I don't disagree it can take a while to build a team, but you expect to see some degree of intelligence in the process. Now I get that Tony keeps up with stats and has interesting notes on tendancies. But what he has in data he lacks in good instincts to be a head coach. The management of quarterbacks, the predictability of the offense (to the defenses around the league), and holding on to some outdated playbooks in the Parcells reportoire. Don't tell me you didn't have team speed and your offensive line was injured. You are an offensive line coach by trade, and you and Ireland are at fault for the lack of speed. Your guys on the field. You have a team that can not come from behind. You built a team that had to get a lead. You controlled over three quarters of a game against Indy and still lost because your philosophy is to manage the game into a close game. Problem is you had no killer instinct. You, Tony, shouldn't be in a close game with Buffalo, Detroit, and Cleveland if you have the talent. Your quarterback coach couldn't develop quarterbacks at the college level, and actually helps develop offensive plays that take continuity away from a young quarterback's development. Shame on you Coach Lee.
I will not go on further, but I don't disagree with your position, just that this staff is not the one to do it and has not demonstrated any ability to build a complete team (not just a defense). Exceptionally poor offensive drafts. Long is about it. When you have had three drafts and you are depending on undrafted free agents in major roles you are just lucky if they are good because you blew it in the draftable player assessments. Drafting White in the second round is almost unforgiveable.
This is not the staff to build in my humble opinion. Agree with your assessment of building teams, but disagree with who you say should be allowed to do it.

Are we really still defending a coach who lost to NE's 2nd and 3rd stringers? COME ON!!!

NO, we need a change and ASAP. Hire Gruden!!!! I really do not want to see Tony competing vs. Rex and Bill for the next five years. That will be sad.

Lets get a coaching staff that teaches players all year. Not just one who goes out and tells the players what the game plans are going to be.

If you watched the NE game, you would see players on the Patsies team that were brought along and shown how to do the simple things like tackle. After they earned their stripes, they are allowed to play. That allows the GM there to trade away what most fans think are their core players for multiple draft picks every year.

Bro this argument is severely flawed and very broad.
It leaves out all consideration of facts involved of why certain coaches failed while attempting to argue that "change" itself has put this franchise in the hole it's been in. That's not the case at all.

There are so many issues that has plagued this team over the stretch you're referencing it's not justified to even suggest the concept of "change" is what has killed this team.

our offense scored 7 more points this year then our 1-15 team.......look it up it's a fact and there is another thread that confirms it.

Despite this fact we are not 1-15 we are 7-9.....................reason alone to keep Sparano

Wanny had more then 3 years and showed little to no improvement. Cam, although a nice guy, was a disaster from the start......way in over his head. Sparano can do this....just give him a QB

Then how do we ever beat NYJ and NE?!?!?!?!? Are you seriously saying he is on par with Ryan and BB? Really?

Get Gruden in here!!!!!!! Get McNabb in here so we can capitalize on Brandon Marshall in his prime!! Sign VJACK!

Do you realize that NE's back ups outplayed us on Sunday and NE has a super young team and like 10 draft picks in this year's draft? I am all set with losing to them for the next 10 years.

the teams that prosper are the teams that stick with it...................it is no secret. Bellicheck has had his bad years although they are better then are good ones. It is consistency, being able to settle down and become better year after year. Not learning a system, to turn around and start all over again.

The constant changing has absolutely killed this team. Please prove me wrong

To soon to tell who Sparano is on Par with....he hasn't had enough time

Did I also mention he has a regressed QB who had a QB rating of 27 on Sunday

Eric Mangini just got ****canned, lets gooo ROSS! Your falling behind already!

I dont agree with firing Mangini, the browns were BAD. He had alot of close games against some really good teams. Mistake Brownies.

Yes I watched the game to my disgust. There was a shot of Crowder and Wake sitting on the bench looking up at the scoreboard. Crowder was in the forfront laughing. Wake was in the back ground looking with disgust and shaking his head...................story of the game

I will agree we need a QB.......

    new coach....not today

How about the Atlanta Falcons .......

    4-12 in 2007
    11-5 in 2008 wildcard berth
    9-7 in 2009
13-3 in 2010 Home Field adv in NFC

Biggest difference, we took Jake Long, they took a chance and had some balls, and got Matt Ryan with the 3rd pick in that 2008 draft. Admit it, we got a royal screw job from Parcells and his minions.

Bill Cowher is licking his chops right now, top 5 defense coming in, BMarshall and a Bettis-like short yardage truck in Polite. I bet he cant wait, i bet Marino has been in his ear all year long "Come on man we need you in Miami coach" Bring on the CHIN, if Cowher doesnt like a fire under your *** then your already fired.

Yes, I've followed the pace of Henning critism all year. That critism mounted DIRECTLY from the play of the quarterback. I've heard it all.

    "Let Chad Henne do this."
    "Do this with the receivers."
    "Wildcat, WTF?"
"Run on 3rd and 14? Why not just give up?"
"Play Action on 3rd and 14?"

All of which is a direct indictment of the ability of the quarterback. Fans have confused what they want to see with the ability of the quarterback FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON.

A year too long and he bet the farm on a veteran (Jay Fiedler). Does that mean Sparano gets HALF that time while grooming a rookie?

He should be your warning against the desire to get back on the coaching carousel.

He went from college head coach to offensive quality control to offensive line to TE's to offensive line to assistant head coach. You want more than 8 years experience in the NFL?

Doesn't have the knowledge? He won the division with Chad Pennington. You know the division. The division where the best quarterback in the league resides.

Clock management? Ah.... You have to be refering to the offensive TO's. Yes. Did you notice any of those substitution problems with Tyler Thigpen under center yesterday? That's your "unexplainable" TO's. Wrong personel, late personel, and a QB that looks at the clock under center with under 4 seconds to go.

Yeah it is Zod. It used to be the Orange Bowl was sold out more often than not, and it was FULL of Dolphins fans waving the white hankies. You remember the white hankies ? Are you old enough to really remember when we were a proud franchise ? This fanbase has not always been this bad (if you really can blame fans for not coming out for a team that has lost double digits more home games than has won games as home for the last 10 years). We have sold out every game, bar one, for nearly 20 years. We have exactly 1 division win, and 1 playoff appearance in the last 8 years. What more loyalty do you want ? Did you see what kind of empty stadiums the Saints used to play too ? Houston ? (they lost their team because of it). How about for YEARS before Manning all the empty seats in Indy ? When the Jets are crappy they have empty seats too.

WTF is wrong with a fanbase that DEMANDS excellence ?

While we are at it, how about the 19,000 that attended a Dolphins / NE in the old Foxboro Stadium in the late 1980's ?

I think this fanbase has been patient, and incredibly loyal given the crap that has been rolled out on the turf at Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Landshark/Sun Life Stadium or whatever the hell its to be called next year !!!!

The head coach really has limited options in terms of dealing with personnel, especially at the QB position. We really don't know what went on in regards to the decision making, so I think it might be hasty to put it on Sparano's shoulders. For all we know, Sparano went to Ireland and said "I need another QB, Henne won't cut it".

Here is what I will admit. Chad Henne failed to take a baby step in 2010.

You just showed three years from the Falcons that were similar to to the Dolphins. This year...... Take Matt Ryan out, give him a little shoulder surgery, and then tell me where the Falcons are at. That's the issue.

Point well taken on the Atlanta Falcons (who have yet to win a playoff game since Dmitroff took over). But does our failure to match their quick and impressive turnaround really make this a "screw job" from Parcells? I would tend to believe it was more of a "less than perfect job", which really isn't anything to be ashamed or upset about?

Yes, they "went through the motions for a number of games." The defense played lights out and the quarterback played miserably. What did you want changed? The quarterback? How does that cause a "damning argument against Sparano and crew" when they already attempted to do so?

I hit the big 40 recently. I'm old enough. I'm old enough to realize that the demographic in South Florida during the time you referenced is a totally different demographic than the present. Where did the population increase originate? Were they Phins fans? Or did the football fans come around with another team as a favorite? And what is the favorite sport in the country where so many immigrants originated?

The time you speak of versus the present day is not the same. Hell, there was a war fought down there in the time between then and now.............and damn, something should have been done to save Thunder Alley. That place had history.

Because it was the whole team that went through the motions yesterday. It is Tony's job to get the team ready to play regardless of who we are playing, what game in the schedule (1st or 16th game) what our record is. It is unexcusable period.

By the way, Ryan played last year WITH a shoulder injury, and had a minor surgery after last season. That is the ONLY reason they had a 9-7 season last year.

It all begins and ends with a FRANCHISE QB ! Until they remedy this, we will remain irrelevant as long as we are mired in mediocre QB play ! Tony & Ireland don't seem to have the cojones to draft a franchise QB.

Yes, it was a average team of backups playing the best team of backups.

    Let me ask you this:

Would you take one half with Brady over 4 quarters with Henne/Thigpen?

Would you take four quarters of Ben Jarvis Green Ellis over four quarters of Ronnie Brown?

Would you take four quarters of Julian Edelman over four quarters of Davone Bess?

    Gronkowski or Shuler?

Give me your over/under of Jarod Mayo versus Channing Crowder....

Just keep going down the list. I don't have to fill in all of the blanks do I?

That's why its been amazing we have had the loyalty we've gotten with the fanbase. They have had no star power at all since Marino left, except on defense. Not one offensive player has caught our imagination. Even Ginn, who Cam wanted to do that, started out on a negative - remember the draft announcement ? The near fan revolt ? The booing of Cameron ? and then we found out Ginn wasn't even healthy. A speed dude with a hurt ankle !!!! OMFG it was so reminiscent of Eddie Moore ! And yet the fans have remained loyal to a degree that many franchises in the NFL would die for.

So did Chad Pennington and the Phins results were the same - no playoffs. Hope for the future but no playoffs.

I agree. It begins and ends with the quarterback. They arrived to a 1-15 team and made it immediately competitive. Are you taking the quarterback or the left tackle in that draft? That was the decision. There is absolutely no sense in getting in the hindsight machine to sack the coach three years after the decision. They got a guy, invested a little time in him, and now they have to get another guy. It's as simple as that.

.........after watching yesterday, a damn fine argument could be made that Kevin Kolb (Chad Henne) is sitting on our bench. Are the Eagles ******s too?

Taylor was a marquee player (on D), and Ricky / Ronnie Brown were good as well. That Wild Cat was interesting for a while. But I agree, we have not really drafted playmakers and game breakers, have we?

I agree with the OP. I think changing the entire staff again is going to do way more harm than good. No one on the planet knows the Dolphins better than Tony Sparano, and you know Sparano works just about as hard as anyone in the business does. OF COURSE he makes mistakes, everyone does. I think if (as some of you mentioned) they can do for the offense what they did for the defense this year (new OC and players through draft/FA) we will be a completely different team. Just my 2c.

I agree, and loved watching him play this year. but to the "average" fan they are not going to buy tickets to see Wake. It is the offensive stars that draw in the crowds.
