Somebody's been workin hard to stop looking like Webster with a football in his hand.

Gotta admire his dedication and willingness to work hard, overcome obstacles. I've always admired that about him.

Now if he could just be able to hit the broad side of a barn, or get the ball to the sidelines without it dying in the air...

Originally my hatred of the pick revolved around:

    A) I don't think he has the right build for the Wildcat,
    B) He's such a project as a real passer it would take years to polish him up,
    C) The "successful" branch of his end game probably caps out as a valid backup QB.

So with that in mind I make fun of him constantly. But it would at least be a nice surprise for him to prove postulate A incorrect.

I tried hard to get on board with the pick, saw him as the next evolution of the WildCat, but then I saw him play and lost all real belief in the young man.

His heart and attitude have never been in doubt to me, especially after he was the only Dolphin player to go out of his way to shake hands with all the military men & women dressed in uniform that day after the game in New England.

I would sure love to see him turn into something for us and make that not a wasted pick. He still has much to show the world, and until I see it ON THE FIELD IN A GAME, I am not a believer.

    Wow...

Also find it interesting that Pennington is talking to Henne while David Lee (i think that's him) is talking to Thigpen and White. Who is coaching whom? Sure it's just a picture, but lets not underestimate how important CP could be to this team this year from a sideline/coaching perspective

That's not actually all that abnormal. The starter and his primary backup are usually kind of tight. They both prepare like starters, and they both try and see the same thing as one another because they want there to be no interruption if the backup ever needs to get in there. I dunno, I just always have seen the starter and primary backup be like a duo, and the other guys are just trying to learn and develop.

Gotta say that's impressive for one off season. I hope it reflects well in his play.

Must have patience with this kind of player, especially considering the offense we are trying to evolve...The knee jerkers on this particular player were out of control, I swear some just wanted to call him a bust just because he doesn't have the skillset of a proset qb {which most of us projected in the first place, but yet were still excited} all while having complete disregard to what it is were trying to achieve here..

We can have all the patience we want he's still probably never going to be anything more than a backup, and even that still doesn't mean the WildPat will actually work.

Thickness through the Neck and shoulders is impressive...Arms generally develop quickly and fairly easily but neck and shoulders shows hes doing some HEAVY lifting...good to see will probably help protect him from those kill shots like the one from last year that looked like it ACTUALLY killed him.

That was my main concern with White. I understood and liked the idea and their intentions, but I just thought he was too frail to take the pounding of the NFL and too frail to break tackles in the NFL.

He's got such a small window to capitalize on. I hope they give him a lot of pass plays in preseason. Whether or not they put him in the Patpackage in preseason is debatable.

You know, I never actually compiled the data on the WildPat until now.

    The Good News
The WildPat actually produced three touchdowns and a two-point conversion, without turning the ball over once in 52 tries.

    The Bad News
The WildPat produced a paltry 2.88 yards per play. That's abysmal. Ronnie Brown was most productive with 5.0 yards per carry. Pat White got about 3.09 yards per carry, but if you count his incompletions, he averaged 2.54 yards per play when his number was called. Ricky Williams did no better at 2.53 yards per carry.

That would make sense if Pennington was the primary backup but he was named the third string QB already. I see Lee coaching up the other two. One of which will become Henne's backup. My money is on Thigpen.

For now, but if you think when Chad Pennington is healthy, that if Henne were to go down injured for a couple of games, Pennington would not be the man that takes over, I got some real estate to sell you.

Would depend on whether he is healthy or not and right now we don't know that. Right? His arm just might be a ghost and the last thing I want to see in there is a QB who can't throw the football. I still believe he was brought back to teach but I see your point if he can go they would have more faith in him obviously. That is still a big if IMO.

Honestly I think if you have to rely on Pennington at anytime during the season that is a huge step backwards.

Agreed on both parts, but I think this hybrid offense has a place for an athlete, that has an arm, I see the skillset fitting in the offense moreso than projecting whether or not he's gonna turn into a proset QB.

Pat white eventually will have to Learn Ronnie Brown's role if we have longterm plans for this offense, and he wants a career...I know you don't think he has the build to run inside, but "lookit dem muscles".

The skillset combined with the imagination of this offense is why I want to be patient.

I'd really like it if the 'Phins would make Pennington a "Corleone" type of offer to be the QB coach in waiting... when he decides to hang up the cleats. I know he wants to coach high school, and I understand. Teaching high school was one of the great times of my life - and you get to touch young people's lives - if they know you like them just as they are.

But, I think that the Dolphins could really use his experience and intelligence helping their still young quarterbacks.

If Henne goes down for any real length of time and we want a shot at the playoffs we better pray Chad P is healthy.

First thing I noticed, his calves have gotten much larger.

I think if nothing else, White should have more athletic explosion ability this year with the added strength and size to his lower body.

The other thing I noticed, he is the only "Qb" to look like he hits the weight pile.

Nah, I wanted RGM for my wallpaper, but chose Pat White juking a Jest OLB (Thomas I think) on MNF and he's sporting the Orange Jersey.

THAT is how I can tell how much larger his calves have grown, they look about 15% larger, and calves play a huge role in generating athletic explosion, along with Quads.

I hated the pick, still do. But I like the kid though, he has alot of heart. Still, IMO time it would take to turn Pat into a decent quarterback is better spent trying to turn Chad Henne into a great one.

Chad Pennington in the mind of Chad Henne, all training camp long, another one, but this time, being trained for the starter role..What a gift..

The circumstances that Henne finds himself in since he got in the league has been perfect, I can't think of a young QB being groomed in a better situation.. combined with that right arm, shooot...This guy is gonna break out.

yup, he's got a good 10 lbs on him, another player that looks symetrically balanced to me, his weight distributes nicely. I wanna see him in 2 more years with this kind of training. .now if Henning and Lee would use him like I want, I'd be happy.

His helmet still looks big for his body..lol

Thanks for calculating that. I'd imagine those number would look a lot better if Pat had hit Ginn deep on his first pass. Big plays like are what was missing from making the package effective last year in my opinion. Without those big plays the other team is able to stack the box, keeping the YPC down. Hopefully White improves as a passer and a runner, and that formation can become what it was intended. This is a good step.
