I have to thank you two for proving what I was trying to tell people about Jet fans before. Only instead of obnoxiousness you're proving lack of fundamental reading and comprehension.

Now, if Tony Sporano opened his mouth and said that the Dolphins were the best team in the league, or if anyone in here said likewise, your comments might carry a smidgen of weight.

However, since none of that happened, and since this thread has nothing to do with what the Dolphins have been doing, your comments are about as useful and meaningful as your team's coach's comments.

But thank you for playing. :wink2:

This is a complete joke. You want to get at somebody because he has confidence in his team? It's also obvious that the Jets can improve so how can he not say we're the best team?

Complete joke. Keep sipping that haterade!

Is there really that much of difference between Jan 12, 1969 and Jan 13, 1974? I was 1 year old when the Jets won their only SB. I was 6 when Miami last won. I don't remember either.

I understand that the Miami franchise has had a lot more success over the years, but in your scenario of 31 losers, there is a difference of 5 years between the two teams.

The difference between 2nd place and 32nd is being the 1st loser or last loser. My point wasn't that the Dolphins have had more success than the Jets and until they win a SB I refrain (for the most part) from the "how much better they've been" argument. I will however relish in watching their rivals & those fans agonize over what could have been. Rex is setting this up for either the biggest love fest or circle jerk of all time.

Long ago I learned to enjoy the game without emotionally compromising myself. 16 games in a long regular season and anything can and usually does happen. I do luv this game.

In the words of Peter King:

"What I like about the Jets is they don't care if you hate them."

The best record is in direct proportion to the "who gives a ****" part of the season.

We'll see where the teams are at the end, and if the Jets are watching the SB from the couch and so are the Phins none of this will matter.

And in the words of Bill Billichek it doesnt matter if you go 16-0 if you dont win the game that matters the most. Get back to me when you guys when the SB which wont be this yr...sorry.

I would bet $10,000 at 10:1 odds (if I win I only get $1,000 back) that the Jets don't win the Super Bowl this year. I'd even bet more at the same (or worse) odds if I could.

That's fine. Believe what you want, but every player, staff member, and fan believe in the Jets. You can't break our confidence. We talk the talk but we also walk the walk.

Personally, I don't think you guys are going to make the playoffs.

I think there's a very strong chance we don't make the playoffs this season.

I don't have to break your confidence though, it's a fact that you won't win the Super Bowl this year.

The Steelers also have only lost 1 game and just got their starting Quarterback back last week. They are looking more impressive than the Jets as well.

It's obvious that he was asked if he felt the Jets were the best team in the league b/c he said: "so absolutely". He also didn't say: "Yes, we ARE the best in the league"; he said "It's hard to say that we're NOT the best team", which has an entirely different emphasis and is a little more humble. I'm sorry, but that's not arrogance; it's confidence...... and if I were playing in the NFL, I'd want to hear my coach answer that question the same way. I don't see any lack of humility in it.

How should he answer it? They won 2 playoff games and were a game away from the SB last season, and now have the best record in the league. I don't feel they're the best, but his answer is legitimate. He didn't come right out and say "yes we're the best". He rationalized his answer first by using their record. I think we're looking for excuses to twist his words in order to indulge our dislike of the Jets. Go ahead and lambast me. :)

How should he answer it? How about:

"Get back to me in December and I'll tell you..."?

Read what I said to DR, have never seen any coach answer like that. They ALL sidestep it. Go and read how Tomlinson answered the same question in that article. THAT'S how you answer it.

December? Why's it have to be December? What's wrong with February when the season actually ends? That sounds like an answer that a coach of a 1-5 basement team would say who's avoiding the question, no offense.

If a reporter asks me if I feel we're the best team in the league after a 5-1 start, then I'm giving an answer that backs my players and instills confidence in them. There's no written rule that you MUST be completely humble to the point of showing zero faith or confidence in your team.

I actualy agree with this. I said the same thing about Porter when he was a Steeler the yr before he was a Phin, if he was on our team we wouldn't hate him or the things he does. I refuse to support anything about the Jets or say anything positive about them except for the fact that they are a good team and are headed in the right direction.

Amazing how almost every other coach in the history of the game was somehow able to instill confidence in their team without coming off that way, and the only one who didn't (Buddy Ryan) never won ****.

Whatever floats your boat bro, I prefer the quiet humble approach. You know, like Shula or Noll. Coaches that actually have won something. :wink2:

Maybe Ryan knows his players better than you do and feels that the confident approach is psychologically more beneficial to their performance than a passive approach.

What's good for the goose isn't necessarily good for the gander in this situation b/c we're in a completely different era and players of today are not entirely similar to players of yesterday. How long has it been since Shula or Noll won something? LOL

Obviously what he's doing is working b/c he IS 5-1 and he DID reach the AFC Championship with a rookie QB last year.

So you think it's better to send the message to your players: "I'm not sure if we're good or not..... let's just play out the remaining 10 games and see how we end up."?

Apparently the word "humble" eludes you.

I'm sure Shula, Noll, Belichick, Parcells, etc etc. said all KINDS of **** in the locker room to their players. There's no need to say that outwardly. These are grown men. If the coach needs to go on record saying they're the best, that's pretty effin sad.

Your comment about this era of players being different is irrelevant. Dungy, Gruden, Belichick, Payton, etc. etc. have all won superbowls without telling the media they had the best team.

As for Ryan "getting to the AFC championship game," I'm really tired of hearing that. He had a good two game run in the playoffs, that much I'll give them, but you keep forgetting this was a 7-7 team before the Bengwads and the Colts phoned in their last two games.

I dont think there was anything arrogant about what Rex said.

How is Rex Ryan arrogant? How? Please give me legitimate reasons. He hasn't put anyone down this year. He doesn't say "x team sucks" or "we're gonna destroy these guys." All he does is pump up his own team/players by saying they are the best. That's it.

As long as it doesn't create undue stress and pressure for his players, then I see nothing wrong with it. If his words negatively affected his players, then he should shut up, but this doesn't seem to be the case. If his words motivate his players, then more power to him b/c his team is all that should matter (not Miami Dolphin fans).

To each their own. I have no problem with what Ryan said. If his team was 2-2, or 3-2, I would.

So how many years does Ryan have to win 2 super bowls? 25? Because that is how many years Shula coached....including 21 straight without a championship.

I am not knocking Shula. He was a great coach. But let's be real. He coached the Dolphins for 25 years. Ryan has been a HC for a little of a season.
