Why don't they get creative with the wildcat and develop more plays or use it with a tackle eligible?? If I had my way we'd use the wildcat for the red zone only with a tackle eligible and let Thiggy be our redzone QB

Other- That helmet to helmet penalty and not running the ball in the redzone. We're lucky Rickys fumble didnt hurt us. We had our chances. The Jets played a good game. It hurts to say it but props to them... We'll get em next time!

Personally, there isn't one area of focus. I can see many challenges ahead. I could talk about the pass rush, poor tackling, blown secondary coverage, and coaching on the defensive side( Justin Keller ) was guaranteed to be a target in the 1st qtr, yet no extra attention given to containing him.

In my opinion, the wildcat is a momentum killer and why would you take out a QB throwing effectively or eliminate the play action option? Negative yards on the wildcat is unacceptable.

Honestly, my vote is coaching. I know many of you will say that is the best quality, but the mistakes, tackling, penalties and wildcat are my reasons why.

I feel like this thread was created with the intent of having a poll that will serve as a grounds to bash on Jason Allen. Seeing as the other 3 options clearly arent that big of a deal compared to the couple of plays he got beat on. Seems like a really pointless poll to me unless that's what you're trying to achieve anyways.

Defense and Special Teams lost us this game. Such a shame too being the home opener and the crowd was electric and yet we looked like a huge pile or diarrhea on defense. I give Sanchez credit for making the plays but a little pressure would have been superb.

I'd say we lost because we got outplayed. The part that bothers me is we did not make the big defensive play when we had some opportunities. The offence should have stuck with it's basic set in the red zone.Until we can throw consistantly from tis formation the defence will key on the run. It's time to see if Henne can do it.

The lack of pass rush was a bit misleading though. The Jets planned well for us, and Sanchez to his credit was taking very short drops and getting rid of the football very early. We actually had a good pass rush, but nobody can get to a QB that fast.

I think poor tackling, lack of coverage on Keller early, not using a single running play when we were 1st and goal at the 7 and not coming up with an interception when two were very makable was what did us in. Defense gets the blame this week, but not a bash; they get an A for effort, just could not pull off the execution when critical.

Couple of plays ? try a few I know of at least 3 big plays Allen gave up and if you add those up it added to 14 points for the jest. so it wasnt just a couple of plays, it was huge plays even coach mentioned giving up a td on one play.
Listen facts are facts Jason Allen is the only reason we lost.

This was a one score game that could have turned on any one of a slew of plays.
    IMO the biggest culprits were:

    Allen, Bell, Dobbins
    STs
    Not using RB enough

    in no particular order.

I agree with this part. Every time we went to the WC it hurt us and we lost out on momentum and points.
Funny thing is we should(could) have used it when we were on the 2 and passed three times,go figure.:pity:

Personally, I think the punt block changed the momentum a little bit. It immediately put is in FG range and in a scoring position, which means the Dolphins had to score a touchdown and not a FG.

I vote'd winning the toss and letting them receive, cause to be honest we allowed them to control the tempo of the game at first. For once I would like to see us take the ball and score on an opening drive.

As for Jason Allen, which play the one he slipped? That happens, as for the other one with the safety help and letting them get a first down, Im not going to jump on the guy for that cause to be honest its his 3rd start and he is still figuring it out, you can blame our coaches for really screwing with him since we got him.

Not covering the tight end the first half. Spot a team 14 and you won't win many games.

See, I'm kinda the opposite. While appreciate what you're saying about scoring on the opening drive, I like defering and getting the ball to open the 2nd half. It allows us to see how the game plays out and make adjustments based on how they play us in the first half.

No choice for Special Teams? A kickoff out of bounds, a blocked punt and a 50 yard return in the same game, are you kidding me? That's over 100 yds in field position on three plays.

I'm kind of sick of people saying that the Wildcat has run it's course. The Dolphins, who were on the cutting edge with it two seasons ago, have gone stale with it. Our Wildcat is the exact same as it was when we first rolled it out. Even the Jets had a couple of different looks from it, and they abused us with it when they ran it...and that's pathetic, given that our guys undoubtably practice against the Wildcat.

It's also pathetic that over a year later, we STILL cant cover a freaking TE!! That is unnacceptable to me. Special Teams being a trainwreck for two or three straight seasons is also unacceptable. Why was Carroll not returning kicks? Everyone knows that Cobbs blows at returns. At least Carroll has some speed.

No pass rush. Poor ST play. Got away from the ground game too soon. Head-scratchers with some of the play calling. No Ted Ginn.

I agree that we should have elected to receive. Kicking off only says to our defense..."We are scared of Braylon Edwards".

    The biggest reasons:

All DB's and linebackers not named Dansby or Davis.

Poor, i mean really poor tackling. If we tackled like we did in the first two weeks it could have changed the outcome. Barely ever swarmed to the ball. We got owned when they ran the wildcat. Smith getting the first down to kill more clock when we couldn't tackle him on the sweep was brutal. Dobbins blowing throught the sweep blocking, free shot at the runner and he completely missed. If that was Dansby on that play it would have been a 5 yard loss instead of a first down.

Wildcat. once or twice to keep the D offbalance is one thing. Everytime we entered their half of the field after 3 complete passes and icing our own QB, and the wildcat not doing anything of value needed to be scraped.

No pass rush. Sanchez got rid of the ball in time almost all the time. He played mistake free football because we couldn't force him into uncomfortable situations. I didn't see that happening at all. Completley shocked how well their pass protection was. Woody did a great job on Wake.

Dobbins was aweful. So was Bobby Carpenter.

Jason Allen had a tough game. Over committed on the Edwards TD. Couldn't squeeze the INT, although great effort he was going the other way on a tipped ball. Shottenheimer targeted Allen even after the game Allen had against Farvre, thats risky but it payed off.

    And finally special teams.

    1. We had no return game. Bess was there to fair catch. Cobbs seems to secure the ball but did nothing else, even when he had the first block and a lane. No speed whatsoever.
    2. Out of bounds kick. Unacceptable.
    3. Blocked punt. Again it happens but still unacceptable. Fields is usually money. Our only special teams ace. That hurt.
    4. Poor tackling on Smith, a guy who shouldnt' have been a factor was.

We did lots right in our passing game but that was about it. D, Sp Teams and Running game was beyond terrible. How Henne and the wideouts kept it that close is saying something. The D or SP teams only needed to make one freaking play and it could have been a win. There is no one factor that was the biggest reason we lost. It was a combination of being outplayed in several areas.

Bring on NE. A much more balanced attack should get us back on track. At least we know if we Need our Passing to score us lots of points, the talent is there. That's the only positive i take from this dissapointing loss.
