With a legit passing game and a superstar in Marshall at our disposal: will we need the wildcat anymore? We all know it was born out of necessity when we had no offense. Do we keep it to make other teams still prepare for it? Will Marshall (ex-HS QB) throw a pass out of it? I ask here because I know you guys have seen all the news from camp and I haven't had time to catch it all.
I know I've read reports that we've been practicing it, so I have to believe its going to be a part of our offense. Sure it was born when we were really inept on offense, but its become a staple of our offense as well, it works, teams have trouble stopping it, there opportunities from it that still remain untapped IMO with some of the players we have on this team. I don't think we've seen the end of it at all IMO, maybe not as much, but its going to be there.
Didn't know Marshall was a QB in high school. Gives us yet another option out of that formation. Hopefully we take advantage of it. I think Marshall really improves the wildcat regardless because of his blocking ability and his huge frame giving a big target to Ronnie or White when we do pass out of it. Should make the pass more threatening.
IMO the Wildcat came from needing playmakers on the field. We Used wild formations and a unbalanced line. Second yr we got rid of the unbalanced line and made it into a power running formation. Third yr - I CANT WAIT
The WC was manufactured on a plane ride home from the desert lack of running the football after game two in '08

It Gives the other team's defense extra time thinking about the formation in their practices, and they have to worry about both their base defense also going against us. I love it.
When your most talented player loves executing it, and when the formation itself requires a specific skillset that your most talented player happens to have...You use it... There is nothing better than watching the beautiful chaos transpire all around, while #23 survey's it with his eyes..... while the ball is in midflight. I think we'll see it as much as in the past, and I believe we will see Ronnie throw the ball twice as much as he has in the past... He's getting better with his mechanic's, which will make him even more lethal out of the formation.. Hybrid offense....Its who we are...
We will see it until defenses show they can stop it on a regular basis. So it will be around for awhile.
I think it'll be at most 10% of our offense, pretty much like last year. I think we'll still bring it in as a power formation and use it on three or four consecutive plays in the middle of a drive every fourth game or so. Off-topic: I'm not sure we can still say Brown is our most talented player. Not counting Jake Long since he's not a skill position player, you still have Marshall. I think I would rate Brown as a top 5 running back talent-wise (not considering injuries) and Marshall as a top 3 WR (Andre Johnson, Fitzgerald, Marshall, Moss, Megatron).
VD is an incredible athlete as well, but I won't put him in the most talented category until he's arguably a top 5 at his position league wide. Right now he's in the same group as a Cameron Wake, a freakish athlete even among elite athletes who hasn't proven he has the football talent to be listed among the best, yet.
