Hey folks, i frickin love the dolphins. ive always wanted to move down to miami for a season and watch all the games in miami. since theres no time like the present, im heading down there this year. i dont really know squat about miami metro. i figured id just get a sublet from craigslist for a few months and figure it out when i get there.

anyone have any advice as to neighborhood to look into - or any kind of townie tips. any good places to watch the away games? i wont have a car. and i am gay, if that changes anything you were going to say.

thanks for whatever consideration you may impart.

Don't know much about the Miami area - PM Section, HD, Mor911, Desides IIRC - but I want to wish you the best. Hope you find your way around the area.

It's true that we don't, but maybe there are neighborhoods in that area that are less friendly or more friendly depending on a person's orientation.

That being said, Miami proper sucks balls. It's over-priced and the difference between the ghetto and the suburbs is a city block. The beach is even worse (price wise) but there's so much tail out there it's almost worth it. Miami Lakes is a little pricey, but it's still Miami and it's nice for the most part. Hollywood is not in Dade County but closer to "Miami" and the party areas that most places in Miami. Rent is pretty good there and there's a good mix of beaches and places to party.

Also. Get a car. 100% required down here.

I was also wondering about the employment. Generally, work location dictates living area. That said, I have lived in South Florida since 1986, and I am familiar with all of Broward Co. and south Palm Beach Co., but not Miami. If you have any questions about these areas, please don't hesitate to ask :hi5:

Keith. I do believe there is a manual specifically tailored to people moving down here. It has absolutely everything you'll need to know about "Miami Living".

    It's titled:
So You're Taking Your Talents to South Beach

i'd go with the beach. it's the "miami" you see in the movies and it's not really that expensive. if you go to south beach, then yes it's extremely pricey, but you can party all over the beach for the same price as anywhere else. 73rd and collins is an area i like a lot. also, the beach is very gay friendly.

if not the beach, i might go with northbay village, which is a community over the causeway, right before the beach and on top of biscayne bay. if you move too far west in miami, you're just moving into a generic over-populated city.

as for bars to watch the dolphins, they're all over. i like dive bars, so i would check out happy stork in northbay village. it's cheap, has a punching bag and pool table and they show the dolphins. if you're more high class, shuckers is across the street over-looking the bay. you can watch the dolphins and biscayne bay at the same time.

i wouldn't move to miami and live anywhere west of 27th ave, but i know some people would disagree, but i love the beach and i hate traffic.

I'd say to stay from 27th ave for other reasons. But I'm not all that much of a beach person. So it really is up to what you're looking for and what you're willing to spend. Areas to stay the F away from:

    Hialeah
    Liberty City
    Overtown
    Miami Gardens
    Sistrunk (in broward)

All of these places will offer very low cost of living but very high robbery potential.

You'll need a car. It's a necessity. Wilton Manors has the largest most open gay community down here (it's near Ft. Lauderdale)

    How dare you!

If my car hadn't been stolen this morning, I'd drive out to Blackwater and curse you out personally.

Miami Gardens on Sundays... stay the hell away from there :shifty:

well that part is fine. As long as you dont go too far from University (27th) and Honey Hill (199th) you're cool. But don''t kid yourself. There's some places (walking distance) near the stadium that you just dont go at night.

    Moving down to Miami. Ooh...

Like they said, a car is must. The Miami's public transportation system isn't the best in the country. If you got the money, look for a rent in or nearby Miami.

You might also consider Ft. Lauderdale area. It's still South Florida. Hell you'd be closer to the actual team there than Miami.
