Is when it can win despite a relatively sloppy performance. Henne had his second worst performance of the season. The running game was non-existent for the most part. An uncharacteristic boneheaded turnover by Davone Bess There were several huge drops; one by Hartline on what might have been a long TD, one by Fasano on what looked like another huge gain, and one by Clemsons that turned an interception into seven points for the Bengals. The play-calling got predictably ultra-conservative and gave the Bengals a chance for the tying score late in the game. The Wildcat reared its ugly - drive killing - head again. And yet Miami was still able to cruise to a relatively comfortable come-from-behind win on the road against a desperate Bengals team. Props to Henne for rebounding from an ugly interception and several big drops, leading the come-from-behind score as well as an impressive touchdown drive that started inside Miami's five yard line. Props to Hartline for atoning. He made to big plays on Miami's lone TD drive (after the embarrassing drop) Props to the defensive for making adjustments early in the game and essentially dismantling a very potent Bengals offense after the first quarter (if not for the dropped INT-turned-TD by Clemons, this would have been a non-contest). Props to the offensive coordinator for mixing in some trick plays to try and generate big plays (one worked well, the other should have if not for a pitiful drop) Props to Cameron Wake for continuing to play at an All-Pro level. Props to young Sean Smith for sealing the victory with his first INT of his career. Miami needs to clean up a lot of things (first and foremost the offense's inability to score TDs instead of FGs) but in the NFL a win is a win, especially on the road. P.S. If Miami does overcome their offensive TD issues, this team will be tough to beat down the stretch.
There's no denying their talent. The playcalling is usually the issue. The Dolphins FINALLY go for the throat and go ahead by eight. Instead of going for a two score lead after that they go to the Wildcat? If our defense can learn to catch interceptions they have a chance to be elite.
While I am happy about the win and a JETS LOSS! I would not say this win is a sign of a good team. We once again can NOT score Touchdowns! While I love Carpenters play I am tired of seeing him. ANY OTHER TEAM we lose this game. The Bengals are just crap right now. We got Lucky and I will take that, but are we a good team? yes were good not great which is what is needed to win in the playoffs.
Also safe to say that thread from earlier in the year "Is Ricky done?" was horrible. Ricky averaged 5.2 yards and got the lone Dolphins TD[he's the one who set it up too with a huge 18 yard run], again looking like the more impressive back. And Ricky passed Csonka for Dolphins RB with most yards from scrimmage I think.
We are a good team. We are not a great/elite team. We are hovering on the verge, but are not quite their yet. The offense needs to score TDs instead of FGs, and the Defense needs to get more TOs. If we can start doing that, we will be elite. Oh, and fire Henning, for the love of god. We have the potential to hang with any team in any game, but I don't yet see the ability to put together a needed stretch of games to make a deep playoff/SB run.
Marshall, Bess, and Ricky (sometimes Brown, but not lately) are not talented skill position players? Jake Long isn't the best LT in football? Besides the interior of the OL, this team has plenty of talent.
disagree. i think its just the opposite. the talent is inconsistent. the playcalling is perfect for our talent. when you have a young inconsistent offense you dont take chances when you have a dominant defense. i was watching a stream of the game and people wanted us to throw with 7 minutes instead of running out two minutes. how dumb would that have been with a defense that had produced a three and out 5 out of 6 series. those two minutes we wasted ended the game when we got the pick by smith. if we had thrown henne might have thrown a pick or cincy mi8ght have gotten another chance to win the game the problem with our offense is the receivers really arent getting that open and henne is still capablke of throwing a wtf interceotion. play conservative until you can trust our offense
I'd cover him. He moves the chains but it's nothing that Welker and Camarillo did not do before him. I have not seen him change a game since 2004. Can he run with the ball? Who are you going to give the ball? I said I'd cover Marshall. What else do you have?
.......and I'll pose the question to you that I posed to everyone in the gameday thread. When was the last time you saw an offensive player MAKE a play?
I bet. And you're point? He's still talented. Did you watch the game today? I thought his 18 yard run and 1 yard TD gave us the lead. Oh, and that 8 yard run to put us in the victory formation. Not good enough? What about Carolina last year? The guy is not as big of a home run threat, but he's consistent and makes positive plays when he's in. no, but he pass protects like a freak and can run block pretty damn well too. Kinda important. LOL. You suck at this game.
If by “in every game” you mean “purposefully keep the score close by sitting on slim leads rather than attempting to increase said lead” then sure.
This team is VERY close to being one of the top teams in the league. Poor play calling and stupid mistakes prevent us from being that.
with the way our defense is playing and the lack of a consistent running game and the fact henne cant handle the gm on his shoulders yet its the proper strategy. if we open up the offense earlier this season we are probably 2-5
I don’t care if we have the ’85 Bears defense, sitting on leads is never the proper strategy. Never. A great defense means you should be winning by more points, not less.
People are going to complain about it no matter what. I don't know what it is, is it the hype ESPN and Co. has pumped into the passing game, Madden letting people call their own plays, etc, but the well has been poisoned. No one is going to mention throwing the ball deep or often in 3rd and short, or the end-around that was a big play, or anything like that. People see what they wanna see.
bs. the personnell we have dictate our playcalling. our personnell dictate we play conservatively and let our defense keep us in the games. force the other team to take chances against our defense rather than the other way around
I'm not going to get into the *****ing and moaning that I know is further up this thread. We won and I feel great about it. What I will say is we need to change the team name. "The Miami Carps" for Carpenter because he is our offense right now.
I agree. Besides that one boneheaded pass that was picked off, he played well and moved the ball all game again.
So what your saying is that after the officials talked, if they would have ruled Ricky down, you would have been okay with it because it was the right call? Officials did good, they got together and talked about it and got the call right.
