exactly Woody Johnson is saying just because Oakland was put in a bind and had to pay him that money (because double tagging him would have lead to the 16Milly figure) doesnt mean he will...that isnt market value for that position, 9-12 million is, with 12 being almost too much...I hate the Jets, but good for Johnson standing his good, and he is wise to do so because they have alot of big money FA coming up that are watching this transpire...
I understand Revis holding out - just think he has WAY less leverage. He held out for the contract he got. Isn't exactly making pennies and has multiple years left. I don't see the Jets' motivation to overpay him. I can see asking for more money - but not demanding he be the highest paid in the league. The other problem comes if the Jets do just fine without him. A lot of guys are saying that he gets great help from his safeties. If the Jets don't miss a beat then he has even less leverage.
Tim Cowlishaw (sp?) of Around the Horn tweeted that the Jets and Revis have agreed to a deal that will be announced Wednesday. He said he has a source that's never been wrong. Guess we'll see. Schefter has already said it's bogus. The morons at Jetnation are spraying the walls as we speak.
People believe he got that confused with Mangold...who supposedly is close...according to this they are farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr apart... Citing NFL sources, Newsday's Bob Glauber reports that Darrelle Revis is "demanding" $162 million over 10 years from the Jets. The Jets are reportedly offering as much as $122 million over 10 years. None of these figures mean much without the guaranteed money, but Revis' demands are ridiculous if true. While he's certainly outplayed his rookie contract, he still has three years left on that deal. Based on info from his own sources, Glauber isn't buying Dallas Morning News columnist Tim Cowlishaw's report that a deal is close. http://mobile.newsday.com/inf/infom...wsday_1min&feed:c=topstories&feed:i=1.2230469
Supposedly someone from the Jets confirmed the report and they are now saying Thursday it will be announced. The fact that Revis' agent hasn't said anything to deny it means it is probably true. One of them were going to blink, and I think we all knew it would be the Jets...*******.
yeah bro, he is askling that according to multiple sources...and the kicker isnt the money...it is he hasnt budged from it?!?!?!?!?! Like okay outside of one overpaid contract that expires after next year (Nmadi's) he will be the highest paid CB at 12 million right.....he cant live with that?!?!? The longer this goes on the better the opportunity for something that gets said that the person regrets...ie..."The Jets need me" "Revis lets be serious you get help on every play" something to that effect that seperates them even more....
They'll cave in and sign him. It's going to happen. Then he'll get hurt and they'll have over 25% of their roster tied up in he and Sanchez.
hahahahahahah that was good..... seriously they cant giver into that dollar figure though...16 is stupid money....
This. I want them to sign him to a ridiculous contract, just so it screws up their future cap and then creates a schism in the locker room, because guys have to be traded or cut just so Mevis can make his 20 mill a year. F the Jets.
Just listening to WFAN and the Jets beat reporter (I missed his name) said that Revis turned down a 10 year 122 million dollar contract. Also said the Jet players are starting to resent him, they like the way Mangold (who was in his last year of his contract with more to lose) came to camp and never complained, while Revis (3 years left) at the OTA's complained often.
4 Mil a year difference over 10 years between offered vs. asking. Either he has more kids than we know about......or gold plated turkey cost more than we think. Either way, no justice no peace Revis....attica, attica, attica.....do it for the little folks Darrelle...do it for the little folks. Aiighht!
maybe since Gilbert is his uncle and Gilbert played with favre maybe he wants so much money bc he made a deal with favre to come back. he probally figures that if Favre comes back his intercertion total will rise after farcve throw picks to him. It wont look set up bc favre is going to throw 20 intys this year and Revis wil get his 3 that game
Again, those numbers are fantasy numbers. The real money is in whatever is guaranteed. so out of the 120 million, he most like gets what? 40 million in guarantees? Nothing wrong with that by any means, but the 160 Million/120 Million is simply to grab headlines, he will never see the end of whatever contract he signs (assuming it lands somewhare in between).
hahahaha they dont even knw where he is....dude he is in Miami, on the beach!!! The Jets "don't even know where [Darrelle Revis] is," according to FOX's Jay Glazer. After a spat of erroneous reports about the Jets meeting with Revis last week, we can officially say that the two sides are not close. Revis' camp is obviously not bluffing and it appears very unlikely that he'll cave before the regular starts. The Jets are going to have to guarantee him around $30 million to get him signed.
Both the player reps for Darrelle Revis and the Jets believe they will have a deal done before Week 1, a source tells Fanhouse's Dan Graziano. This is the same source that said the two sides were "almost there" last week. Talks are progressing as Revis works out in Pittsburgh, but it appears the Island isn't backing off from his demands to be the highest paid corner in the league. Assuming a deal gets done, Revis will have no problem jumping right back into the starting lineup despite missing the entire preseason.
IMO that's why it won't get done unless one side folds. My read is that Revis won't back down and the Jets won't back down. Unless they find some way to bridge that, like highest overall money but not the most this season so the caving party doesn't feel like they caved, it won't get done.
So is Brodney's hahahahahahah the Bills might have the best secondary in the AFCE..... Jets SS Brodney Pool (ankle) has sat out three straight practices, and his status for Week 1 is unknown. The only way Pool would miss Week 1 is if he has a high ankle sprain. Coach Rex Ryan didn't seem too concerned, so look for Pool to be out there.
Emmit Smith comes to mind. Held out for a contract, Boys didn't want to pay. They opened up 0-2, and Jerrah couldn't break out that wallet fast enough. With the Jets about to start 0-3 with their vaunted D getting torched they will pay up.
1/2 of his paycheck is gone......ouch!!!!! Darrelle Revis' 31 days worth of daily fines for skipping camp is up to $512,213 and counting. Revis' 2010 base salary is only $981,500, so his weekly checks will be much smaller than normal in the regular season. Unless, of course, the sides can work out a compromise.
I don't think their D will be torched. I think their passing game will struggle. If they start 0-3 that will be the reason. If that's the case I don't think whether Revis signs or not is the key.
I disagree. They generated most pressure through blitzing. You go up against a good QB like Manning, or against a team that can protect against and you will get burnt doing that ... unless you have a Revis out there to cover for it. Add in the loss of Pace for a few games, I just don't see that defense being quite as good as everyone thinks they will be. As Phins fans we like to pretend that Revis Island is horribly overrated a legend only his own mind, but the guy IS good. Easily a top 3 corner in the NFL with Nnamdi and Woodson. You cant just lose a guy like that and pretend you can play the same way without any hiccups.
