Hmm, I think Wallace's job was to run the defender deeper into the endzone to pull him off Fasano, and TBH, Henne sometimes is a little to quick to throw the ball Adamp, that is why he missed BMarsh in Minny on that flat route at the goal line.

Henne just wants to get rid of the ball quickly down there..you can see it on the first TD to Fasano on the exact same play earlier in the game..Henne got the ball out his hand like piece of flamming charcoal

first of all, wish we ran the ball at least once on the final drive at the 11. ronnie brown was fresh (small amount of carries) and imo would have been a good option there.

The fade to marshall, i wish we did a quick pass to him.....marshall 1 on 1 with the defender and no help, regardless if hes gassed, ill take marshall.

regardless, game over. lets run the ball so damn much monday, the patriots defense is gassed....and our defense is fresh.

    key to victory.

well of course, the last thing you wanna do is take a sack on 4th down with the game on the line. id rather him throw it quick giving us a chance to come down with it, rather than hold it and take a sack.....the oline was probably tired too

Honestly I would have taken Marshall out of the game for at least a play after he made that great catch and run that would have been a TD if he could have run through it.

That's a very common practice. Offensive player makes a play like that, he expends a lot of energy, he needs a blow.

That first down play where you see basically a zero cover and Brandon Marshall all by his lonesome? You think that was a coincidence? The defense knew damn well Marshall had just expended a ton of energy getting the offense to where they were. He wasn't a threat.

Instead of taking him out a play and then getting two or three good ones out of him, they kept him in and got four poor ones.

And on some of those plays he was pretty damn active with his long arms and hands trying to create the necessary separation that his legs couldn't, and to be honest if Henne'd thrown it I'm sure Marshall might have caught one of those.

i still say running would have been a bad option down there. its too obvious and we werent getting the drive we needed to impose our will. the correct thing to do was to pass although i wouldve liked to seen one henne rollout in that mix

The drive before the half following the Hartline catch down to the two, was the time to run from power formation - instead we threw it every down and kicked FG.....but setting up in a running formation in this last series following the Marshall catch/run Fasano block makes some sense but increases risk based on clock....it would be gutsy to run it...but we did have 2 time outs with those 4 downs. And it mirrored our power WildCat formation series that won the game last year. This year, needing to score then get successful two point conversion isnt apples to apples...but that 1st down fade was in hindsight our best chance it seems with better placement and luck.

You know, I just looked at the gamebook and I'd forgotten they still had 2 timeouts and they took them after 2nd and 3rd down. I noticed during the video when they showed the 3rd and 4th down plays, it didn't look to me like Marshall was dogging anything. He looked in fact like he was expending a lot of energy trying to create separation with his hands and arms within the 5 yards area. Now that I see the gamebook and remember we took a timeout before the 3rd down play, and a timeout before the 4th down play, suddenly I know *why* he looked like he had more energy, and it makes me more pissed off.

There's no doubt he was dogging it on 1st and 2nd down. That 1st down he couldn't run through the fade pattern and he didn't even put his arms up or jump or anything. That 2nd down, I believe that's the one where Mayock accused him of jogging.

This I blame 100% on game management by the coaches. Make that 150%.

Brandon Marshall makes a play like the one he made, to get you to the 11 yard line, most of it being on RAC...he needs a f--king blow. He's not superman. Normally you take an offensive player out of the game when he does something like that, you give him a one- or two-play blow. Why should he be any different? Because he's making more money? Yeah, THAT'S a great way to run a team. Pretend that the size of the guy's paycheck imbues upon him superpowers to go beyond normal human limits.

Get him OFF the field on that 1st & 10. Better yet? RUN THE EFFING BALL. You've got two timeouts. Run the ball, or throw it short over the middle to Bess or someone like that, with Marshall OFF the field, to where you know that you can use a timeout if the clock is still running.

That 1st & 10 play call, the fade to Marshall after he had just busted open that 30 yard RAC play where he was too tired to get into the end zone?

    Stupid.

    Just.

    Stupid.

exactly. we had the right pass dialed up on the 1st down play and on 2nd down is really the only time you could have called a run. from that distance and considering we werent dominating the line of scrimmage but instead were getting a stalemate i think passing was the only option we had. we had some good pass plays dialed up but we couldnt execute them unfortunately because marshall was gassed. if we screwed up anywhere it was in not pulling marshall but i dont know if he was telling them he was gassed. probably not so we find out after the fact

Well, Beast was gassed, in fact he was gassed in the first half and went for IV's, I think he was not available for the FG drive before the half..not 100% on that one.

The larger point is, The Staff is new to Beast and what he can do, they watched him make plays all evening, could be they thought he was fine for the final series.

He wasn't, so next game they know better, cold french fries to be sure, but it is what is.

I think he can, just run him on a route along the backside of the endzone on the end line, put the ball about 9 feet in the air and see if he can come down with it inbounds.

And he is 225, he can easily shield a defender away from the ball with that size and reach combination.

If they didn't "know" him I'm not sure why they assumed a man that was already clearly tired could all the sudden come right out on the very next play and run a one-on-one fade pattern in the end zone and make what they hoped would be a circus catch.

    Ridiculous play calling.

No to talk Ryan up (because I hate that jackass), but looking at the division it's pretty apparent what the ranking of coaches is.

and twice they had favorable down and distances inside the 10 and 5, with a fresh ronnie brown....

as far as knowing what your best play's are relative to down and distance, I think Henning did a real poor job..

Imo, when you have a certain amount of plays, to pick up a certain amount of yards, then no matter the time of the game, if it's in scoring position, then those plays should be scripted to a certain degree..

I cannot conceptualize how a cordinator thinks that a fade route with 2 yards to go, is the right choice...especially considering the clock and the situation..

? CK and other's, shouldn't we have scripted play depending on down and distance?

I think you're off on that one. Every coordinator in the game has plays drawn up in the game plan that depend on down and distance.

If he is the best passer, then why did Brown throw it...??

I dont think Marshall is a pouter, locker room cancer, bad teamate...I think the dude knows he is the best (relativly speaking), got a contract he wants to love up too and wants the ball in his hands every damn play....I want nothing less from my superstar receiver...

I 100% agree....the whole series is mind boggling (which is why I've avoided the forums for a few days...enough re-living it). Up until that Jets game we were classified solely as a running team....how do you not have faith that Brown and Ploite could manage 5 yards in four plays?

I agree, so you think that the way we handled that 2nd and goal at the 2 was preplanned to go with the fade route and the slant?..

its my take that the coache's must understand the situation, 2nd and goal at the 2, go ahead TD on the line..at that point, I must determine before I run a play, whether Iam going to be going for it on 4th down, if the decision is that we will, then I call the three best plays to pick up 2 yards... imo, a fade followed by a slant, should not be part of that particular down and distance package...

Its not about gassed or not gassed....its not about excuses or play calling.....its simply a segment about your PLAYMAKER getting you in position but the whole team failing around him, and that PLAYMAKER not rising above to satisfy the doubters in this segment....its MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACKING. Its no win situation to argue the whys.

The first down pass was the best possible defense we could have asked for and having our receiving PLAYMAKER one-on-one with nothing but Endzone for 2/3 of the area. It was a bad pass that limited the likelyhood of catching a TD. Thats it.

2nd Down QB scramble (unfortunate decision to not flush out to the right with daylight) but then we call TO....breather time.

3rd Down swing pass to Ronnie in Flat...questionable out of bounds or not...but TO again....another breather.

4th and final...oh well TE option?

Talking Heads are paid to talk and critique....they pointed out, rightly so that your #1 receiving threat that got you there.....was only targeted once out of 4 do or die plays.

I dont know Keith..but Iam rackin my brain trying to figure it out..

He did it twice.....2nd and goal at the 2...and 1st and goal at the 5....

This is not good...I dont see the proper scripting going on as it pertains to proper down and distance and what we do well.

This...you guys remember the look on that Jets defensive players face, when Braylon scored on the first/second play of the series against JA, after Miami had them gassed dragging their *** up and down the field for most of the half.....

For the life of me I dont understand how Henning doesnt run it a few more times in the red zone on that series instead of passing it.....Miami had them....

but big dog, are you not taking into account the fact that he just made a big play and run, shouldn't we have taken a more efficient approach to the down and distance....A fade route, if not thrown really good, has a low percentage to begin with, and a decent percentage of being picked off...

Imo, that's not the way to go, especially if you have the time to execute 4 play's 5 yards , or 3 play's 2 yards....

we had 3 plays to pick up 2 yards...and 4 play's to pick up 5 yards...we failed because we din't play the scenario out correctly, considering the many favorable variables.

I am saying, and have said, Monday Morning QB is a no win back and forth argument.

Gassed or not....the 1st down Fade if thrown properly by Henne was the best chance to successfully go right back to Marshall.

Each subsequent play, even with TO's giving him a breather decreased his chance to recover.

Call it what you want....its not all on BM, regardless of how gassed he was.

I am a 100% execution over play calling guy.....100%. We failed as a team to execute when we had amble chances to do just that in that situation.

well lets not use the context of the past game, lets talk about the future..

Throwing a fade under any circumstances when you have 3 plays to pick up 2 yards, when you are a power running team, and you have seen Ronnie brown literally will himself into the endzone on different occassions, then imo, its faulty strategy..your relying on playmaking ability instead of playing the odd's, playmaking is more of a risk than efficiency is, in that scenario...Its the coaches responsibility to recognize the situation, think clearly, and call what gives you the best chance to execute the mission, mission being picking up 2 yards, not throwing a ball up for grabs and relying on athleticism..

That's your opinion. Others have different opinions.

For myself, the only problem I have with the play calling was 1st & 10 and that was only because Brandon Marshall was the guy who just ran the ball 30 yards to get them down the field.

Lets say Anthony Fasano was the guy that got us 30 yards down the field.

Then I'm running the exact same play they ran on 1st & 10.

    Bolded part made me laugh.....

are you talking about 3 plays to pick up 2 yards as the series before the 1/2 following the Hartline catch? If so, yes, we should have been able to pound the rock and run for the tying TD at half time. Agreed.

But, the final series fade to BM on 1st down from just inside the 10 (following the catch run/Fasano Block) was the best play for that Defense. one on one on the outside with 2/3 of the field of play available to Henne....quick drop, read, react, and put it where your GUY not only should catch it, but is the only one that could catch it....Henne missed his target....I am sure he wishes he had it back the minute it left his hand. Oh well.

We also called, what, double the pass plays we did the previous two games?

Marshall is running twice the routes, and this time it WAS in Florida, in the hotter/humid weather.

    He'll be fine.
