Just for fun, how many people think: -Chad Henne starts at Qb vs the Raiders or -Tyler Thigpen starts at Qb vs the Raiders Raiders did happen to lose Trevor Scott for the season with a ACL, not sure how effective a pass rusher he was lately but had heard he was tearing it up earlier in the season.
Since no one knows exactly what his injury is, it's impossible to know whether or not he can play. I suppose if he's healthy he'll start but it's not going to make much difference if the o-line can't pass protect. He couldn't really move before. He'd get killed if the o-line plays like they did Thursday.
I think I'd still start Thiggy to see if he rebounds from the last game. If he plays well, and the game is in hand, no need to rush Henne back. Thiggy gets a boost of confidence and Henne gets another week of rest. But, if Thiggy struggles, and assuming Henne is healthy enough to play, I don't hesitate to make the switch during the game.
i'm more interested to know who will be starting on our offensive line and what shape they will be in
I suspect they will be fine, especially with Scott out, Wimbley supposedly has had a rebirth in Oakland, but he feasted on the Seachickens and Broncos with a banged up Ryan Clady. I'd actually prefer a McQ or Murtha at 100% than a one armed Jake Long at LT.
I hope you guys get healthy here fast. Sorry about your loss last Thursday night. I wanted you to win bad. Get healthy guys.
Last night on Sports Extra (Channel 7) they said that if he is healthy, Henne will start. It supposedly came straight from Sparano's mouth.
I wondered where you had been, the Pack swept the Vikes this year and the second game was not even close, thought you'd be happy about it. As for getting healthy, some guys have had basically two weeks off so they should be able to come back, but Jake Long will need months to recover.
Yep, love Jake comes a time when the team cannot afford to play a guy who is not getting it done, I could see a rotation with McQ, preferred over Murtha. But then again, JJ is not exactly playing great either so McQ or Feinga may have to step in at RG as well. Sparano has some serious issues to deal with on the Oline, the quality of the rest of the season depends on how well he does so.
Oh yeah Im pumped about it man. I just dont want to come here and brag ya know. It was an awesome win, swept them this year and beating the Vikings twice is always awesome. Hope you win against Oakland while we take care of Atlanta.
odd thing is, it is better for our playoff chances at the moment if the Raiders win the AFCW, as KC has as bad a intra Conference record as we do, so head to head, we can win the tie breaker with KC but maybe not Oakland.
Raiders coach Tom Cable gave Jason Campbell a vote of confidence in his post-game press conference, and said Campbell will remain the starter against Miami in Week 12. "(Jason) will be the starter next week," said Cable. "There is no issue there. As we could all see, it didn’t make a lot of difference (changing to Bruce Gradkowski.)"
What bothered me about Thigpen...wasnt his play....as much as it was his composure. I didnt see a composed QB the entire game....starting from the bad hand off. These are fundamental QB skills that he seemed to lose from the onset. I agreed with Thiesman's analysis that from what we saw...the game just looked to overwhelm him. I dont question his athleticism, and I still think Tyler is much more effective as a backup QB. In this league...a very good backup QB is almost essential....so just because I dont think he is an effective starter, doesnt mean I dont want him on our team. In fact....I think there are certain packages that I would build around Tyler Thigpen, and given Henne and how he works with others....I think you have to perfect scenario to build a 10 play Wild Cat/ Pistol package with him. Put him where he can succeed....the guy brings tenacity, and heart to the field. Those are attributes you want to keep on your team. I would definatly start Henne....I believe he is our franchise QB...and should be #1 barring injury. But I would figure out a very good way of getting Thigpen involved in the game plan.... For example.....Why not have Thigpen AND Henne on the field at the same time? Thigpen is athletic enough to be a reciever....I can on my own come up with some interesting packages that could make use of the guy.....
assuming berger is starting and 100% i would play henne since the biggest problme henne is going to have is mobility and he'll need the interior of the line to protect a pass rush up the gut. if berger is less than 100% or is out then i start thigpen since he is more mobile and we will have another week of a swiss chees line
Here is how the Raiders got blown out by the Steelers: So it would seem we need competent Qb play and Nolan dialing up the pressure more so than a Qb playing lights out.
raiders arent that good when playing outside of the soft afc west. still it really depends on what type of team we can field physically. the team we had suiting up last week is more an arena football team than an nfl team. hopefully we can bring back some players
I hate to make a prediction since I just suffered my first loss of the season against the Bears, but I think the Dolphins beat the Raiders. I was kind of iffy on that before when I thought the Dolphins would beat the Bears. I thought the cross country trip combined with the Raiders being a lot better this year than we thought would combine to work against us and I was already building in that we lose one among the games we "should" win...and so I thought Oakland might be it. Now, I think the response to this Bears defeat will be strong enough to win, Chad Henne will come back, and we'll beat the Raiders. It would help if the NFL laid down a single game suspension on Richard Seymour.
THIS IS HILARIOUS! Henne HAS TO play if he is able... Thigpen was aweful, he doesn't have the skillsest and that was obvious. If not Henne, go with Ramsey.
I still think very poorly of Patrick Ramsey. But I don't think much better of Tyler Thigpen at this point.
That was real bad, mkay? We'll see with Henne, he is not moving around all that well, and Thiggy is taking first team reps with Richie I at Center.
If Henne is healthy, for the best interests of this team, he should start. That being said, I voted Thigpen, because I believe he will get the nod as I don't think Henne will be ready to go. Just my opinion...
Might be good to start Thigpen until we get the line healthy enough to protect Henne again. Dunno how hurt he is but there is no reason to put him in danger of getting permanently broken.
Maybe Big Jake is talking smack to him? "It's just a leg, you don't need a leg to throw the football, get in there ya pansy"
Substitute the word "pansy" for another word that starts with a "p" and ends in a "y", and you're probably right.
