Lost in all the special teams talk, where is this high powered offence we are supposed to have.Brandon marshall was supposed to open up the running game and make big plays in the passing game for us.The phins average is 16. 5 points a game the offence was much better last year. What is the problem besides stupid play calling?
what do you expect with a qb with 17 games experience and an offensive line with three new starters. it takes time
The problem, Ronnie Brown is slow, and I hope they offer him nothing at the end of the year, I think the injuries have taken a toll on him finally. The offensive line isnt as good as we thought, however I think they will be fine by years end and they refuse to use the TE....the middle of the field should be wide open...for short and chunk yardage....
We don't have anytime with this schedule coming up.It would be a miracle if we win 2 out of the next 6. We need to shelf the wildcat and start stretching the damm field.Hell if marshall is covered long throw it up anyway the guy is what 6-4 and strong as an ox.I can think of only one long pass too marshall and that was the vikings game. What the hell did we sign the guy for.
we ran one wildcat play monday. i think its been effectively shelved. if teams play deep zone you cant really throw it to him unless its out of desperation. deep zone means you throw short like that screen pass that went for a touchdown
And when you play mix and match all preseason, there is no time to est any chemistry with the Oline. It will take ALOT of time at this rate.
ROFL....so if the team doesnt say it will have a "high powered offense" we can't assume they thought it would be? The apologizing for this regime is hystrical.
we'll see. if the past two years are any indication it takes about four to six weeks before the offensive line hits their stride
Why would you think that adding Marshall changed this to a "high-powered offense?" Marshall is great, but he doesn't have the speed to stretch the field, like a Calvin Johnson, or a Randy Moss. If anything, adding Marshall should have reinforced the idea that the Dolphins are a ball control offense. Marshall excels at taking 10-15 yard passes, breaking a tackle or two, and getting 25-50 yards.
I'm saying that everyone on the coaching staff and front office has a history of offenses that are centered around controlling the clock and limiting turnovers. Theres nothing to indicate they've deviated from that philosophy.
I prefer a ball control offense myself. Quick strike offenses leave your defense on the field too much which wears them out at the end of the game. The only thing about a ball control offense is that the long drives need to end in TD's more that FG's.
The bottom line is ball control or quick strike we are only averaging 16.5 points a game. That freaking sucks. Last year we averaged 22.5 five without a number #1 receiver.
As was stated earlier: Time will tell. We're comparing the average of a 4-game season (this year) VS a 16-game (last year) season, disregarding the fact that offense takes some time to fire on all cylinders and this is getting to us. This offense has yet to peak. Come off the ledge, grab a beer and relax while it all plays out.
The high powered offense is there, we just need someone who isn't a moron to dial up the right plays CONSISTENTLY.
IMO our run blocking has been sub par. I think we lost a bit when we went changed centers. Berger has been good in pass pro, but he isn't as dominant at the point of attack. The illness with Jerry has also hurt. McQuistan (sp?) has been less powerful and he's been prone to false starts which takes us out of run situations. We still seem to run well to the left behind Long and Incognito. I also think that we've used RWs too much. He had a good game Monday, but he hasn't been the outside threat he was last season. Brown has never been an outside threat and Cobbs isn't an outside threat. The result is that our run doesn't threaten the outside as well and and our interior blocking has been worse. I also don't think we have done a good job being unpredictable in our runs. Most games we've been unbalanced, either running too much or passing too much. The addition of Marshall is probably the only that has kept our running game from being even worse. He keeps 8 out of the box more often than we saw last year and his run blocking has been superb.
ROFL...thats the problem YOU ASSUMED. Our Offensive Scoring is down but... 2009 Passing Offense-198.1 2010 Passing Offense-231.8 2009 Total Offense-337.6 2010 Total Offense-339.5 2009 Rushing Offense-139.4 2010 Rushing Offense-107.8 Thats exactly what i thought Marshall would bring. The Running game has to catch up
Your right about berger just a damm shame grove was an injury waiting to happen.I think your right about rickey he seems to lost a step which is what you would expect at his age. Does anybody know what is exactly wrong with jerry?
He had an illness and lost a lot of weight. I think he's expected back and ready by the next game. I wonder if he got the same thing Ike had?
I hope so because we are going to need all the help we can get to beat greenbay at their house. I had such high hopes for this team after they the vikes victory but looking back the vikes were a flawed team without sidney rice.
This offense is too damn slow, the FO instead of looking for speed, quickness and playmakers they are looking for players that are big and slow.
Exactly and even that philosophy has been skewed by Henning's play calling. I think Henning has bought into the fan's creation of a scheme that has to throw every down even though we can run the football real well at times. I go back to before the half the other night after Ricky busted the 21 yard run. The Patriots D was on its heals. Run the ball and eat clock instead of forcing a quick strike pass play the gets intercepted. We had 3 minutes to work with and if you score quick you give the ball right back to Brady. That was a very confusing way to handle the game at that point. Much like the WC on 3rd and 6. Just pointless and unnecessary. I'll say it again this offense has no idea what it wants to be and that falls on the shoulders of the man who is running it.
I'll also say that I agree with a certain poster here who stated that people play way too much Madden and think it is real. Scoring every play is not reality.
It doesn't necessarily have to do with running or passing. Henning will almost always attack the defense's weakest players. But he's going to do so in a way that doesn't take a lot of risks and controls the ball. You can't blame Henning for those INTs. The QB just needs to throw the ball out of bounds.
Will we ever stop rehashing the same damn threads over and over again? Damn. It's the same thing EVERY THREAD!
Henne should have never been put in that situation before the half. It was pointless to try to score quickly is what I am saying. Run the damn ball a few times and burn the clock. He gets too fancy and cute sometimes and take the offense out of it's chance to succeed. We had them gassed and our OC didn't take advantage of it. It was a horrid way to execute. On the contrary my friend it is all about when you run and when you pass.
Our o-line has regressed whereas just last offseason we thought we had very solid backups. Thomas gone, Tsoumpas gone, Grove gone, Smiley gone, Garner IR, Gardner bust, Peppermint Patty Mcquistan lame. Too much tinkering in the preseason and obvious poor scouting (let's face it, these were "their guys") and costcutting has undone everything they built. Oh yeah, who would have thought we would be paper thin at TE?
I remember reading something about how Sparano said the symptoms were different. Can't link it, and my memory is shoddy, but that could also just be him trying to defer.
Your scoring is down this year because of the first two games. Both were played extremely conservative on offense, as they seemed determined to not let Henne lose the game with turnovers. And guess what? It worked. You won them both. You scored 23 against the Jets, which is a decent amount. That usually gets you a win. The biggest issue was scoring FG's instead of TD's. But you moved the ball well, agree? I sure think you did That leaves the NE game. BB came up with some good cover schemes that confused your second year QB. It happens. Getting behind like you did in the second half forced you to abandon the run. Bottom line is that your offense did what was needed to win 2 games on the road. I think it did enough to win the 3rd game. Blame the D for giving up 31. And it struggled in the 4th game, but you still moved the ball up and down the field. I am not trying to blow smoke up your asses. The Dolphins have a good offense.
I'm a realist. I can understand how emotion can cloud someone's judgement and opinions. I'm just trying to give you guys an objective/alternative view. You have to remember - the Jets were 7-7 last year, with a lousy divisional record, and they made it to the AFC championship game. 2-2 after 4 games, 1-2 in the division, is not the end of the world.
Thanks - you guys can talk me off the ledge once the Jets inevitably lose a bunch of games in a row....that is of course after you stop giggling and high fiving each other
If it takes 4-6 games plus 4 pre-season games ,plus off season work outs then Sparano and all his offensive line knowledge needs to take a hike. Why play musical chairs with the offensive line rather than set the line and let them gel BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS. The more I see with Sparano and his offensive line expertise...someone who led that 155 million dollar offensive line that produced a 7-9 record The same offensive line genius that helped bring in Smiley and Grove who both had histories of injuries The same offensive line genius that raved about Donald Thomas. The same offensive line genius that helped bring in Rich Incognito who has played 51 games in 7 seasons Just a matter of time before he is injured/suspended in the mean time enjoy his penalties Lyndon Murtha, played 2 games in 2 years Nate Garner, played zero games 2 out of 3 seasons here...gonna give Grove a run for his money when it comes to time off Pat McQuistan, another Dallas reject...or God's sake what the hell were you thinking Corey Procter, another Dallas reject...played 48 games in 6 years in the NFL and he's still a turd Joe Berger, another Dallas reject...played in 27 games in 7 years in the NFL says it all ANYONE SEE A PATTERN HERE...WE SIGN X-DALLAS PLAYERS BECAUSE WE CANNOT OR DON'T HAVE THE SCOUTING ABILITIES TO SEE OTHER PLAYERS WHO PLAY/PLAYED ON THE OTHER 30 NFL TEAMS...NO ,WE PREFER TO BE LAZY We have a great left tackle,a right tackle that is good, and NOTHING ELSE Sparano has shown me nothing regarding anything related to the offensive line except for it's decline
If it helps, you're one of the very few Jets fans (think less than 5) who I wouldn't do my giggling and high fiving in front of
