It’s also a pretty stupid stipulation for a franchise to agree to.

“So you’ll only talk to us if we fire our current head coach. Okay. But because you won’t talk to us until then, we have no real idea how much money you want, what your plans for the franchise are, what level of responsibility you want, and who you’d bring in to run the team.”

    I’d pass too.

When was the last time you heard about a potential coach being wooed while there was still a coach in place? I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but never so publicly. Even if I were a Miami fan, I'd say Ross looks like a complete rookie. To say anything else is complete homerism.

I'm not feeling very confident, that for sure :( And the smack talk that will be coming if they lose will be furious. That's why I am thankful for this train wreck that is going on with the Phins ;) I thought for sure you guys would end up with Gruden, Cowher or Harbaugh. Sparano extended? Thank God.

Again, 4 wins or not, I am happy you kept Sparano over those other 3 and you would be too in my position. Admit it :)

    Sources? LOL.

    Sure!

At this point I just think these media guys are sitting around a table taking shots and developing new scenarios to print that will extend this for as long as possible.

I don't believe anything about anything.

this is only coming out after the fact. it tells me someone is doing it to make cowher look good

even with all the nonsense that happened. you can piece it together and it all makes sense. this one doesnt, imo

its far more believable that it was more about authority. if ross told cowher from the beginning that he would have the keys to franchise, everything that happened over this week would be different, imo. the only guy they really went after was the guy that would come in under ireland

true but the important thing IMO is Ross has learned that there is a proper way to handle yourself as an owner. This propoganda if you will is really an indictment of Ross and how he pursued this. There are people saying that the NFL itself is upset with Ross and may pursue some kind of punishment. If nothing else, everyone has agreed that if you want a new coach, you fire the old one first.

i agree. i think tony is partly to blame to a degree, but i dont fault him for taking a couple of days of embarrassment for the sake of 3 million. i think there should be some consideration about a rule in place for what ross did, esp. when it comes to making the rooney rule a true sham.

I doubt it but if they do punish him I hope its just a fine and not anything serious (draft picks or whatever) because that would hurt the team itself more and hurt the fans because we'd be worse than what it seems like we will be.

Ross wont give a crap one way or the other so really, it'd be all for show.

I think mostly everything we will see comming out for awhile regarding this is going to be political propaganda so everyone involved saves some face (or at least attempts to).

Ross is the Billionaire so everyone will end up trying to crap on him since in the end, I am sure when he goes to wipe his tears away with his $100 bills he will feel it.

Also, the Rooney rule is close to the heart (and memory) of the beloved Art rooney and Rooney family of the Steeler franchise.

Cowher is a Steelr at heart.

I'm sure our approach to the Rooney rule didn't go over well with the Rooney family, nor Cowher.

So "publicly"? Did you see someone from the Dolphins FO announcing these things? Or did you, like the rest of us, hear a lot of "sources" spewing nonsense over the last week? The ONLY reason any of us know about any of these things is not because it was "public", but because some people can't keep their mouths shut and /or the media just can't wait to break a story so they lie.

I disagree. And,I totally respect Cowher for this. Why should he even consider negotiating with a team who still never fired their coach? There was no formal job opening so Cowher was absolutely right to refuse to discuss anything with us. It would`ve shown total disrespect to Sparano and made himself look like an idiot if Sparano was retained-which is exactly what happened. Its not his fault Ross handled it poorly- to say the least. Just because the Dolphins made it into a three ring circus doesnt mean Cowher had to join the clowns.

I dont think Ross was stupid for this weeks antics. He knew what he wanted and went after it, but did not put all his eggs in one basket. He got turned down by Harbaugh and what if Cowher had stipulations that Ross was unwilling to meet, then he would have already fired his head coach and had absolutely nothing to show for it. I dont think Tony takes his job for granted and he truly seems like a good person, lets hope that this causes him to evaluate himself and improve in his areas of weakness.

The thing is, nobody knows if Harbaugh was even offered the position. It's ALL speculation at this point. And either way, Ross needed to look at all of his options.

There is NOTHING wrong with how any of this went down except how the media handled it.

True, but its just wrong to expect a person to fully negotiate with a team when they still have a head coach on board. If the Niners didnt formally fire Singletary I highly doubt Harbaugh would have even talked to them until they did. Its just a professional way to handle things. But,like you mentioned we really dont know the truth. Its all the media fools yappin` their lips so who knows.

So when Sparano brings in an OT, TE, and a punter to try out, without first cutting his current OT, TE or punter is he too acting unprofessionally?

Exactly. I asked this before and didnt get an answer. Why should coaches be treated different then most other employees in the NFL?

    Whats wrong with our punter?????

But,seriously , bringing players in to compete with each other is part of the game. In professional sports most coaches or managers dont get into specifics with negotiations until AFTER the current one is gone. I`m sure you know that.

Why do you think "management" deserves different treatment than the players?

After today I think it's clear that Ross wasn't doing anything any differently than what he's done his entire life during business. He admitted that he would have done things differently if he had known how things go down in the business of the NFL.

I don't fault Ross for anything he's done or how he's done it. His only fault, in all of this, was that he didn't realize that the media would be such lying bags of ****.
