I think he's a good guy but a ****ty coward of a coach. He has to see that Henning is the reason for our failures and since he didn't fix the problem....he's gotta go. Sorry Tony; maybe the mafia will take you back.
Was thinking about last year too at the end of the year, which lead to Porter being cut. I don't like Porter at all, but this is the 2nd year that there seems to be players questioning coaches. Now I just wonder if they are mainly blaming Henning?
I am trying to remember the last coach we had in Miami that actually had a track record in the playoff's? Not Sporano, not Cameron, not Saben, and not Wanstadt. Who the hell is hiring these awful head coaches?? Here's an interesting formula: if you wanna win - HIRE SOMEONE WITH A TRACK RECORD IN WINNING! DUHHHHHH!
For what he gets paid for SURE I'll kick it and get the same result problably too. Hell, I'll get the SAME EXACT RESULT and only charge Ross for the price of a ticket and a couple of beers.
I dont get why some people are having problems with this: Shula went to a SB before us - took us to many others and won 2 with us. JJ won SBs before us - took us to the 2nd round a few times, always made us be a contender except for maybe the first year in '96. But no....we want more like: Wanny - turd and then was a turd here. Saban - college coach, crap here. Cam Cam - turd college coach, good OC , turd here. Sparano - assistant coach and very very mediocre here. So yeah lets keep hiring non-SB proven coaches we've had so much success that way.
Going to the wildcat on that last drive (well second-to-last I guess), when Henne had been passing very well? It was like once they go into long FG range they shut it down. No thought of trying to, you know, WIN the game in regulation by driving for a TD. Sparano is responsible for allowing that kind of play-calling and playing scared attitude, so I'm ready to see both him and Henning gone. Now, if Sprano was willing to fire Henning on Monday morning and admit the offense needs blown up? Maybe he gets one more year. I'm not sure Cowher, unless he brings the Pittsburg front office with him, would be a big upgrade. It would ignite the fans though, and Ross has to love the thought of that.
Disagree, at the very least Sparano should have taken over playcalling weeks ago and made it somewhat known that is what he had done. Sparano has allowed this situation to linger, that is on his head, he also has failed to deal with the Oline and imho has allowed them to settle into crappy play, in the past he would get a guy out of there and bring in someone off of the street if he needed to, this yr he has gone soft. What does it tell us that even Big Jake is getting false start penalties?
i had no thoughts of firing sparno before today. in the 4th quarter of the game i started thinking about it. later today when i read that Cowher has us on his list, i almost considered it a done deal. ( but we know this team. if its good, is it really going to happen for us?) is john gruden still looking? let him and cowher know either of them could be coaching in a snow free town for as long as they can atleast keep the team relevant and hopeful. i dont want to watch the team and expect them to blow the game anymore. i want to watch and have the hope that we can still win. ive noticed in the last few weeks that i am watchting and waiting in anticipation for our team blow the game. i am expecting it to happen. thats a problem. losing isnt fun. its aggrivating nobody wants to invest their time and emotions into something that does nothing but let them down. when there is no longer a bright side, or anything to look forward to, something has to change.
Dan Reeves?... On a more serious note as an OC I could see Al Saunders being a good choice. Far more respectable OC than Dan Henning but their terminology isn't all that different so there's some benefit.
So you still believe Henne's light will come on and he'll play consistently enough to be a high level starter with the right OC?
The kind of team that Henne would need to be top 16 would be probably historic with an Aaron Rodgers level QB and top 5 with a good QB.
How ironic would it be if this clown was an offensive lineman? These posts blaming Henning for all our offensive woes are just outrageous. Sure, he's had some questionable playcalls this season (show me an OC in the league who hasn't), but he's also a convenient scapegoat working with an OL that cannot run block and a QB who can't read zone coverages. What the heck is he supposed to do?
Not call a wildcat play when your QB is scorching hot on 2nd and 10....essentially playing for a long field goal attempt.
Scorching hot? Seriously? He was nothing but a checkdown machine for the entirety of the 4th quater (which wasn't getting us into the endzone, just like it hasn't all season long). Hell, even the Bills DBs knew it (based on their post-game quotes). Henning is far from blameless, but its pretty clear he's not the only problem on offense (which was the entire point of my previous post).
I have been a Sparano supporter for most of the year but I can see no way that he remains as HC. I blame him for totally destroying the running game with his constant tinkering with the offensive line, and this is supposed to be his area of expertise. He and Henning totally destroyed a good but not great quarterback in Henne to the state that mentally I doubt he can recover. This is a business and this business runs by selling tickets and if you are Ross you have to ask yourself what will give me the biggest impact on improving ticket sales or at the very least hanging on to what he has. Now lets be realistic we are not going to go out and get a Peyton Manning and Mcnabb will do nothing to gain confidence with fans. So enter Cowher or Gruden the only option I see to give fans hope and stop the ultimate decline in ticket sales if he does not act. And they are available whereas Manning or Luck are not! I am not sure how motivated they will be as they have both been to the top and have successful careers as broadcasters. The HC job is tough you take a lot of heat and I just wonder if the temperature gets to hot will they pull a JJ. My preference would be Gruden he seems to still have the fire burning.
I see no way Sparano and Ireland survive this season. It makes no sense to have them as lame ducks next year and I also can't see Ross selling giving them an extension to the fans. Hence, they are the walking dead.
It does put up Stats though. We'll see whether or not Sparano is retained, imho it depends on how we finish these last two games, if we go 0-3 to finish the yr again, it would be tough to bring him back.
This was a game full of coaching blunders but the most staggering one came at the end: The revelation that the Miami Dolphins have not even installed a 2 minute offense. If Stephen Ross seriously considers keeping Tony Sparano, he should be forced to watch the last series on repeat for 24 hours nonstop. A series that features: - A 3 WR, 1 RB, 1 FB set on 1st down with 41 seconds and no timeouts remaining - Two WRs running 7-11 yard inside routes - A substitution - A running back running a 1 yard route - The quarterback actually throwing it to him I can live with field goals. I can live with wasted timeouts. I can live with crappy game management. I can live with all the blunders that an in over his head Sparano brings to the table. Barely, but I can manage. But I can't live with a headcoach who obviously never even bothered to install a 2 minute offense. That last series was nothing short of a declaration of competence bankruptcy.
Gonna have to call bull****. Just came off a drive with 9 straight completions and a TD to Marshall. Just drove down the ****ing field into the red zone. Came back from an early INT to throw 73% completion percentage. Stop making excuses.
Not directing this specifically at you padre, but to counter those who want him back I'd say: I don't see how you bring him back based on his home record this year alone. That, and in his Thursday presser he called the interior of the O-line "a small part of the problem" (the question being along the lines of why the run game has struggled) - didn't he practically hand-pick those 3-5 players that have played there this year...Incognito, Berger, Jerry, Procter and McQuistan. That, and his penchant for FGs...I'm pretty sure most coaches would have reservations about sendinga kicker who was already 0-3 on the day out for a 4th FG regardless of how long the previous kicks were. The team is more talented than 2009...save for the O-line...but we still could end up with the same record. That is NOT progress. I didn't even touch on his time-management skills, because, well, frankly I don't have the time. 'Kay!
Padre, its obvious that Henning is gone this year (people need to lose their jobs based on our offensive rankings). But how much of an uptick in offensive production can we reasonably expect to see with a new coordinator considering the conservative philosophy is Sparano's approach?
Yeah, because the offense has been fantastic in the redzone all season long. By the way, how many times this season have we scored 20+ points in a game? And just stop referencing the completion percentage. Henne refuses to push the ball down the field, so he better be completing a high percentage of his checkdowns.
Well here is the thing, I have a hard time thinking of a OC who has come on board and made a poor Qb that much better? I do somewhat agree that the offense utterly lacks anything even close to a aggressive, attacking, philosophy whether that is on Sparano, or Henning or the reality of the personnel we have on offense.
I still support Coach T. He's a good coach, folks, I really believe that. Henning needs to go, and we need to answer the question at QB. But Tony is the real deal, and if he isn't given the chance to continue here, he'll be successful elsewhere at some point. He's learning from his mistakes too.
He clearly isn't learning from his mistakes. The last 5 times this team has won, they follow it up with an embarrassing loss. Something isn't being done on the coaching end of things to solve this problem. He clearly cannot keep this team motivated after a win. And he also should never have allowed the offense to sputter for this long without making some kind of change.
Again, where has the running game been? Everyone wants to put it all on Henne but he's had ZERO help from the running game ALL SEASON LONG.
I agree with you. My point being that its not all Henne, Henning or the interior line, the lack of offensive production is resulting from some combination of all those factors. That's why its outrageous to think a change at OC will alleviate all our offensive shortcomings. The problems run much, much deeper than that.
I want a head coach and offensive coordinator that PLAY TO WIN rather than playing not to lose, being ultra-Wannstache-convervative and leading a team to be #1 in field goals on the season. That is NOT acceptable to me as a fan. Sparano and Henning are goners!!!!!!!!!! Now let's get a real head coach in here like Gruder or Cowher. Thank you Tony and Dan for your efforts but it was clearly not enough. You disappointed everyone. And now us Dolfans have yet another winter of misery.
I don't think Gruden cares what type of defense is being run as long as it's effective. In Oakland they ran a conventional 4-3 and in Tampa, with Monte Kiffin already there, they just kept the system in place because it was working. I suspect that same thing would happen here.
He wasn't even checking down that often. And besides, idiots on this board call designed screens checkdowns.
