Yesterday I was rear ended by an 18wheeler, which pushed me into the car in front of me. I am having increased back pain and numbness in my legs. Should I save money and try to broker a deal with the insurance company on my own, or should I retain a lawyer to fight for me and give him a cut of the settlement?

If you are going to seek medical attention and try to get the insurance to pay for it I would get my insurance company involved and a lawyer. Better to be safe then sorry is what I say. Glad you are ok man. On another note stop picking fights with semi trucks........

An insurance company's sole job is to collect as much money as they can while paying out as little as possible. Get a lawyer, that's why they exist.

Insurance people are trying to save money for the company they work for. Get a lawyer. Hope you're doing good.

All depends on the severity of your injuries. You didnt indicate when it happened, but if your pain has been increasing for a bit now (say a week or longer), i would at least talk to a lawyer , and decide if you need to retain one. Its better to protect yourself just in case, especially with you hitting the guy in from of you (in not sure of FL legal laws, some state laws , you would be responsible for their damages, even though you were pushed into them)

Good luck buddy, and keep us posted

My wife works for Attorney's firm here in Atlanta that represents only the insurance companies. It's all about what you will settle for. only 8% of all cases actually go to court and of them the insurance company usually prevails because your amount is usually lower then what you could negotiate.

Get a Lawyer. I can not stress this enough. The other side will eat you alive without one. They won't return your calls they will pretty much ignore you. The contacting of them by an attorney gives the illusion of maybe you might sue them. Make sure you document everything. who you talk to, what they say, everything. Lawyers hate people like that. Also don't be surprised when they offer you 500 dollars to go away either. Your going to have to document your claims. If you are having pain....see a doctor right away. Good luck my friend.
