Granted, some shocking news today..or is it? Waived: -DMart -Charles Grant -Marques Douglas -Corey Proctor Alright, 3 rotational players and one package Te who was knicked up. IR'd Will Allen Benched: Sean Smith Those hurt, simply because..well..was the Secondary all that good last season anyway? Basically from a larger picture, here is what happened: Marlon Moore for Pat Turner Thigpen for White Benny Sapp for Will Allen Jason Allen for Sean Smith* James Geathers for Charles Grant Jeremy Parnell for Joey Haynos Reitz for Proctor Rose for Douglas And they added Roberto Wallace for one of the departed Special Teamers. What this looks like, and this takes me back, is the old days when you had to cut players at the end of Traning Camp to get under the Salary Cap, there used to be these huge purges of Veterans for unknown Rookies. But mostly, those were Depth players, the starting 25 only had one shake up, Jason Allen for Sean Smith, and it is not like Smith was waived, he is still around if JA does not get the job done. Though personally I stil like the idea of Sean Smith at Free Safety. So anywho, climb down off the ledge people, Jake Long, Brandon Marshall Karlos Dansby and Randy Starks are all still here..
It is a well put together post and honestly fans hate when their name players get cut for players they don't know much about. This place has been ridiculous to say the least. One thing I don't agree with is Sean Smith to safety although I wouldn't at all be against at least trying him there if it helps. Stranger things have happened. But WTF do I know. I'm incompetent and no one likes me or gives a damn what I say.
The on the field reality is, the only real changes are Benny Sapp for Will Allen and Jason Allen for Sean Smith and The Fish for DMart. Allen couldn't play anyway, DMart supposedly has injury issues, and Sean Smith could easily step back in and play. I'd bet they calculate that Q Moses can play DE well enough to make Grant expendable, but the Douglas waiver I'm not on board with as there is a value in steady and dependable. But still, McDaniel for Douglas is not the end of the world.
I know... The changes and moves were pretty subtle compared to what we have seen before yet everyone is freaking out. The David Martin thing kills me. That logic that he was pretty decent in 2008 therefore he should automatically make the team in 2010 is just a bunch of nonsense. That was two damn years ago yet somehow we screwed up because we let him go. Unbeleivable... almost comedy really. I support Sean Smith and believe he gets a bum wrap most of the time but if JA can come in and do well good for him and the team although I think it is disastrous move to bench a young player like that because he has struggled. Careful what you wish for people it might be worse.
As I said before Smith is a gross disappointment.....the possibily is a reality.... Lets hope he is screwing with Smith, and trying to light a fire under the kid....
"It's okay he'll be fine, I'm just gonna take his job and temporarily give it to Jaso-" "Whoops!" -T. Sparano
With this secondary, every week could be a shoot out.... pray for a good pass rush to suddenly appear. JA replacing Sean Smith has quite a sting to it, IMO. Not good....
As a few have noted. Smith can be put in the game in a matter of minutes. He's still on the team! IMO we need a TE, and by some miracle a veteran Free Safety and were golden.
OMG! They cut Corey Proctor? Those bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its official the Front Office has lost their mind!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, the way I see the Smith v Allen stuff is both guys were burned deep in the preseason, Allen by Roddy White, Smith by Sam Hurd (!). They know all about Sam Hurd, I'd guess in their eyes there should never be a time when Sam Hurd beats you like a rented goalie. White of course is an all pro and it looked like Allen was supposed to have Safety help, Smith was man on man the whole time. Still this most likely Jason Allen absolute last chance to ever be a starter in Miami, most forget he was a starting corner in 08 until Moss busted him up.
It's not worth it Adamp....the Yankees will be in the playoffs soon...come on down off the leddggeee!!!
me too. i thought it was between douglas and grant and i thought grant won. Grant is really the only surprise for me. I was surprised by Martin too but only based on past performance and not on anything he did this preseason
ZOMG!!! How terrible! Irish may have manipulated the Rules so he could sign some prospects!!!! Of the Vets, I really do not wish to lose Marques Douglas, he is Odrick insurance and makes sense for us as our pressure comes from blitzing, not the 3 down linemen.
Haha that would top these last 2 days off perfectly! Everyone micro manges this team so much that a 3rd/4th stringer being cut is life altering.
Now I'm not thrilled with these moves, as imho Grant and Douglas would provide instant production with none of that learning curve mularkey so why risk it, but Ireland does have a habit of being too cute by half so it would not surprise me.
All I'm saying JS, is Nolan better be as good as advertised with his schemes, or this is going to be a long year...
Correctomundo FY, Sparano is making two bets this year: -Mike Nolan really is a Top Flight Ninja Master Defensive Coordinator -Chad Henne is a NFL Qb who WILL, not might, play at a high level. Everything else is a secondary issue of little importance stuff like "gosh Chris Clemons sure is inexperienced" Nolan will just have to find a way to use that as a strength Starks I suspect will rotate with Soliai, we will see Starks at DE and we will see 4 man Dlines at times in just a base formation and they will be expected to generate pressure. Think: Wake/Starks/Odrick/Misi or Ikaika or Q I'm almost convinced that in the final game, Q getting pressures from the base 4 man line is what saved his bacon this time around.
Douglas and Grant are head scratchers. I'll be somewhat irritated if turns out they are indeed cutting these guys that they may actually want, in order to save a few monopoly dollars. Grant and Douglas are proven solid contributers Dont risk it! DOH! Your last post ^ mentioned Q Moses swaying the coaches by his final performance. That same thought went through my head. Hes hangin on by a thread!
All I know is Jason Allen as a starting CB harkens back to JB Brown, and the scrub starting next to him.......Not to mention he's a scrub himself. Folks...Some of you came up under Madison/Surtain. You have no idea what watching your team get burnt up every sunday is like. Thank god, my era had Marino. 1:33 and a timeout? Under 3 for the win? Game's won. Man, do I miss that.
Hey old timer dont sweat it too much. Henne isnt Marino, but is a pretty damn good rock chucker. We have the weps to come from behind if we have to.
Marlon Moore for Pat Turner Thigpen for White Benny Sapp for Will Allen Jason Allen for Sean Smith* James Geathers for Charles Grant Jeremy Parnell for Joey Haynos Reitz for Proctor Rose for Douglas Look at it. It really makes sence all good moves without a question. Smith is the only surprise to me. Other than injuries.
You do understand my pain though. I like Henne, actually. I really do, but this secondary..........I hoped to never see a burnt up secondary again. My heart can't take it.
Well keep in mind that those roles are rotational, whomever fills them, barring injuries, will play 200 snaps..tops. Imho they are not 100% on their SOLB's in Koa and Ikaika, if they prove what they can do Q will move to the endangered species list, if not Q could easily wind up starting with Ikaika moved out for Rose as the "next" DE to OLB conversion who hopes to unseat Q. Q, imho, is insurance, just as Grove is insurance for Berger, Berger is insurance for Jerry and Incognito. Wallace is insurance for BMarsh and Hartline, Moore covers Bess.
Yes,a position(s) that's been in flux for a few years seems magically fixed now. Thought he looked good ENOUGH to make the 53.
Don McNeal, William Judson, Langford, Reyna Thompson. JB Brown was the best of the lot, once they moved away from Zone though, he was out of place in Miami. Hey! Maybe Allen is the new JB Brown, and Sapp is the new Reggie Howard?
Understood, but why didn't Grant make the team, tho? He was, in my most humble opinion a "player" and for the short time he was here looked good.I'm not a scout but I saw what I saw.Should have made the team.
He would have been a nice piece on the nickel rush line but I guess they just wanted Geathers for a higher upside? Right now we have 5 Dlinemen: Starks Odrick Langford Soliai McDaniel I think they are trying to protect some of those younger players and will slide them back onto the practice squad then hopefully resign one or both.
Will you stop saying that, your one of us, and I enjoy your takes on our team. I know others that do as well...... even JS thanked your post...lol...you guys kiss and make up yet?
MCD is a better football player than the Jet and Saint that was cut, not even close...Told you man, MCD is gonna get reps son.... first in line for rotation.. And, Mr. Moses....what Padre.....lol. Thats what I thought.
Something to consider. Grant was due a roster bonus if he made the 53 man roster. Don't be surprised to see him brought back. Might have cut him to avoid paying his roster bonus.
He started 2 games that year, weeks 11 and 12. I guess that is why most forget he was a starting corner.
