Due out tomorrow, Sunday the 11th. Reviews are coming in and they're positive as hell. Eurogamer: 9/10. "But these are minor niggles in a creation that enjoys a delightful, broad-sweep vision peppered with exquisite detail. Not only the bravest and best of its series, but also a multiplayer adventure game that betters anything yet seen on the DS, Dragon Quest IX takes its place at the pinnacle of orthodox JRPG gaming." 1Up: A. "There's certainly room for improvement, no question about it. DQIX would be even better with real online play, a stronger story, or a world with the same sense of scope and grandeur as DQVIII's. But these are more nitpicks than genuine flaws. DQIX is a subtly sophisticated game, and while it doesn't quite revolutionize RPGs it definitely pushes them forward. Maybe Dragon Quest's popularity in the west will never match its success overseas, but at least those who give this chapter a chance can enjoy one of the deepest, most engrossing portable RPGs ever." You guys want to wring 400 hours out of a single game? Pick this up. Who am I kidding, no one cares.
heh Only system I have is PS3, cool game name though. My first RPG was Dragon Warrior that I played and beat when I was five, been a nerd ever since.
What deal is that? Same here. I'd wake up at 5 AM on school days and make as much progress as possible before having to leave. Memories! Well worth picking up a used DS for not just Dragon Quest IX, but IV, V, and the future VI as well.
Not bad at all. Still, I'll probably just walk into a Gamestop tomorrow and pick it up. And then I'll disappear from the boards for about 400 hours.
I regret getting a psp over the ds. I ended up giving to my friends daughther. I'm tempted to get a used ds to play DQ
I got it last night too. Didnt really have alot of time to play it, but the hour or so that I did put in gave me a decent understanding of the Celestials and what they do. Pretty cool idea.
I found Best Buy to have the better deal. Buy one at full price & the second game at 50% off. I did it today. Couldn't find any used DSi XL in my area so I decided to go brand new. Went to best buy to buy the DSi XL because of the bigger screen & longer battery life. I got DQ9 & Legend of Zelda & a new system for $252.
Congrats. Don't forget to pick up DQ4 and 5 as well. 4 is slightly less enjoyable than it could have been because they removed the party chat feature in the translation, but 5 is fully authentic and still has one of the best stories in video gaming. DQ9 really reminds me of a fusion of DQ3 and DQ7.
thanks, will do after I finish DQ9. I have been hooked on it & been procrastinating in packing due it. Brings back memories when I was a kid.
I need a little advice on picking which weapon & skills for the classes I have. I'm trying to plan ahead & hope I don't end up wasting skill points necessary. Hero = Sword Fighter = Spear Priest = Staff Mage = Dagger or Wand? (I'm thinking wand because some of them can do range dmg) MP regen via wand is very weak at my level so hence the question on which weapon to use. Should I use skill points on class skills like litheness (hero), courage (fighter), etc or should I just spend on weapon to max out ASAP? thanks,
If you hit Confirm without allocating skill points you can keep them in reserve. I would say keeping your skill points in reserve until later is the best bet, though I'd spend 16 points on the Martial Artist's Focus path, because Psyche Up becomes a very good way to beat bosses. Get Tension to 50, attack. The Hero's Egg On ability, part of the Minstrel class, can help the process along. Basically, if you don't know, don't spend the skill points.
Once you clear the Brigadoom arc, you can go back to Erinn's inn. There'll be a blonde female NPC behind the counter. She connects you to DQVC. You can download a shop list once per day. Also, talk to Erinn and she'll give you the alchemy pot.
