Good, because tbh, we really haven't been tested very hard this preseason.

The Secondary still has as many question marks as it had going into the preseason and the Cowpokes Wr Corps and Te Witten should be a real test for them.

The next quote we see should go something like this....

Please note that this is my version of what I think Sparano should say and not a direct quote from him...

I watched a little of the cowgirls game last nite and they are having a very hard time at pass blocking. VERY HARD. Houston jumped on them early and often and sacked Romo on 2 of the first 3 plays, I think thats right. The next series dallas tried to run the ball to slow down the rush and were dropped for no gain, then back to the pass with another sack. That might not be EXACT, but it was the overall tone of what went on most of the game.
    They did not look good.
Houston, on the other hand, looked very good.

Good, the more of their first team players we play against, the better.

Disagree, but that is just my view, to me the Starters had not recovered from Sparano's Traning Camp, why beat them up further by playing them longer on Thursday?

The schedule makers did cut us a break, by playing on Thursday, the evaluations will be completed sooner, or they can take more time making a decision, and we will be the first team to be able to offer players up in trades, or attempt to make some trades as our roster will be set first.

Alright, the Cowboys Oline is officially at "swiss cheese" status, with Young and Colombo both o-u-t for Thursday Night's game if we cannot generate pressure from the base defense call me officially "concerned".

Totally disagree with Sparano having a training camp that would be different from any other teams. Most teams bust their butts to get ready and this team has not looked very good so far.

The Cowboys looked like crap last night. I thought Jerry Jone's face was going to fall off. I'm sure their first team will get a longer look.

Jets come to mind Ozzy, and Camp closed on Tuesday or Wednesday and we played that Friday right after the two a days ended, that is why I floated the idea out there.

To me, our guys just looked like they had no pop left in their legs especially the O and D lines.

Even Richie Incognito who is a great drive blocker had nothing on Friday and they were playing just 7 in the box and we could go nowhere on the ground.

Good for them, it will be a nice test for our bubble and back up players. I personally want this team rested. I am sick to death of seeing "camp legs" in the 3rd week of September like we have the last 2 years.

If this is the case, I'm not looking foward to the hard part to come.

I see quite a lot of teams that are jelling quite nicely, and this aint one. That is all. I'm not saying they will suck but simply pointing out that there was nothing good about the Falcons game. Nothing but Vontae maybe, and a 53 yd FG...

We'll see, if things are the way I "think" they are, whole units should recover at once as they have the same amount of recovery time.

Meaning the first drive in Dallas should feature the Oline driving the Dallas dline off the ball, the Dline should penetrate more etc.

Well, I saw a few more positives:

-ST gelled and I suspect it will gell further as the bubble guys are weeded off of the unit.

-Soliai continued his strong play, I have wonder if Sparano wasn't hyping what a great idea it was to move Starks to NT, if the job would be Soliai's?

-Nolan Carroll showed he is the Returner

-Marlon Moore demonstrated why Camarillo was traded.

BTW,anyone notice Lex Hilliard this preseason? He played very little that I noticed.

Pretty dumb of Dallas IMO...this is game #5 for them and Romo has taken some shots the last 2 weeks.

Maybe we can finish him off and end the "home team playing a Super Bowl in their own building" crap before it makes me want to vomit. Between that **** and the Jets hype I can't watch any NFL related TV programs.

Not on board with the Kickoff, and punt teams. I've noticed a lot of breakdowns on the edges, and that's a problem when going against a burner.

Moore, I like him a lot. Kind of torn between he, and Wallace though.

    I've always liked Solai

But individuals are not my points really. The units hardy looked like units in all three games so far. Although game 2 was much better for the offense and game one and part of two was good for the run defense.

My problems are mostly with the lines on both sides of the ball. They better get some pressure on defense somehow or this young secondary will be toast, and could lose what confidence they have....

What I noticed is the UDFA Wr's are trying to cover kickoffs and just can't, when they matched Sapp with the unit, things improved.

Big men who move that well are hard to find.

I cannot say either way as the mixing and matching was still happening, that makes it very hard to say who is playing well and who is doing poorly.

Did notice that our guys looked dead legged, even Cam Wake looked slow.

When that happens, when guys you know are explosive are not getting any jumps or pop out at you on screen, chances are good it is Two a Day legs and a TC hangover.

We'll know right quick on Thursday, their recovery cycle will be completed and they should appear noticiably Quicker/More Explosive/Powerful especially the Vets.

You cannot hide blowing people off of the LoS Deej..:D

4 days..and this farce ends, I'm psyched for the regular season to begin.

And I expect the Cowpokes Receiving Corps to try and thrash our Secondary, bring the pain, take shots down field.

Really wish to see what Smith and Clemons and Sapp are made of, we know what we have in Vontae and Bell.

They had Jason Allen on the outside for the first game and second. Not sure about the Falcons game, and the very first kickoff, he leaves the outside and heads towards the ball. As soon as he cut in, the return man just cut it out, and was nearly gone. Three times in a row, he went to that side. So that was our flyer from last year. Could he have been given the green light to roam? Maybe but you cannot do that on kickoffs or your kicker better be one tackling machine.

Were special teams better against the Falcons? Sure but nothing was GOOD about it except no Td's, and once nice hit by Sapp.

I just cannot buy into the dead leg theory. Not fully anyway. Could they have dead legs? Sure but they should be in really good shape at this point and a player like Vontae looked in mid season form, while others looked lathargic but mostly they looked LOST....

Odd, because I watched Julius Pruitt or Wallace absolutely blow a tackle that lead to a long return?

Possible I'm confusing the games as well though.

I did notice the Falcons, who have an excellent ST unit, allowed DBess to have a longer than normal punt return as well.

Which is what I love about the NFL Ozzy, out on the field things will go one way, or another.

And i'm sure they are in fine shape, it just takes time to recover and the legs to come back.

That team is gonna be motivated to play a game, Romo's fat *** and lazy offseason work is gonna catch up to him, but after their new orleans performance, that team feels pressure even in the preseason to perform...

Id like to see us be more physical, thats it, something that the falcons just dominated us in.... could care less about the score...Id give our starters a quarter and thats it..

Where the frig is all the howling players Pod...They better be savin it for Buffalo.

I wrote last year during preseason that I thought that I was seeing the players get tired and that I thought they had peaked at the wrong time, then they crapped the bed in atlanta..

I think Sparano is sacrificing some preseason stuff to focus in on week one...I really do....

I like us on the road in buffalo week 1...we really are gonna be a good road team this year, and you know I have my reasons why.

Shula would have strangled Robbie if he tried to have the early season home games away from the OB due to the heat.

Football also wasn't the year round thing it is now.

  30. Ozzy

    Ozzy Premium Member Luxury Box

Yep, Shula knew exactly what the South Florida heat was all about come game time.

Yes, football was year round with Shula. He always had his players in camps during the offseason. Now they have to abide by rules and can only attend so many mini camps, walk thrus and so on because of coaches like Shula. The players union had that as one MUST have rule change because coaches were killing players in the offseaons.

    True that.

For a long time most NFLers had other jobs to supplement their rather tiny NFL salaries.

I can clearly recall Duper looking bad in the preseason simply because his legs just had not accustomed themselves to the grind.

There is no year long grind anymore persay. The players are expected to join offseason conditioning and thats just voluntary work outs. Back then you come into camps out of shape in any way Shula had no mercy. Until his last few years when camps became a little easier due to the crying from players, and constant threats by the players union.

iam sure it was hard camp, this regimes style of camp combined with the heat and all, provides challenge's and some getting used to for the coaches..I think it was different so we'll see.

Hey man, you think the jets aren't wishin they had Douglas back with the loss of Pace...maybe we can get a draft pick for his ***...lol

You make a very good point and although I amy get some flack for my opinion on as to why the guys have no legs.

Sparano made a point in one of his PCs that he had to hold back a little on the guys, says he learned his lesson last year. He clearly found out, the price is paid whether its in Sept. or December. I went to camp in Davie for the first time this year. Did not miss a day unless it was taken indoors. I consider myself physically fit, not as good as the players but just the same, 6'1" 214 lbs.

Just sitting in the stands beat the living crap out of me. I watched each day when the players left the field after practice, short answer, they were washed man, thru the ringer and nada left in the tank. The Oline does not stop during camp, not often, they keep em working. I think what we are seeeing is some of the effects of practice ih high temperatures and high humidity. I do not want to hear about the past, this is present and this is what I see with the guys.

Add to that, what I noticed after rewatching the games and stopping them and clicking a few frames at a time is the entire Oline rythm is off, there is no rythm, Long included in the bunch. Its pretty clear, Berger and Grove snap the ball at a different pace, or rate. Now some may say hogwash, its not and its a very important piece of the Oline. As someone else said, switch QBs every other series and see what happens, fugly, its no different with the QB of the Oline.

If you have the game, watch it and watch it close. Its very clear the entire Oline is a little skeptical on when this ball is actually going to be snapped when they do the switcheroo with center. Even Long, he moved at least three times before the ball was snapped but was lucky enough to only be banged for one offsides penalty. On one play, crap, He had hisone leg already completely in the air in anticipation of the rush and the ball was still on the ground, lucked out, no call there. We are usually pretty good at getting off the balll and whats clear, at least to what I saw, was 4 offensive lineman sometimes getting off late due to just wanting to be sure of when the ball actually moved.

Tell you what, I do not know if anyone is keeping track of Penalties in the preseason, if this keeps up, Long may set a record for leaving early before the snap. You can see Incognito and Jerry are just staying put and a little hesitant to jump up. This is in regards to ball movement by the center. I love the Oline and have studied them for years. Your center is your QB of the Oline and it really really surprises me a guy like Sparano would even continue, all training camp and OTAs, this kind of movement with an Center.

I'm not getting down on Berger or Grove but lets face it, neither is knock em dead center material. I hate to say it, but if Berger had not been a Sparano and Tuna kid in Dallas, would we even be seeing this type of stuff going on ?

IMO, not much of a difference in the way the two play. ONLY difference I can see is Berger is horrible on doublteams and getting to the second level and Grove is slow getting to the second level then hits nobody when he gets there. At first I thought Incognito was at fault for not blocking downfield on that screen play. Then I rewatched it and its clear, Incognito went downfield and yes, saw a lber coming and hesitated but then continued downfield once he saw the center inposition to make the block, good decision, go further down create more havoc. Problem was, the center, who I believe was Grove, just let the lber run right by him and make the tackle for no gain. Now, I guess Incognito could have hit the guy and received heat after the game for hitting another guys man but IMO, that was all Groves fault as he just plain ol half heartedly, as he always does, went downfield.

Starting to ramble here, sorry, but there is a lot more going on then most fans want to notice or can notice. I admit, I am a bit anal when it comes to watching games over and over and the regular fans see the bang bang bang and the rest is just in their minds, which in most cases, does not reflect of what is actually going down on the field. Do not start me with schemes. several plays the scheme had no one to block the DE or Corner that was blitzing, no one.
