 hours of previous games in the series imo. I think they tried to go too deep too fast and just ended up losing me. I'm sure there's players out there (Desides?) that will dive right into it and not be lost at all LOL
Granted I am younger so my memory and play time of older final fantasys was limited. But except for one or two people most had non_earthy names.
