Summary of Rounds 1 & 2: If somebody came to you, and offered you Brandon Marshall, swapped 2nd rounders so that you move up 4 spots in that round

For: Next Years 2nd Rounder and Moving Down in this years 1st round, Wouldn't you take it??

I sure as hell would, great draft IMO by the Dolphins. Only slip up was that we came up 2 picks short of Morgan Burnett in round 3 (which J. Ireland admitted to according to sun-sentinel). But we recovered and got Rashard Jones

    Overal Grade: A-

I had scouted 6 of the 8 players. I really like Odrick, Misi, Edds and McCoy. I'm okay with Jerry and Jones. I'm not familiar with Carroll and Spitler beyond what I've read about them.

Overall, I gave us a "B". Most of the picks are at least good and there are some very good players. I thought we missed out on the opportunity to bring in some very good players at FS and TE though. IMO those positions and those players could have provided greater impact for our team.

Jeff Ireland projects A.J. Edds to be our 3rd down MLB on our nickle. I'm hoping he ends up completely replacing Crowder.

I can't grade it, and for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is I simply don't have the credentials to do so. But, from the standpoint that they put as much emphasis on the defense, especially LB's (which is what I think most of us hoped they would do), then I'm pretty happy with the way it went down. Be interesting to see what FA's they bring in, and I think there will be plenty of competition in TC. All in all, I think the state of the franchise is in MUCH better shape than it was just a year ago.

I think is was an overall good draft, I'll give it a B. Now we will see how they mine the UDFA's. Maybe they will be able to find a couple of more players from there.

I know we're all excited after the draft, but it's silly to realistically grade the draft. Minimally, wait until week 1 to see which one of these picks is actually getting playing time. Realistically wait until 2 years from now.

Did you like the position of the players they took?
    Did you like the trades?
Do you think they should have drafted other positions of need?

Grade the draft now, grade the players in 3 years :hi5:

    Well away from here
The big thing is to think about which picks won't make it. Most times the NFL hits at about a 40% clip......so will be a contributor and who will not maybe the better question.

I think that is a pretty fair statement.

I will say I like the fact that we drafted so many LB's. We really needed an overhaul at that position. We lost Adayle, Porter, Taylor. Crowder and the backups didn't seem to play overly well. So to get a bunch of new blood in here at least gives me hope. If you run a 3-4 you have to have quality LB's. So I am pleased in that regard.

1st 2 days I give the draft an A. They werent the positions I necessarily would have addressed with our first three picks but Odrick and Jerry will have huge impacts. I didnt get a chance to see Utah this year so I cant comment about Misi but he seems like he might be a young Junior Seau so I'm guardedly optimistic. Ozzie Newsome wasted no time picking Sergio Kindle so time will tell who was right. Figure the 3-4 linebacker guru teams all grabbed their OLB in the 2nd round

    Dolphins - Misi
    Ravens - Kindle
    Steelers - Worilds
    Patriots - Cunningham

We'll see who made the right picks and who made the wrong ones

the third day for me was a D. I'll trust the FO sees some things in these guys that they can project and improve upon but the only guy I'm really expecting anything from is hopefully McCoy and I have never seen him play so for me the best pick of the third day was a guy I hadnt seen because the guys that we picked that I had seen didnt really impress me. Schemewise maybe they have some role for Edds other than nickel backer because he gets engulfed by blockers. Maybe they see a way to keep him clear or think they can improve his shedding. If they can protect him or improve his ability to disengage then he could become a good pick.

Word has it Kindle may require micro-fracture surgery on his knee which may end his rookie season before it starts. When people complain about draft picks the one thing they are not considering (and one thing they are not privy to) is the medical grade.

    4(119) - A.J. Edds ILB
    5(145) - Nolan Carroll CB

    2/9 Offensive Selections
    7/9 Defensive Selections

Offensively they added another big powerful body to the offensive line. The front office will continue to add young players to the offensive and defensive lines on a yearly basis. It keeps the core young, and competitive. Jerry is a versatile player, which makes him a good match with this offense. Adding Marshall comes at the cost of next years second too, but is well worth it. This changes the way opposing defenses must play us. He offers big play ability and commands attention in the secondary. The 2009 Dolphins ran the ball successfully against 8 and 9 man fronts. The 2010 Dolphins will face 7 man fronts. Ricky and Ronnie are drooling at the possibilities. Good use of picks offensively, although I would have liked to see a tight end.

Defensively they did exactly what they needed to do. Spending 7 of 9 picks on defense is smart. They also added a LB from the Chargers in the process. So that's 8 defensive additions. Free safety wasn't addressed as highly as I would have liked; but Jones is a decent prospect, and this could point to Sharper signing a one year deal in Miami soon. The Odrick/Starks move was unexpected, but I'm willing to see how it works with Soliai in the mix. We are sure to have a defensive line that opposing teams will not look forward to facing. At linebacker, we have completely overhauled this group. All of the sudden we have 5 more linebackers in the mix, and the bottom feeders in previous LB corp are suddenly on the bubble.

Overall, we added tons of fresh young talent to inject into the defense, and we added a dynamic WR on offense. we got exactly what we needed. The competition at LB will produce 2 new starters, and they will be good.

I give them an A. I can live with Fasano for another year I guess.

Dont forget about Dobbins (6th?) and Thigpen (5th) as picks from this draft that acquired talent just like Marshall.

Even if say Misi doesn't pan out but 2 of the other 3 do - will anybody really give it a second thought? Drafting for volume has historically proven to be the most effective way of addressing a position.

I dont think Misi will bust. I havent seen Utah this year so I cant grade the pick but he better be as good or better than the 3 other guys drafted in the 2nd. Draft grades arent based simply on who you draft but also on who you passed on

I try not to get into the whole draft grade thing - we don't know if our picks or the players we passed on are any good. A friend of mine who follows the 49ers told me fans complained about Walsh trading down all the way out of the first round in 1986. That draft brought six starters, the core for two more Superbowls and graded as the second best draft class in history. We simply don't know what we have here.

What are the other teams going to do about those two and the other two who will be spelling them? All you need is four yards a carry, and the Trifecta keeps bringing in road graders to play on the line. Meantime, they have to worry about Marshall and the other three good-hands guys, and Henne can chuck the rock and move around.

So what to do? Score more than we do. The Saints. The Colts. Chunk plays. Long bombs. No pass rush. Can't cover and can't stop the run. THAT is why our draft looks the way it does -- the Achilles' heel is the defense. Hopefully, no more.

Given how the real need was addressed, it has to be at least a B+.

Not too familiar with any of these guys and would have liked to see a tight end taken somewhere, but I trust our FO. A b is my grade, but as someone already mentioned who we know nothing at this juncture.

once again i'm not complaining. If I dont see this draft as an A that doesnt mean I'm suddenly complaining about it. I love the Jerry pick. Him and Long side by side will be a terror for years to come. Odrick is a very good pick. Misi could be very good. Like I said the first two days were solid reliable picks. The third day is going to be the make or break day for the draft three years out. We passed on a ton of solid prospects for more boom or bust types. Edds is phenomenal in pass coverage but cant shed blockers. Can we teach him? Jones is a psycho hitter but plays so loose that he gives up huge plays on a regular basis. Can we get him to play within himself and play intelligently? Carroll is a phenomenal raw physical talent but suffers from Yatil Green syndrome and doesnt have the best instincts. Can he stay healthy and can we teach him to play smarter? McCoy seems like a nice small school prospect but once again another project. Spitler?

Now you can say all players have flaws but the ones we picked had some major major flaws coupled with some major positives but it would have been nice to draft a player or two on day three who wasnt such a complete boom or bust type. Thats not complaining thats just making an observation. I have enough faith in this FO that one or two of these guys is going to develop the way they envision and be a very nice player. But they could have maybe lessened the risks and grabbed a couple of guys with lower ceilings but higher floors

Overall, it was a very good draft. I gave it a 'B'.

    - The trade down in the first was exactly what I wanted.
    - Odrick was tremendous value... as was Rashad Jones.
    - They addressed the LB'ing corps in a big way, which was the most pressing area of need, IMHO.
    - Getting Brandon Marshall. Woot.
    - I really, really like the type of players we're drafting. Seriously... that's HUGE.
    - I am extremely intrigued by Chris McCoy. I'll be watching him close in camp.

    - If we would have addressed FS earlier, and gotten a more 'pure' pass-rusher at WOLB... I would have given the draft an 'A'.

takes time to sort out a draft
    most rookies aren't starters
    & even if they start
they have a 2/3 yr learning curve
    the real question is two-fold:
    1) did it look good/feel good ?
    2) do you believe in Bill Parcells ?

I simply answer yes to one & two.
it all looks good to me
& I think there is still a twist or two
to this potential roster going into 2010
look to a veteran FS & TE emerging
    any chance of Martin returning?
