I'm SO TIRED of all the negative comments on this board... The reason I haven't been around that much this season. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I understand that, but I just want to share this with all. Words to live by: Dwelling on the negative simply contributes to its power. We can't go back in time and redo any part of the organization, so why not try to be optimistic and looking to the future of the Dolphins? It seems that some wish to be the "I told you so" person. What way to live is this (rhetorical question)? Here's hoping for a more positive vibe!
this franchise has been mediocre or bad for quite sometime. its going to take more than hope to turn it around. bringing the fistpumper back certainly doesnt instill me with confidence.
sky is falling? no, our Dolphin franchise has one playoff appearance in the last 9 years. pointing out facts some want to gloss over or ignore isnt the same as claiming the sky is falling.
I haven't minded it around here, actually think we are the best site on the net... I love it, find it funny when people get all depressed and pissed off at their team...have you read thru a game thread?, its a blast?
I always wondered about this. Maybe it's because cynicism is considered "cool" these days. Actually openly rooting for someone? That's embarrassingly old-fashioned! What's next, wearing Mickey Mouse ears? :P (Is that why Ross was visiting Disney? )
Didn't see anybody disputing the fact that we have 1 playoff appearance in the past 9 years. The Saints never won a superbowl, so their entire fanbase last year should have been like well, we never won the superbowl, I'm probably not even going to watch and were going to lose. I wasn't singling you out as a sky is falling person, I was just talking about the overall feeling on this board. There are just so many Whoa is me people on here.
Just a thought: if the sky is always falling over Miami, who puts it back up there? Nobody ever sticks around long enough to do that.
Sorry, not going to ignore the fact that we are once again in the hands of an incompetent coach...... the more you do that, the longer it takes to get rid of him. Anyone excited about this upcoming season is ignoring the facts.... which is fine. Just don't tell me I can't think as I please...... as long as there are ppl starting threads like this, there will be posts just like mine.
Being optimistic has only let us down. I expect crap on this football field next season and that's what we'll get ; crap.
I didnt feel singled out, just expressing my point of view. no worries. ive been a Phin fan since about 12, so 22 years now. i used to defend this team no matter what, and often times convince myself they were better than they are even when I knew better. Its amazing what betting on games on a regular basis will do to how objectively you view things, including your favourite team.
Hulk...you're absolutely right....the events of this season, up to and including this past week will mean absolutely nothing to me and most of us if we are somewhere around 11-5 and in the playoffs next season... But to dwell on the negative for a moment: 1) team hasn't digressed since 2008 season. 2) key players haven't developed. 3) talent acquisition has been inconsistent. 4) offense has digressed each year under this regime. 5) OC has retired/perhaps not asked back. 6) QB is still a question. 7) CBA has not been settled for this coming season, which sets back any hope for FA at least for now. 8) due to the frolicking of Ross and the mis-communication of both the local and nat'l media, we look like fools as an organization and will find it difficult to attract quality FAs or coaches to fill the vacancies that we have/will have/should have, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. The extension given Sparano helps, but is he really on solid ground here and will other potential coaches just see right thru that ?? 9) there are holes still in the talent level here (QB, RB, TE, OG, C, speed at the WR position, returners, both S positions, and OLB depth...have I missed anything ??) 10) STs have been a disaster all season long, even after firing Bonegamo... So, where exactly is the bright side of all this ??
Look, I think his point is whats done is done and there is nothing constructive to be gained by continued doom and gloom talk. I don't think that anyone here is thrilled how things have worked out over the last 6 weeks, especially the last one, but what's done is done. It's time to pick the pieces up and move forward. Sparano's the coach, Irelands the GM and Ross is the owner. That is what we have right now and for the foreseeable future. Let's see if they can right the ship.
Probably true, but at this point, is there anything else to talk about ?? The reality is that we are doomed right now. Now, that hopefully will change next week as they start to get things settled (coaches, etc), but right now....things don't look too cherry for us...
This negative outlook is learned behavior. It's a natural reaction after years of getting crapped on. It's not because somebody thinks it's cool. We have been reduced to crossing our fingers and hoping every year that we are even a relevant team. Look no further than people being satisifed with 7-9 seasons b/c 'two years ago we were 1-15' as evidence of this. Being a team like the Pats, Steelers, Ravens, or Falcons has become something that I personally cannot even comprehend happening with the Dolphins. I literally cannot imagine what it would be like for the Dolphins to go into December with the postseason all but wrapped up.
If you don't want people to tell you differently, why do you post on a message boad? So you want to spout your opinions without anyone telling you how wrong they are?
Mostly because I enjoy your warmth........ Secondly, I was referring to the way the OP is trying to shout down everyone for having a negative opinion. That's not disagreeing with me, that's telling me how and what to think. Sorry you don't seem to be able to grasp the difference. Thirdly, I'm rarely, if ever wrong;]
THANK YOU!!! DING-DING-DING!!! Somebody got it... Bob, tell the man what he's won! And to further this... Do we REALLY want to look like the weak, sissy, whining, fans of a struggling organization? Look at the Browns and Lions fan and Raiders fan. You see any quit in the majority of them? How about them Seahawks! If we were in that division we'd be in the playoffs!!! LOL! It is all in your perspective. Anyone think the Jests are a better team? I don't... I still think Henne is a better QB than Sanchez too. Ross wants what we want, an exciting lively unpredictable offense. I'm not saying to put your head in the sand--I'm saying raise your expectations! None of us can steer the direction of the organization, we are merely fans.
winning, losing, disappointment, investment after investment, reward, competition, loyalty the right to a winning expectation is not negativity nor is the right to express that opinion on the forum
Dude the sky fell years ago, if you haven't noticed. It was around the time Marino got shoved out the door by Pornstache.
want some positive? 1) Nolan & the Defense 2) Ross in his recent actions as owner, they are much appreciated by most 3) Ireland & his Scouting Cadre 4) the WRs corp 5) the tradition of Don Shula & Dan Marino now, you've got it it is what it is the fan-base has the right to their expectations w/o being called out as going negative
Friend HULKFish: want to do something positive, constructive? frame a letter addressing: 1) creating a potent offense 2) not making stupid mistakes during games unbecoming of a head coach & taking personal responsibility for another blown season 3) finding the franchise QB this year, we go nowhere w/o one 4) fixing the offensive line that he dismantled 5) winning games not making excuses 6) hiring the right coaches for the job, this time he's the decision maker you could come up with @ least ten items that most would agree with on our forum. be proactive: have everybody sign the list who is in agreement if you get a reasonable response from the forum then send it to Sparano & cc a copy to Ross & the media, as well let him know that all of DolFandom is actively concerned, aware & watching with great expectation now, that would be not only something positive & constructive, but pro-active too! think about it
the right to a winning expectation is not negativity nor is the right to express that opinion on the forum
That is true... However, dwelling in negativity is counter-productive. I never said for anyone to not have an opinion, I just get sick of all the whining and second-guessing. If that is not being a negative-nancy, I don't know what is? Hindsight is always 20/20. Such a defeated attitude to have as fans. The way some are talking, they shouldn't even suit-up next season... As for that list you mentioned? That is pretty funny!
The negativity will die down. I try to be positive, but tend to be negative about the Dolphins in January/Feburary because it's all still fresh and the playoff are going on, where the Dolphins haven't won since 2000, and especially after back to back 7-9 seasons, 0-6 in the final 3 each time with the playoffs on the line. But there should always be some optimism at the start of a new season.
i think the problem with fans is they dont know when to be negative. The time to be negative was during the Marino years not now. During the Marino years we were a couple of players away from winning a Super Bowl and couldnt find those players for over a decade which is just ridiculous. When you're close and cant get over the top thats when its time to get angry. Not when you're coming from a period of suck and have achieved mediocrity. We are where we deserve to be. People think its easy building a winner. Its not. It takes time but fans seem to have forgot that and want instant gratification. The sense I get from the negative fans is they would be happy being the San Diego Chargers, making the playoffs just about every year and losing just like the Marino days. Me I would rather be where we are now and try to build the right foundation so that when we do get back in the playoffs we actually get a ring or two out of the endeavor
I took a couple of months off from this site because of all the negative. This is my first post and it's good that it came in this thread. This past season was very rough on all of us and we all took it out on each other. I made several comments that I wish I can take back, but I can't. For the first time ever, I actually walked away from three games, I still have them on dvd, but I didn't finish watching it live. For me, this was the worst season in a very long time. Even the 1-15 season was better because we were not supposed to do anything that year anyway. The 2010 season, we were supposed to go to the playoffs and we ended up....well, you all know how it ended. I'm glad I took a few months off from here, now I'm refreshed and can start posting again.
