If we were to go WR in the first round and Bryant is off the board we wont be picking thomas we would most likely go with Benn

I would rather fill any number of serious needs on defense first.

IMO that's way too high for D. Thomas. I want a WR, but I don't want to reach for one. I would take E. Thomas or B. Graham given the above scenario.

I like their reasoning for the Lions picking an OT. They invested too much in Stafford and Johnson not to upgrade their offensive line and have done enough with the DL to skip drafting a DT with such a high pick.

It wouldn't be totally upsetting to see that happen. At #12 I at the very least want a guy I consider a strong candidate to become a very good football player at the next level. I consider him to be a strong candidate for that.

From everything I've seen and heard, taking D. Thomas at #12 would be quite a reach. Many have him going in the 2nd or 3rd round. I've also heard of him referred to as "a project." Combine that with Parcells history (of not investing 1st round picks in WR's), and I just don't see it happening. I mean, anything is possible. But, B. Graham, E. Thomas and D. Williams all make much more sense IMO.

I see D. Thomas as much more of a possibility at #43.

I agree. I wouldn't mind them trading out of the #12 pick and getting an additional second or third rounder and I would consider D.Thomas with that pick.

I am not going to say that he would be a huge reach at 12. He just needs to be healthy to show his stuff. At his size if he runs a low 4.4 40 and has a great pro day then i do not think that he would be a mega stretch at 12.

Well, I like Thomas better than Bryant, so that's cool with me, but the big question is: Is that you in your sig pic? :)

I think at first he was considered a 1st rounder before he broke a bone in his foot, the initial knee jerk reaction was to knock his draft value down a few rounds. Heck, it seems like I even saw one mock draft that had him in the 4-5 area. The bone btw was not the lis franc like with Brown, but I believe one in the top of the foot. Anyway, after the dust had settled, draft analysts are moving him slowly but steadily back up. Pat Kirwin has him in the 1st and the first WR taken too.

Personally, I think Demaryius Thomas is the best WR in the draft and is going to be a fine NFL player. He is Calvin Johnson with not quite the hands of CJ, but better run after the catch and blocking ability. You play WR for Parcells, you better love to block. Thomas does and does it better than any WR in the draft. Once he makes the catch, Thomas has a devastating stiff arm and a will not be denied attitude in his quest to score a TD. It is a beautiful thing to watch. Granted his track 40 times are average, 4.5-4.6 by most accounts, but he is very hard to catch from behind and can outrun angles of pursuit. Also, with this kid there are no questions about his character. He is good person with a fine attitude and work ethic. Not some diva/Prima Donna type. If anyone fits the mold of a Parcells WR it is this kid, IMO.

    Let's see.
A long striding WR that's hurt going into TC and is very questionable at route running?
    Are you f****** kidding me?
Haven't we seen this very recently? Howd that turn out for us.

I quite likely will allienate myself from this team for a year if they did this. :pity:

Mr. C, prior to this mock, I haven't seen anyone (even before his injury) having him projected as first rounder. And, if anyone did, I would guess it was as a late first rounder.

Aside from his prototypical size, and above average blocking skills, here are a few of the negatives I've heard:

    • Poor route running/difficulty creating separation
    • Inconsistent hands and focus
    • Was not in a system that put much emphasis on the passing game

And, again...the term I've heard associated with him is "project." Now, I'm not saying he doesn't have talent. Nor, am I saying he might not develop into a very good WR. But, what I am saying is, and based on everything I've read so far, he would be a reach at #12.

    JMHO...

    D. Thomas won't be hurt going into training camp. He should be 100% before the draft without much issue.

And I'm pretty sure Ginn wasn't hurt heading into his first training camp either, I am pretty sure he was all healed up by then.

By the way, comparing Ginn to D. Thomas simply because of route-running ability and "long stridedness" is pretty short sighted IMO because they are two completely different types of players.

Thomas is probably no more a long strider or worse at routes than V. Jackson was coming out.

No, actually Ginn was lucky to be in Pre-season his first year. You don't remember the the Les Franc discussion where I go absolutely FLAMED for calling Ginn out as a bust as. #1 pick? Guess what, in that regard, these two are exactly the same player.

Being lucky to be completely healthy in camp still doesn't mean you can claim he wasn't healthy heading in to camp, if he was.

And D. Thomas' break is not a lis franc injury and the time needed to heal is significantly less.

If you want to call someone a bust because of an injury that doesn't hinder their ability in camp/preseason that's your prerogative, but comparing two players in very different situations and applying the same moniker; players who play nothing alike just makes you look short sighted IMO.

Yep, that's me, a shortsighted simpleton.
Just keep in mind, you and I were having this exact same arguement right after Ted Ginn was drafted

I don't remember having that argument, especially since I absolutely hated the pick when Ginn was drafted. In fact, I'd easily go as far as to say that it was well over 2 weeks before I really even became tolerant with the idea of him being picked over Quinn. And I didn't say you were shortsighted, I said that what you wrote made you appear shortsighted. I never called you anything close to a simpleton either.

And again. Thomas and Ginn are not even close to the same players or even coming from the same situations. Unlike Ginn, Thomas was recruited to play WR out of high school. Thomas was recruited to play in Chan Gailey's pro-style offense in fact, it was sheer bad luck that he wound up playing in an offense that ran the ball on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th down. While Ginn and Thomas both may be very coachable kids, with good work ethic, a solid upbringing, and significant college highlights, their play on the field is very far apart as well as their build and stature.

I have no problem with you not like Thomas or Ginn as prospect, it is when you compare Thomas to Ginn in order to knock him that I take issue. Like I said, you are entitled to your opinion I disagree though.

Also interesting is Earl Thomas going to Dallas at 27. I think he's a real possibility for us, and that would be a coup for Jerruh.

There is no way we draft Demarius Thomas at 12. That would be a huge reach. I would be shocked if Thomas went in the 1st. I would love to have him though, in the 2nd.

I'm going to put forth my Danny Thomas Memorial Draft; Earl Thomas in the 1st, Demarius Thomas in the 2nd and Cam Thomas in the 3rd.

No worries for you because this regime would rather fill needs AND depth on the entire defense before addressing the WR issue.

Whos also didnt take off till year 4 really (though year 3 he showed plenty). I think we need someone who can produce sooner than that.

    D. Thomas is a huge project and really his physical abilities are almost unknown since he broke his foot. I wouldnt touch him in the first 2 rounds and Id be hesitant in round 3 as well. Hype machine.

He may need some refinement, but a low pct of college WRs are totally plug and play as rookies.

I know of two off the top of my head that have him in the first. This one from TSN the thread is about and also Pat Kirwin's most recent mock draft has for WRs, Tate @19th, Thomas @21 and Bryant @27. FWIW.

I think a lot of the web sites that post mock drafts at least get some of their general player rankings from the more established draft sites, like TSN, Kiper, PFW, Coyle, nfl.com, Universal Draft, Ourlads, etc, anyway. When you see some of them moving a D.Thomas up, pretty soon many of the plagiarists follow suit

I definately give this mock credit for thinking outside the box on a lot of picks.
    Fins with Thomas.
    Spikes over McClain.
No Jimmy Clausen in the 1st.
    Dan Williams falls to 29th.
Kindle Wootton and Dwyer all in the 1st.

I seem to feel though that this is being overthought.
There are always reaches in the draft, but not usually 2nd round prospects vaulting up into the teens or a lot of players drastically dropping.

Of course, Jackson has never caught more than 68 balls in a season in his career, and many of his catches are jump balls thrown up. Jackson is by no means a crisp route runner, and benefits greatly from Gates occupying safeties over the middle.

Thomas is a big, strong, great blocking prospect, but he is extremely raw and runs about two routes off the route tree currently. I like him, but I like him at 43, certainly not at 12.

I would love to see Buffalo take a 1st round flop 2 years in a row!!!

The stress on D Thomas at 12 could be a recipe for problems since he's FAR from polished. He's a lump of coal right now with a huge upside, but that doesn't mean he'll be ready to contribute significantly next season. Expectations would be much more suitable for him as a 2nd rounder.

As much as I agree with everybody that wideout is a big need for us I do not believe the Dolphins will draft one in the 1st round unless they trade down. Its not that I subscribe to the "Parcells doesn't draft receivers in the 1st round" theory its just that there are too many talented prospects who are sure to be there at #43. The more I think about it the more I am convinced we will draft Eric Berry, Earl Thomas, Dan Williams, or Jason Pierre-Paul.
