We've got a great chance to win at least a wild card spot this year. Only division team we should be worried about are the Phillies. Can't wait!

If we reach the Wild Card spot, I'll stop watching them. Not because I dislike them (hard to do that when you're a fan, lol), but because we all know what would happen (Championship).

Seriously, I don't think anyone else has 100% win rate from the Wild Card Spot, on.

A division championship would be nice, for once. Won't happen, but it would be nice.

Anyone heard news about Mike Stanton? Is he going to start any games this season?

He should be starting in Double A.

No one should expect Stanton or Dominguez this year. Logan Morrisson is the only top prospect you should expect to see.

Okay, let's give this thread a little kick in the butt.

First, stadium update: Samson says the organization expects to be awarded the 2015 All-Star Game, but then again, the organization also expects fans to turn out while we have the lowest payroll in the game, so... :shifty:

Also, the new stadium is ~20% completed.

Next up: Cameron Maybin is your new #2 hitter.

Next: we're adding a lot of bullpen guys in the minors. But more importantly, we're trying to get Kevin Gregg back. (What?)

Lastly, speaking of pitchers, only two of them are guaranteed starting gigs in 2010: Josh Johnson and Ricky Nolasco. The rest need to earn it, apparently.

Kick delivered. Discuss amongst yourselves, gentlemen.

Kevin Gregg isn't on our radar. He signed with Toronto.

I'm not a big baseball fan, but I see threads for the red sox, yankees, mets and braves. I guess there really are no Marlins fans in Florida??? haha, anyway, I hope they win that division since they always seem to be the underdog and always seem to come up every few years.

Wait...then that means the baseball field will be ruining the Dolphins field longer? So is that the reason people don't like them? Or is it the heat? or the fact that they win, then disband their team? I heard they've been spending money though on players, anticipating the new stadium. Will that stadium actually help them?

By the way is this the last season they'll be in Dolphin stadium, or 2011?

there are plenty of marlins fans. never understood the hate for the baseball field....if anything you'd think we'd be used to it by now and make it an advantage eh? also yes as of now the marlins stadium is due to open in 2012....so '11 should be the last season.

Didn't the Marlins do well the past few seasons? I say they take the next step and make the playoffs. I like the Yankees, but I get sick of all the teams at the top who just spend more and more money, so I enjoy when the little teams come up and shock people. Go Marlins.

The Marlins thread isn't on the first page, but it's there. There just aren't enough of us hanging around the forums to keep it going... which is odd, considering that guys like Sec126 are huge Fins and Heat fans, but then he roots for the Mets. Traitorous dog! :shifty:

The Marlins have been pretty tumultuous, but the general sportswriter meme--that no one goes to the games, therefore no one cares--is false. The Marlins do pretty well in TV ratings, which indicates that there is indeed a fanbase. You can load up footage of the 2003 playoff games and see for yourself.

Miami's a strange sports town. You'll get reliable turnout for Dolphins games, but the Heat and Marlins don't sell out until the playoffs roll around.

2011. Originally the Marlins' lease expired after the 2010 (this coming) season, but it was extended one year due to delays in getting their ballpark construction started.

In terms of wins per dollar spent, yes, the Marlins are doing very well. They're the ultimate bang for the buck team right now. Thanks to some external intervention, Loria is finally spending a little bit of money--Hanley Ramirez and Josh Johnson are happy, for example. The payroll is still small, but the situation is improving.

I am a Marlins fan but I just don't like baseball even close to the same level as football and basketball. Fourth after soccer.

But again, Go Marlins... MVP Hanley? He can.

True. It would be nice to win the division though.

I don't think it's out of the question, mostly because I dont see anyone running away with it.

I'm not sure if the Phillies will run away with the division but I think they're clearly the best team in the division and probably the NL. I like the Braves to win the wild card but I wouldn't be shocked if the Marlins somehow found a way into that spot.

Phillies will do their usual "not play up to our potential" routine early on IMO. Or go through some very hot and very cold streaks keeping the other teams in and out of the race.

    Just my opinion.

It's opening day and this thread is at the bottom of the second page? I say thee nay!

Bottom of the 6th in Noo Yawk, our beloved Marlins are down 2-1. Looks like Josh Johnson is going to get pulled. Going 6 innings on opening day is pretty good, IMO.

Edit: And the Mets promptly go up 3-1. Damn.

Son of Edit: our defense collapses and the Mets go up 4-1.

Cousin of Son of Edit: 5-1. And here comes Fredi.

I couldn't bring myself to explore the Edit genealogy any further. Talk about beating yourself, it's tough to overcome a 1 run deficit in baseball, let alone a 5 run deficit.
