Alright so Ian Eagle brings up some of the problems Henne is having, fair enough we all see them as well.

Mike B however, de-evolves into a Stat Monkey right:

This is sort of crap that makes most stats semi useless "ew, you were going good until a pass was changed into a lateral, now your YPA has dropped to 3.93..the running game is crap.."

That illuminates..what exactly? Like "22nd ranked defense" when in fact the 21 points the special teams gave up goes onto the defensive ledger, that is more points than the D has given up in 2 of 4 games, and yet the Defense is tagged with them.

Drop those ST points and the D moves to 15th place (Nolan's Historic Avg finish) and the pass defense has been outstanding at 4th in the NFL.

    Stat monkeys..:chuckle:

In the end does it really matter? There are so many analysts out there that get paid to talk you know eventually something will be said that is either asinine or couldn't be farther from the truth.

What bothers me about this isn't Eagle's questioning of Henne showing enough yet, it is the Stat Monkey aspect, a pass was changed into a run, went for -3 yds, which pushes the YPA under 4.0.

Which proves what exactly? Mike B believes that it means the running game is not very good..all from one scorer's switch, it is absurd.

It's like when someone says something good about our Dolphins, we tend to like them or believe that they know what their talking about, but when someone says something bad, we tend to get defensive about our team. The only thing we need to understand is that they are only giving their opinions.

You can't run, it makes passing harder.

One of the big reasons Sanchez is having a good season is his team leads the league in rushing, averaging over 160 yards a game, a good running game does wonders for your QB

What gets me is this thought process Adamp, a DBess minus play is switched from a pass into a run, it lost 3 yds, so the YPA drops below 4.0, and this is some indictment of the running game?

That is bloody stupid, and I blame Stat Monkey WHP and SABR nerds for it!

    Damn Stat Monkeys!

Nerds, this idea that a single change in the scorer's sheet means the entire running game is not very good is so ******ed if the Author of Moneyball could be found, he should be shot out of a cannon into brick wall.

Sorry, but what you’re doing is tantamount to saying “we’ll just throw out all the bad plays, and look, we have a great running game!” It’s the same thing Sparano did when he said that if you take out a couple of the bad special teams plays against the Pats, then the STs actually played alright.

    Cherry picking doesn’t work.

Oh sure, and an after the fact switching of a passing play into a running play isn't being used to attempt to make a point isn't ridiculous enough.

Who killed common sense? Was it that bastard who wrote Moneyball?

No, what he said was, "we'll just throw out all the plays that do not actually matter when talking about what we are talking about." It is like saying that the if you add in the 3 interceptions for touchdowns, in three games the defense goes from giving up 14 points a game to 21 points per game, which takes them from 3rd in the league to 21st.

Ridiculous is claiming that the Dolphins rushing game is just fine.

When you look for the average amount of yards gained per rush, then you include all rushing attempts, including the one padre is complaining about.

    That’s how averaging works.

That is what a Stat Monkey would look at, you gloss over the fact that the YPC avg was fine until the Bess -3 play was switched to a run officially, now it is some talking point that the running game is poor?

Stat Monkey should be laughed till scorned for such stupidity.

Where did I say that the YPC was fine before the Bess play? That’s your assumption, not mine.

On the other hand, it’s your right to think that the guys who write down how many yards were gained per rush attempt are the problem, not the guys gaining the yards to begin with. Keep shooting those messengers, padre. Maybe they’ll bring you better news if you clip enough of ‘em.

That would be "me" who said that, it is "you" who is attempting to say the YPA is poor, and point to a scoring change dropping the YPA below 4.0 as some sort of additional (not primary) proof.

Des, we've chatted over the yrs and one thing I've noticed:

You NEVER question the methods that are used to come up with nearly anything related to football, common sense would say "they changed the score book after the fact, that proves absolutely nothing" you on the other hand think that is just fine.

    I find Drone Think fascinating.

What are you talking about? I've known a fair few Asian folks and I never heard any of them say monkey when they are gambling. Heck, monkey isn't even a word in any Asian language. When I was in Korea the word for monkey is something like wongzingy. I know because my good buddy Travis from Jawjuh was really hairy and I used to point and say wongzingy and all the Koreans laughed and said wongzingy too.

Then the Thai word for monkey is something like ling.

The Tagalog word for monkey is something like unggoy.

So what Asians say monkey when they gamble? Most Pinoy gaamble or bet on **** fights. It's ok to say **** because **** is in the bible. "And the **** crowed three times." It is in the bible. **** is in the bible. The good book.

    Wake up my man.

The dude abides. This aggression it will not stand, man.

DJ, i love you man!!! Like a brother I mean. Not anything perverted. But I never heard any Asian folks say 'monkey' when they gamble.

How about a group hug? We all want the Dolphins to win more than anything.
Except maybe winning the power ball lottery for $50 mil.

I can't believe there is a filter that filters out a biblical word like c0ck. :(

Color me sad on that one.

Paddy dear oh did you hear the news that's going around?

The shamrock is forbid by law to grow on Irish ground.

St Patrick's day no more we'll speak.

    his colors can't be seen.

for they made a bloody law against the wearing of the green.

Pads my man, were you born in the year of the monkey, in Chinese zodiac?

You sure have a fixation lately for the term stat monkey.

Maybe you are a stat monkey too?

It is ok if you are. I know you mean well and your heart is in the right place and you love the Dolphins. like any of us here, we want our beloved Dolphins to win every Sunday.

I know I have since I first saw my man Bob Griese throwing passes to Jack Clancy. Boilermaker to a Wolverine. hehehe. Purdue was once considered a QB factory ya know.

Please point out where I’ve said anything to that effect, whether in this thread or any other. Either I have short-term memory loss or you’re reading things that aren’t there. I do think the Dolphins running game is mediocre at best this year, but I’ve never said “they haven’t hit this target number YPA, therefore they are bad.” You’re pulling that from your backside.

So you take the stance that the NFL should cease its policy of reviewing every game after the fact? There goes official stats, referee grading, post-game videos, player and coach fines, and numerous other activities that result from the NFL’s reviewing of every game.

You act like this is the first time a play has ever been changed after the fact.

Hmm, let us reason together, well in your case, I'll just say my piece:

*Gosh* desides, what could that mean? Does it mean the YPA is bad? Does it mean the stats are padded with an occasional long run?

Golly gee wilikers Desides, that has to mean something...but what? what?

Is that a question, or a statement?

It means I’m refuting your logic, not stating the opposite point.

For the record, I do think the running game is struggling, but not because the team rushing average has dropped below 4.0 YPA. I’ve never held that or any other number out there as a sort of Mendoza line for rushing. I have used 7.0 YPA as the Mendoza line between acceptable quarterbacking and unacceptable quarterbacking, though.

There’s a question mark in there.

I agree with you there, the running game is struggling, but not because the score book was changed for a dopey -3 yd play, imo the Oline is not consistent and we miss a second blocking Te.

Henning made his bones with a two Te/1 hback counter tre offense, we do not have that in the lineup this year, that has to be fixed, imo they should run Mickey Shuler on Wham blocks until his ears ring to see if he is that guy because the season is ticking away..they to get that fixed.

It also begins with a "So" that means it is a declarative statement that has the wrong apostrophe on the end of it.

Who gives a **** what Ian Eagle has to say? I sure don't. I don't care what anyone says other than what the Dolphins record is. Nothing else matters to me b/c record is the only stat that either gets you in or out of the playoffs.

Nothing else matters. Not. One. Other. Thing.

The official scorer said that play was a run. It will go down as a run for all statistical references - I don't see why you would be upset with his considering that play a run. If he had changed it specifically to make a point you would have a gripe; but had he not said anything no one would even be arguing.

    As for Henne -

Our running game has been a much bigger problem than Chad Henne. I don't know how anyone could argue that.

We are supposed to be a run-first team that hasn't been running the ball well. Our RBs have more fumbles that touchdowns.

Ian Eagle merely said what people who watch the Dolphins have also said, my beef is with Mike Beradino drawing an absurd conclusion from a simple -3 scoring change.

Sure it does, fans spend offseason dickering over stuff such as this.
