alright guys, i figure this has been beaten to death on this board already, but i just want to share my thoughts. some people may say its a good idea to get him, while others may say things like its not worth the risk, hes a bad character guy, etc. let me tell you why if we have the oppurtunity to get him, there is no excuse not to. 1. randy moss is an elite wr- now, people may say that he has lost a step, and maybe so, but just a few years ago in 2007 he had one of the better years for a wr of all time, 08 with cassell he put up pretty solid numbers, and last year in 09 he still put up real good numbers. i think this year he was just alittle out of it because he was distracted by not having a new contract. the guy though is still elite and makes every player around him better. [ see welker now, and welker with moss. enough said]. 2. we need a wake up call- our offense, although i feel we have solid talent right now, has been so lame and predictable. now with dan henning running the offense, u just never know, even with bringing in a guy like moss, he still may pull this same old playcalling **** still, but with moss in here, our offense would be unstoppable. please tell me how u can stop marshall and moss on the outside, with bess in the slot, coupled with an oline that is one of the best in the league, giving henne ample time to find his wrs, and a very solid running game, although has not done much so far this year? answer- u cant. we would be virtually unstoppable. we are in a tough conference as it is, and whatever it takes to win, ill do, and bringing in randy moss would make us superbowl contenders. this league now is a passing league, and with moss, we easily have the best wr core in the nfl by a landslide imo. 3- contract year- its already week 9 coming up in the nfl, and this man does not have a contract for next year. everyone has seen what has transpired so far this year, and right now teams are prob not thinking about giving him big money next year. however, all it takes is a strong 2nd half performance by him, and bang, that new contract that he wants just may happen for him. this guy is 33 years old, and knows that he prob has one solid contract remaining. However, if he does not perform the rest of the year, teams wont give him anything more than what owens is making this year in cincy, which im sure moss would not want. the guy will be extremely motivated to prove everyone wrong, and show that he still has it. couple that with playing on a playoff contending team, in a division vs a team in the jets who he hates, their corner-back called him a slouch, disrespecting him, would love to rip the jets again, the guy would keep d coordinators stay up all night game-planning for us. now let me get to the reason why some people may not want him and tell you guys why its nonsense. his character issues- first of all let me start by saying this. how many freakin teams in the NFL have won with ''problem players''? the answer is many. r u going to tell me the steel curtain teams of the 70's were all role models? are you going to tell me those good raider teams of the 70's and 80's were all model citizens? im sure u get the point, bottom line is if u win, everything is good, its when u lose, things start to get noticed. also, we have tried for so ****in long to not bring in any real ''character'' guys, and look how much we have won. answer is we have won ****. so how the hell can this hurt us to bring him in. we can only do better than we have in the past, not worse. whatever it takes to win, ill take it. besides, the guy isn't really as bad as people make him out to be. does he dog it sometimes? he does, which isn't a good thing, but again, playing for a new contract with only 9 more games to show he has, i expect him to perform real well. he also was a very good teammate in new england, and didn't become a issue till this year because he wanted a new contract. also we still don't even know what happened in new england with him. everything we have heard is speculation. in Minn, can u blame him? childress is the worst coach to play for. no one respects the guy one bit, do u expect moss to be different? they released him, he didnt even do anything that bad to get released. unless u count refusing to talk to the media really bad. bottom line, low risk, high reward, makes us a Superbowl contender instantly, i say to u Miami- GET RANDY ****IN MOSS BY THIS SUNDAYS GAME VS BALTIMORE!!!!!!!!!.
He got released because he bad mouthed everyone on the Vikings(Including Brad Childress) and praised like 10 Patriot players.
I'm not really receptive to him. Too many instances of him quitting plays. It's gotten worse this year.
He hasn't gotten over his crippling fear of Vontae Methinks Vontae would just ***** slap him back into line.
Well there's only one way that we can do that, no? I am all for bringing Moss on board... Marshall, Moss, and Bess?!
he will only play where he wants to play. why would you want him here if he didn't want to play here? he'd just be acting like he was in minnesota. bring him here if he wants to come, but he better show up. his salary is $6M+ and whoever "claims" him will be on the hook for that tab...
I don't mind getting moss on one condition, if he wants to be here. Moss needs to go somewhere he wants to play. Otherwise it will get to become a distraction. Our current players will get pissed, there will be a white elephant in our locker room. If he's down for comming to Miami. Then hell yes i'm for it. Second, you are right the risk is worth the reward. I saw his one handed 40 yard bomb in the middle back of the endzone against revis. Not many wideouts in the league can make that catch. He did that this year. Another TD down the middle in triple coverage. Again he has the skills to be elite right now. However, he gets feather touched in yesterday's game and gives up on a catchable ball looking for a flag. He reaches out it's 7 points. He wasn't even watching the ball. For a critical time in the game no coach want's a WR who plays like that, who can be all world at the flip of a switch. Finally, my last statement that puts me in the don't need him. Say we do get him. Will he be utilized? I doubt it. Just because we add a cadillac to the offense, doesn't mean Henning will stop driving his chevy. His lack of targets could get him in his pissy *** mood real quick and we could have a locker room blowup. I don't think we would turn into a passing first offense with him here as i just don't believe Henning will change even if he had Moss, Marshall, Fitzgerald, Welker and Manning in an offense. He'd still run his backs to be safe. So even getting moss sounds dreamy, application might not follow. That's what worries me about even thinking about getting Moss. And we all know how Diva wideouts get when they aren't the center of an offense. Especially an offense who kicks 5 fg's per game, when they could have been throwing the ball to said wideout. If we get him great, if not were still good.
I really think we are a pass first offense to begin with. We're a short passing, running team that has plenty of plays per game. I covered it another thread but just under 40 passes per game? There's room for 3 WRs in that.
I want no part of him on this team. He Still flashes that all world talent from time to time, but I don't think we should be bringing in a guy that only plays when he feels like it. I'm also not buying into the argument that he will play hard for us because he has something to prove. If that was the case he would have played hard for the Vikings. Heck, if he realty wanted to play for that one last contract he would have played well for New England. If he can't be happy on one of the best teams in the league with a future HOF quarterback then he's clearly not got his head on straight.
Or he doesn't trust the Patriot organization who has kicked out almost every veteran player except Brady over the years. Minnesota is a garbage situation. He still opened things up for Harvin just being on the field.
Maybe, but that just makes no sense to me. If he didn't trust them the best thing to do would have been to play lights out and walk away at the end of the year as an in demand free agent. As for Minnesota being a garbage situation I agree on that. I'd still expect a professional athlete to actually try. Especially one making in excess of 6 million dollars for the year
Get rid of the expect professional athletes to try part. Don't expect that, at all. Not AT ALL. I agree most guys try hard in their contract year to get out there, but apparently Randy believes he'd rather find a spot to try and then get re-signed then just be forced out. I think he really did think the Patriots would just re-sign him and he'd go about his business but it didn't happen. What's strange is that this will be his first FA ever outside of that non-decision to go back to New England a few years ago.
If you were to extend him how would you structure a contract to keep him playing his best. Owens is going year to year and that's why he's shut his mouth almost entirely. Owens is on pace for a 1300 yard season and Carson Palmer isn't anything worth a damn anymore (except against the blitz). 1300 yards at age 36 turning 37. Moss turned 33 earlier this year.
Im not really liking the idea of bringing in Moss! If he'll run full speed up field ok he'll get Marshall and Bess some one on one coverage, but this guy just doesn't fit our persona or locker room. It will take a few weeks to get up to speed with the play book and Henne is young he cant adjust as quick as say a Favre, or Manning to new receivers. Remember we have two good running backs, if the oline gels as expected they are gonna command the ball. Dont believe Moss wants in on a run first team especially if Marshall is the go to guy. Marshall has signed on to our plan thanks to a very large contract and realizing he is in a winning locker room that appreciates him. Moss just is looking for a contract, and many said he'll play hard because of that free agent stuff but he hasnt yet. If we did find away to get Moss I'll root for him as he'll be a Phin. But please coaching staff, give him the day off when we play the Patriots in the final week and the post season is on the line! I just cant justify the move now
i would not be a fan of moss coming here for multiple reasons.the only reason i would want him for is his deep threat ability but we have seen marshall down the field open a good bit and henne just doesnt trust himself to throw it up.why would this change bringing moss in? moss goes on a post, beats his man and henne checks down to the back 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage or the guy on a cross(triple covered because the third reciever is running the same friggin pattern) 4 yards past the line. i would much rather work on our running game..we get that fixed and our reciever issues arent as bad as first thought.
