we really need some of those field goals to be touchdowns to be a good team. field goals wont carry us too far. its a long football season... happy were 4-0 on the road though
Very few penalties. We are soooo good at pass protection. Shutting out the Bengals in the fourth quarter. Overcoming turnovers. This team is making strides. I really can't ask them to win in Baltimore with the Ravens coming off the bye, but man if they do...
Were you satisfied with running the ball 3 straight times(2 wildcats on 2nd and 7 and 3rd and 5) following our most impressive drive of the season? We had the opportunity to seal the game right there and we elected to punt it back to the opposing team who subsequently came 15 yards from having an opportunity to tie the game. I understand the defense of the coaching staff by some of you, especially Henning. But they're not immune to mistakes. And that was certainly a questionnable series of play-calling
We played a bad team and won... Barely and all of a sudden folks think we're good. This was the same as every other week. We find ways to lose games, only reason we didn't lose this game is because the other team found more ways to lose. We do have some talent on this team but we have alot of holes and a clear lack of discipline coming from the coaching staff starting at the top with Sparano. If we were a good team, Parcells would still be here...
If I saw the stat before the game right, Cincinnati has scored the most points by any team in the 4th, by shutting them out is a great sign. As far as penalties go....... We were flagged 6 times, 1 was declined, 1 was offset and 1 was offsetting. Only 4 were accepted. Cincinnati was flagged 5 times, 1 offset and 4 accepted. Overall, this was a very clean game.
No you moron. I'd have him covered him as the DC. Fans can't complain about checkdowns on one hand and then celebrate the talent on the other hand. It's either good or it's bad to have all the "sameness". Yes I watched the game. Evidently I watched it with a little more observation than you. I watched as NEITHER back could do diddly poo versus 7 in the box ALL DAY. I ask for a playmaker that changes the game and you give me 18 yards? Never said it wasn't. I'm also looking for your playmakers. Last I saw when an offensive tackle has the ball in his hand - that's a booboo. What game? I'm having a conversation about talent. I ask about playmakers and you give me 18 yards, an offensive tackle, and LAST YEAR.
Mediocre fellas. Thats all right now. I think that one week at a time if we win 'great'/if we lose 'well what are you gonna do' is all we can hope for. I've said it before, this current roster of players is very average BUT we'll be middle of the pack and may have a slim shot at the playoffs which actually keeps getting better and better should we get help from teams (Like GB beating the Jets. Hopefully the Vikings beat the Pats and we catch up a game today on both) and beat the weak teams on the schedule any way we can. I was switching back and forth between this game and the Heat destroying the Nets so I had a fun day.
You mean in the third and fourth quarter. The defensive adjustments were made today The Bengals were shut down in the second half
The sign of a good team is winning despite having Henning as their OC. Henning's senility has gotten so bad, I believe he was trying to get a win for the Bengals with the playcalling on that 2nd drive in the 4th. A run, and then 2 wildcat runs with 8 minutes left? Senile bastard must of thought there was only 2 minutes left in the game and tried to run the clock out. We also intentionally played for a FG on Carpenter's 5th FG of the game. Typical of Senile Dan. Oh, and there was the 1st Wildcat we ran which killed a drive to nobody's surprise. So yea, winning with this blistering idiot calling plays is impressive. Sadly, should we get into the playoffs, it will be an easy 1st round win for the other team.
Other than the wildcat plays, I am not too upset with the playcalling today. Execution was the problem for most things. We could have had a touchdown to Bess but he didn't look for it. Wallace could have had a touchdown on the next play had he not stepped out and back in... then drop the ball. There were a lot of mental errors that made Henne look worse than he really did. Henning is simply a scapegoat for poor execution at this point, IMO.
The officials made the right call. The guy on the far sideline had the only clear look at the ball, the guy on the near sideline could not have seen where the ball was when the knee hit. They got together and made the call. And congratulations to them for...umm...doing their job. Oh, but let's not discuss that BLATANT pass interference that they failed to call on Chad OchoCinco on that downfield throw broken up by Tyrone Culver. Let's not talk about that BLATANTLY BAD roughing the passer call which kept the Bengals alive a lot longer than they should have been. That latter could have had a large impact on the game.
Here's why I simply can't agree with that statement: Miami has one of the youngest rosters in the NFL and one of the least experience QBs in the NFL. Unlike most teams, Miami's units should only get better with experience. Do they have some holes? Absolutely, but I don't think they are an average squad talent-wise.
as fans we have to have patience. the tds will come when the receivers get open, the qb gets comfortable and the running gm improves. maybe this yr, maybe next but it will come. we are so close
exactly. what i hate is when people act like the team we have this week is the team we will have week 10. we are getting better every week and we are 4-3 with a very soft 2nd half schedule coming up. people really dont get the big picture in my opinion and are focused on the little stuff too much
The 3rd and long run call when we were already in obvious FG position was horrendous. Take a shot at the endzone to Marshall, and if you miss it, you're still ending up with the same friggin 3 points.
if anyone is suffering from senilty its fans that cant grasp the reason we are calling the plays we are calling. we have a championship caliber defense but an inconsistent offense due to youth and talent and yet people act like we should be calling plays like we had marino as QB, the hogs as oline and the saints receivers. when people like you grasp the personnell we have on offense you will understand the play calling henning is calling
Okay CK, if there was a foul on Chad Johnson play, it would have been on us. You can't cut the route off and that is what happened. On the Carson Palmer foul, it wasn't much, but our guy smacked him in he face. I know you and I don't agree on much lately, but it's okay. I fully respect your opinion when it comes to giving us info on players and I fully respect what you give to us, but your opinions about the officials, IMO, are crap. IMO, you have tunnel vision just like most fans do.
I don't believe Henne had his 2nd worst game. I don't think he had a great game, but it wasn't bad either. There's only so much he can do when his receivers are dropping at least 5 passes, at least 1 TD, and leaving at least 80 yards on the field from those drops. Although he had what I thought was his first truly ugly pass of the season- the forced INT....... but he seemed head and shoulders better than Palmer IMO. (and to think he didn't cost us a #1 overall pick )
We need to start getting touchdowns, cant rely on carpenter against 'the better teams' but luckily we only have 2/3 games left against 'the better teams'
agreed. we have to get there if we have a shot at the afc championship gm. if not we'll be lucky to make the playoffs. the good thing is we aree moving the ball up and down the field at will on any team. we get bogged down inside the twenty when the field scrunches but you have to have faith that the receivers will figure out how to get open and hopefully our run blocking improves
So they are average but they are not average. Gridiron said it but I'll take it one further. Henning is the scapegoat for some but god knows don't say anything about the drops, errant throws, and dancing in the backfield on multiple occassions from multiple players. ..............but running the ball while you are up two scores with 8 minutes to go? That's crazy!
as long as we remember henne isnt a finished product i think there's a great deal to be excited about. how great is it to see henne loooking off receivers and finding third and 4th progressions. when did he do that last year? i really wish people would enjoy the little nuances and stop focusing on the wins and losses. the wins will come when our young players develop
that to me was the sign that our fans have no clue. this is football 101 and our fans obviously play madden too much
No it was not football 101 because if they went into a conventional set they may have gained another 3, then a short completion.
In 1994, we had the #1 ranked offense in terms of yardage, but lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs to SD. San Francisco was able to finish drives with TD's therefore they were able to win the Super Bowl. I do think it's good that we can move the ball, but like everyone else, we got to start finishing drives with TD's.
We need 2 OCs. Henning...... and someone else to take over in the redzone as well as call the 1st qtr where we average 4.7 points/game
completely agree. until we do. we are an unfinished product. once we figure out how to score tds (henne, wrs, running gm) we will be a monster. the important thing ius we seem to have figured out everything else. we are so close to being a super bowl team, so close.
Our red zone problems boil down to two issues having nothing to do with play call. 1. We can't run the ball. 2. The endzone takes over where two safeties were covering. Now there will be one or two more defenders in zones that (in the rest of the field) Henne get his QB completion percentage.
I totally agree. I'm enjoying seeing him go through his development actually. It'll allow me to appreciate him all the more when he's fully arrived...... and it gives me a better perspective for just how tough it is to play QB at the NFL level (as well as a greater appreciation & respect for the guys who do it). Plus we're winning in the process so what more could we want.
Better yet when people like you and Henning grasp today's NFL you'll learn that playing for FG's wins nothing of importance. You'll learn that running 3 straight times, 2 of them being the Failcat, with 8 minutes left in the ball game instead of actually trying to win an NFL game, results in a loss against good teams. But go ahead and defend Senile Dan, defend him all the way up until his playcalling results in us missing the playoffs, or us getting abused in the 1st round of the playoffs. I'm sure you already know his playing not to lose philosophy won't get us anywhere, you're just too naive to admit it.
me too. its like every 4 or 8 weeks some light goes on in some aspect of his gm and you realize he's getting closer. honestly once he figures out how to attack the cover 2 defense i think he will have arrived. since we have 9 more games i think it will come this yr. i just hope we get into the playoffs. if he's figured out the cover 2 (he destroys man to man already) we can do some serious damage
