I really hate it. As I've stated before he's a personal friend of mine, I played against him in high school and I've been rooting for him all this time. It's really a shame he never got a real chance to show what he can do.

Though he hasn't really done anything to earn a roster spot based on what we've been able to see, I was always a big fan of his. Didn't like the draft choice for this football team, but loved Pat White the player in college. I hope he catches on elsewhere, whether it's in the NFL or CFL. He's a good high character guy from what I understand following him in college, and I just want to see him fit in somewhere and be successful.

I agree that it looks like his short time here is up.... Good luck, Pat White! Wish him nothing but the best.

Agreed I wish him luck too, but just let the man go in hopes he can catch on somewhere else......keeping him on without playing time is stupid IMO...

His strange absence at the beginning of training camp was a forewarning that something was awry .

It looked liked he was thinking of going AWOL .That would lead you to believe that he lacks confidence in himself .

Remindful of John Beck's situation in some ways.

Bill really missed that pick. It was a high risk pick that high in the draft. Not having anything to show for that, and most likely nothing to show for the 3rd round as well could bite the team as the build for the future, but Miami has been fortunate with undrafted free agents.
Drafting is better in Miami, but far from consistent enough to be thought in line with the Pittsburghs and New Englands.

Well, he was set up to fail from the get go last year. He was put in in situations where the play he was running was a terrible play call. And they expect him to come in for one play a game, establishing no rhythm, no timing with the WRs throughout the game, no first hand knowledge of how the secondary is playing, and heave a 60 yard TD pass. It was rediculous the situations they put him in last year. And it's just insulting now to not even give him a look in pre-season.

I'm not a fan of how they have handled White at all. They draft him to be a Wildcat weapon, then practice him like a pro set QB and insist that that's what they want. I'm still not convinced that this is, in fact, the end, but if it is, the whole situation was handled very poorly.

No offense to you or him but I never thought he was right as a QB in this league.

Now in the CFL I think he can blow up like Flutie did.

Overall though I think he CAN be good in the NFL but he needs to be developed. Just like it took awhile in Canada for Flutie to come back to the NFL and flourish, I think White can come back one day and do very, very well.

This organization drafted him way to high and handled this really bad. If they drafted him that high then he deserved to be developed like a guy drafted that high. They treated him like an undrafted rookie, it's crazy.

I wish him the best of luck where ever he ends up because although right now I think he is way behind, should he be developed right, he can become a force later on. Of course that also depends on HIM and how bad he wants to work at it.

    It wasn't handled poorly.
You guys are obviously trying to insinuate that White has shown anything to earn more chances on the field.
He hasn't, it was simply a horrid pick.

You don't pick a gimmick player so high to begin with first off.
Secondly, White has shown nothing to demand more chances.

Just another horrid draft decision in a long line this franchise has made over the last 10 years. Hopefully this is the last of them.

Pat could very well get another chance somewhere else, looking back at the timing of the pick, he could have been an insurance if Henne wasn't working out as desired.

Those types of QB's in the NFL are hard to find a team willing to give them enough chances in ideal conditions to succeed. This league is built around pocket passers.

I'm won't be suprised to see him cut, but I also think Miami, after Henne showed he can be a starting NFL qb it became an un-ideal situation for Pat.

I think on another team in a better situation to fit his skill set he could find success. I just have no way to believe that will ever happen here. It will have to be somewhere else.

I'm referring to how they have tried to develop him. Insisting he's a pro set quarterback, changing his throwing motion, etc. Why draft a mobile quarterback and try to turn him into a pocket passer? I think there's plenty of ways to make White successful, we just haven't seen them yet.

And to me if someone earns time in the regular season in the most intense position in the game during the most intense moments of the game throughout the entire year, they earn the right to at least play in a preseason game.......

Seems strange that they have never tried him out at another position if he isn't showing them anything at the Qb position. I liked him a lot in college and was someone that has defended the pick but at this point if he can't even play against teams 3rd string players he is wasting a roster spot, if you aren't going to play him at another position or special teams it doesn't make any sense to keep him around as a 4th Qb. Well we will see what they have in store, maybe he will play in the last 2 preseason games.

Well your question about why you would draft a QB so high and then try to turn him into a COMPLETE QB tells all you need about why this draft pick was so wrong. You don't pick what is in essence a wishbone QB with accuracy issues in the 2nd round of the NFL draft. It was a simple case of terrible scouting and poor decision making.

Secondly, when did Pat White earn time in the regular season?
He was forced into situations as a rookie simply because the Dolphins were way too enamoured by the Wild Cat concept. Thats it. As with most players, his speed became somewhat neutralized and his weakness as a true QB became more exposed. That is why you aren't seeing any investment being put into him.

Oh I know we'll miss on players in the future, it happens.

I just hope we don't make such drastic reaches on projects at such a high position ever again. It was a very Wannyesque pick.

First of all, you can't assume that he didn't earn playing time last year and also assume that he hasn't earned it this year. If they aren't playing him in the preseason now because they think he hasn't earned it, they most definitely would not have played him in the regular season if they didn't think he hadn't earned it. Those assumptions are mutually exclusive in my opinion. I'm not arguing that the pick was questionable even though I liked it more than most, just that it appears that the situation has been handled poorly after the pick was made. It was as if they had all these great ideas to utilize White and then he got here and they just forgot who the player they drafted was.

i think they just fell in love with the wildcat and felt if they could get a running qb who could throw out of it they would be able to elevate that scheme to another level. seems like it didnt work out. i think the only gripe is it was a 2nd rounder but if y0ou look at the 2nd round there were more than a few players who havent done anything yet

I understand hes your friend and I bet he is a great person. But he has had a chance. How many practice reports have we heard that "PW sucked again today"...more than I can count. He is as ready to be an NFL QB as I am to be a tri-athlete. The guy is in way over his head.

Its not his fault he picked three rounds above where he should have been. His game doesn't translate to the NFL. The NFL is littered with great college QBs who cannot play in this league. Its not for everyone. PW has been given more than a chance, and its now time to cut the investment, admit that it was an abysmal failure and move one.

Throwing good money after bad isn't smart. Lets not waste another rep on a guy who cannot play in the NFL.

I think its fair to be critical with the FO on these picks..merling as well. Merling was the #32 pick in the draft and never played like a high draft pick. The Pat Picks, White and Turner, were disasterous. Imagine, on this team with so many holes, if we had drafted one good player and one solid contributor with those picks? We might be way better off.

Luckily, we have hit on some UDFAs, signed Dansby and we made a good trade for Brandon Marshall. I am still hoping for good things from Odrick and Misi. If they both contribute solidly, it will take the sting out of the failures of the first two drafts.

Maybe White can spend a year or two developing in the UFL? Great chance for him to play with pros, but at a lower level than the NFL. It seems like he needs to regain his confidence as I don't believe all the talent he showed in college just went way.

It hurts they wasted a high second rounder on him, but the draft is never a sure thing. The current Dolphin team is still much better than the team we endured back in 07, so some perspective is in order.

I know this is an assumption but what I don't like more than anything is that Pat White seemed to not be willing to even try being a wide receiver when he has failed miserably at qb. If he really loved football and wasn't stubborn than he would realize his speed and size will not and does not translate as a NFL qb.

As for people saying he deserved to be given a chance in pre-season, well I disagree. I have read all of the practice reports and when he can't complete passes on 11 on 11 drills in practice than he shouldn't be in a pre-season game where there are players fighting to make this squad and for that matter trying out for other NFL teams.

In hindsight taking White 44th overall was a gamble, but it was a gamble off of his potential and the fact that they had good reason to think another team would have him drafted before they got to him. The whole mobile QB wildcat formation was a great idea and it just didnt pan out. IMO yeh maybe he isnt a NFL QB but I still think it was a smart pick based on intention. IF he would have got the system down and been able to adapt to the NFL the wildcat would have been the best offensive weapon we had for yrs to come. Their have been worse draft blunders IMO.

i would really like to know why this kid is so hung up on being a qb only.i think henning could find so many ways to to use white with some degree of success because the guy does have talent.this team doesn't need a "me" player and thats exactly whites stance from a position standpoint.it is really ashame that he isnt given a chance this year in a meaningless pre-season game.
lots of guys don't have great practices..look at jason allen, the guy really showed nothing that suggest he would be worthy of how high we picked him in practices those first 2 yrs but we kept plugging him into different places till he finally found his niche at st gunner.
not only was it a wasted picked but it has also been wasted time at reps in practice.why hold onto him so long if your not even going to play him in pre-season?because we are trying to get something in return for him?no team is going to look at the tampa-bay game and say "that dude kneels like a mofo, lets offer a 3rd for him".cut him already and move on.

Yeh..it was just a bad pick. I love Pat White as a player..being a huge Neers fan. But even though I loved him in Old Gold and Blue...I knew he wasnt cut to be a NFL qb. I think the coaches wanted to develop him as QB...he just didnt work out. Would have loved to see if he could have done something at WR.. see what he coul have done at KR...but he probably would not have beat out Bess or Camarillo. CFL is probably the best bet for him, and thats fine he can make a damn fine living doing that

Let me preface this by saying Pat White has class after seeing what he did last year to the group of armed forces
but to say he never got a real chance to show what he could do in my opinion is not true.

Do you honestly think our front office and coaches would draft a player in the second round and not give that player a chance to make this team...they see him day in day out unlike you and I.THEY SEE THE GOOD AND BAD,THEY EVALUATE PLAYERS AND THE PLAYERS WHO CAN HELP US WIN...PLAY

I'm sure there are many reasons why he isn't playing
and many reasons why the front office has lost confidence in his play but Not giving him a chance is not one of them...YOU EARN YOUR PLAYING TIME HERE IN MIAMI

Pat White is quite possibly the worst second round pick of all time. To think that Miami could have had a starter at SSLB or at LG with that pick, and they ended up with Pat White.

FINALLY - someone feels the way I do on this subject. Drafting him was a joke and was like an impulse buy at a hamburger joint. Pat White is a nice kid, who is trying like hell, but is not going to make it. I feel badly for him because he was put in a situation that was not fair to him. In reality he was probably a 5th round pick and probably could have gone un-drafted altogether. Meanwhile we ignored other positions of need by wasting a draft pick at number 2. Everyone makes mistakes - and this one belongs to the FO. With that said: the FO hasn't made many (if any) mistakes since.

I have a lot of respect for White personality wise, and from all of his college accolades.

However to say he didn't have a chance is really misrepresenting things. He has had 2 training camps to show off his throwing. Unfortunately his performances in training camp from all reports have been very lackluster, and he's been sailing balls.

There really isn't any point to put him into a Wildcat situation on the field when the defense knows he's not going to run it up the gut, and they don't have to be afraid of the pass. That is going to get him injured again, and no one wants to see that.

He is a top character kid, and I tjink almost all of us wish him nothing but the best...but, I also think that will take place in the CFL. He could be a really nice fit up there, and he would spend more time behind center.

I don't think he was ever going to be successful but have a lot of respect for the guy on a personal level.

That being said - I think the way the FO handled this entire situation is a bit frightening in terms of player development.

They drafted the kid and said he was going to be a QB. Not a gimmick.

Then they played him in the most high-profile situations possible during his rookie season in a role that was very much NOT a standard NFL QB.

Then they brought him back to camp and tried to prove he could be a prototypical QB and he failed miserably in practice.

Then they kept him on the roster - but refused to play him in any preseason games.

Assuming he is about to get cut - does this strike anyone else as a colossal waste of time?

If he is a WildCat QB (as you used him in the most high-pressure situations last year) - practice him as such and get him comfortable in that role while bringing him along slowly as a QB.

If you want him to be a standard QB - then get him experience in that role and let him play in preseason games to get a feel for the game.

If he is not good enough to play in preseason - then cut him. He is just a wasted roster spot that could be used for a KR or to bring another body in at an injury riddled position (CB, OL). If he can't get on the field in preseason then he shouldn't be on the field in practice.

I don't think he was ever going to succeed - but the FO didn't seem to ever have a concrete plan on what they wanted him to be / do. We've all had some questions in the past (Wake not playing over Porter, Ginn not in on KO) but this was one of the biggest head scratchers I've seen.
