will be Bill Cowher. Says that Carl Peterson, is the man that gave Bill Cowher his first job in pro football. FWIW. Also says that Ireland would be out if Cowher comes in, because Cowher would want his own man.
He sounded confident that it would happen, if Ross makes a change. However, the labor issues could be the sticking point. If that lockout happens, or looks really possible, all bets could be off. He made it sound like with Ross it would be Cowher or no change, that he is not interested in any one else.
Funny, "Cowher to Miami!"* *Subject to terms and conditions see details for limitations and possible deal breakers or just plain old rumor mongering
Similarly, Schefter was on Mike & Mike this morning and he too stated that guys he thought were sure goners like sparano and Kubiak may end up being safe, at least in the short term, due to the labor issue. He also backed up Mort's previous cowher wish list report and stated that Cowher didn't wait this long to simply be the coach of the Carolina Panthers. He is waiting for Miami, giants or houston.
Again, I'm off the Sparano bandwagon, but Cowher also had a bad run in the late 90's 1997- 11-5 1998- 7-9 1999- 6-10 2000- 9-7 Very similar to what Sparano has done. Than he went on a great streak.
Interesting thing, I watch Mort like a hawk as he is more of a "Journalist" and he does not spend his reputation without solid information, Schefter on the other hand, just let's it rip, so before the MNF game they had both on the air and Mort was non comittal, Scheftie said "Sparano is probably going to be fired". Mort will tweet whether or not something is happening, I stopped bothering with Schefter and Jay Glazer a long time ago as one is terribly inaccurate, the other a BS artist about MMA.
Schefter is pretty accurate. And Glazer is usually the first to break really big news. Mort is very careful but he's been burned big time before. Remember two years ago when he reported Shannahan to KC? Schefter said he was nuts, basically and was proven right. Anyway, back to the main point. It seems that the owners are using the talking heads to soften up the public for no coaching changes. I mean, Houston is having a "Fire Gary Kubiak" rally. We just boo. Houston fans are burning Kubiak in effigy.
Not really, Schefter rarely breaks news, at least if he does I haven't noticed, he is more "captain obvious", Glazer will break news but you have to put up with a mtn of garbage to sift out a nugget, so no thanks to him as well. Mort also was the first to break the Brandon Marshall deal, and no one saw Shanny being fired so in that sense Mort was right. Listening to the interview now and his words were "he wouldn't be surprised if Cowher was hired" He likes Orton to come to Miami, something we have talked about for around 2 weeks now..now if he were really sharp, why wouldn't we go after Dennis Dixon? Now he is slamming Parcells, now "if they don't land Cowher Ireland and Sparano are staying..I think so"
Why did you use a snapshot of four years on his resume but ignore his beginning? 1992 11-5 playoffs 1993 9-7 playoffs 1994 12-4 reached AFC championship 1995 11-5 reached SB 1996 10-6 playoffs I think it's safe to say if any coach comes in here and delivers those first five years he would be rewarded with a patient fanbase.
true.....Marvez is not always the most reliable, but he did say it. Just reporting what I heard. Don't shoot the messenger.
I'll give it a listen. But as I recall, Schefter broke the Marshall trade on Mike & Mike at something like 7:20 a.m. I remember because I was getting dressed at the time and started jumping around in my underwear. If Mort broke it on twitter or whatever prior to that, I was unaware. But I'm not defending either guy. both have their value and both get stuff wrong from time to time.
I would sum up all of these predictions as logical conclusions and hunches. Some are better at it than others and some are just lucky. If someone predicts an unlikely situation and it happens then I would be more likely to perk up to his next prediction. BTW Incarcerated Bob is off my list as a credible source.
And after that dip he got to another AFC championship with Kordell and then two more when Big Ben arrived, including the SB victory. Cowher's run of consistent good to excellent football is really incredible in the more modern era of football. Really on Belichick and andy Reid have atched it.
It shows you can have a bad run yet still be a good coach, and by 1998 its was mostly his players he wanted.
No doubt, anything is possible. But if cowher's history shows us that he is a consistently good HC, then we wouldn't have to hope or wish he will become one in the future.
I find Schefter to be one of the more credible sources. Mort seemed to be the guy that got used for misinformation by the Dolphins during the Parcells era.
