So let me make sure I am clear on this whole Daboll hire....

    1. He is coming from Cleveland whose offense was not only worse than ours, but could only put up 252 yards on us. I mean this is what is supposed to be an exciting passing attack that will harken back to the days of Marino. That is what Ross said, right?

Yeah...that gets me very excited.

    2. Pennington says he develops QB's. What QB's has Cleveland developed?

    3. This is supposed to be change, right?

I thought the goal here was to radically change the offense so we become a modern offense that can stretch the field with big plays from the passing game. Henning's offense provided none of that, yet we aren't going to change much of what he did? Guess the Wildcat is here to stay.

    4. So Pennington thinks I should be excited over this hire, we should all be excited.

So the guy is energetic and that is going to make us better on offense. He comes to us from an offense which really was not much better than us and was one of the worst in the league. Yet because he is 35 and energetic we should be excited about this hire.

I think I am seeing a giant snow job from Ross and Co. Nothing is changing. This hire does nothing to fire up the fanbase and it is going to take a lot of proving to erase these doubts.

Yes...I am officially a non-believer in this new hire.

    I just don't get it.

Honestly, nobody they interviewed got me excited. The two we were sold on were both from Cleveland. Chud was/is no better.

I could have gotten a little excited over Childress, but he comes with baggage.

I am pretty sure they could have talked with coaches from teams that actually move the ball on offense, but for some reason they couldn't bear to do that.

He was given Anderson and Quinn....both were terrible.

McCoy was able to get by on his raw talent, and that still wasn't enough.

Then Again, What Did Daboll Have to Work W/ In Cleveland

    -A Rookie QB
    -Not So Great WRs
    -A Power Back,
    -And Josh Cribbs

Cant Really Open Things Up, Cant Make Chicken Salad outta Chicken Shxt

    In Miami He Has

A 4th Yr QB w/ An Arm, But Has Been Under A Horrible System
-A Good Group Of Receivers Although Lacking A Legit Deep Threat
-Possibly A New Set Of Fresh Legs at RB
    -A So-So O-Line (i Believe Cleveland Has a Better O-Line Than Us)

Let The Man Work First, Dnt Kick Him To the Curb Just by His Previous Experiences and Plus Hes Young So he Should Fire and Mix Things Up

Atleast Colt McCoy looked good (Outside of the Steelers and Ravens debacles), their offense worked a lot better with him under Center. This concerns me somewhat because if mobility is required to run his offense than Henne won't succeed.

It gets better...look at these comments:

"Arrogance and incompetence are the two words I'd use to describe Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll and his offensive staff.

Daboll and Co. came with Eric Mangini from New England via New York.

Within an hour of Mangini being fired, word began leaking out to the press that Daboll did not want to listen to any offensive advice they tried to give him."

    From a Cleveland Browns forum:

MiaDolphan13 wrote: I dont like this hire at all...but is he at least aggressive? and not old school like our old OC?

"He can't put a whole game together. When something works in the first half we stop using it in the 2nd.

He's good with wildcat and trick plays."

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

More of the same...sigh...Believe me when I tell you many comments abound on Cleveland forums about this guy...and most are surprised we picked him and/or they intrigued about the thought of seeing if he can do something with more talent in Miami.

Not trying to be pessimistic, but I never thought I would think of a draft a year from now (2012). I stand by my assessment that Ross is giving Sparano this year to prove something and if not he gets the boot and he did so in order to save face.

Where have you seen this arm? Even when he throws it deep it is usually under thrown (unless it is to Hartline). He has no touch and is constantly off target with the ball. There are very few passes in a game where you go, "that was a great throw by Henne".

ross should have done nothing this offseason. no attempts to find a new coach and no extensions. he should have told sparano he has one year to get us in the playoffs and its up to him if he wants to keep his coaching assistants or not. its his *** on the line. i honestly dont get the sense that this is like the nolan hire where we actively sought out nolan. this just seems like we blew up the offensive coaching staff for the sake of blowing it up and didnt really get what we wanted

Cleveland Browns forums had this to say

He seriously can't leave soon enough.
    Good riddance.

it's not like daboll is calling games any different than he did last season. it's the same old uncreative, predictable crap he called last season.

Right, once again Daboll seemed to be "coaching not to lose" with a 14 point lead... sooner or later you better start coaching "to win" and to save your effing job. (he'll fit right in here)

It's very true....Daboll does not adjust at halftime ever. We go into the game with one game plan and if that doesn't work there are no adjustments.

that still doesn't excuse daboll's pathetic play calling. i know jr high school coaches that draw up better plays than he does. daboll's play calling would've worked well back in the 30s, the 40s and the 50s. but that ancient crap he's calling isn't going to work in 2010.

GET READY FOR A FUN SEASON

we now have a oc that isn't named dan henning and theres still complaining? unbeleivable.

who did some of you guys think we were going to be able to get after the circus act? you actually think we were going to land a josh mcdaniels or marty mornngwhig(sp) or john gruden to be our o.c? we are lucky to get a o.c so quickly, now we can start work on the rest of the stafft, start looking at f.a. and get ready for the combine.

lets play a few games before we try and run this o.c out of town too! you could say hellen keller could call better plays than henning well here's her chance.

I think this is all a wash anyway. My feelings are Ross will be ripping out the whole thing in 2012 because the "lock" and "union" crap will be out of the way by then and there will be no interuptions to offseason activities, practices, free agency etc...

He is going to can the whole damn thing and bring in Cowher, so why not bring in an OC that is as bad or worse than what we already have? He needed to bring somneone in...it's only for 1 year

Luck was nowhere in my post. I in no way believe that Ross is targeting the chance for a 1st pick in the draft scenario...I do however believe he is not commiting to Sparano as he will be ridding himself of him at the end of 2011. I think Ross is going to let 2011 ride out with mediocrity with his end game plan to be a complete washout of the coaches and to bring in Cowher. Cowher refused to speak to Ross with Sparano still employed. Ross is also sealing with the uncertainity of a lockout and therefor an interuption to "normal" NFL activities. He will wait until it irons itself out and can come in at 2012 with a stabalized NFL and the chance to completely retool everything internally. Just my opinion though

I'm not sure how indicative that really is of Daboll's ability. There are plenty of coaches who coordinator poor units. If you go back and look at the rankings of Mike Nolan's units when he has been a DC, you will certainly wouldn't find it indicative of his performance last season.

Schematically, its a pretty big shift.

Yes, the hire doesn't fire up the fan base. How many successful teams in the NFL base their decisions on fan sentiment?

You certainly are entitled to be a non-believer. Obviously you shouldn't just believe in something/someone just because they were hired. But at the same time, I don't see how one could say this is a "snow job" by the team.

What I find surprising is that there are actually individuals on this forum who support this hire. But I suppose when the Dolphins have dropped as low as they have in the last decade. No OC with any real ability would want to come and work for this organization. So all we can expect for next year is more of what we have had for the last two years. An offense with limited weapons and no real QB, which will be satified kicking field goals. With everything that is wrong with the Dolphin organization right now. It would not surprise me in the least if the Dolphins finish below the Bills in the standings next year and the Dolphins end up drafting within the top five picks in 2012. I never thought I would live to see the the Dolphin organization be viewed as negatively as it is right now. Instead of being compared to the elite teams in the league. The Dolphins are now viewed as a team on on the same playing level as the Browns, Lions, Bengals, and others team of this caliber. How sad.

I imagine the interview went something like this:

Sparano: You have opened up the offense and passed the ball down to the opponents 35 yard line. What plays do you call next?

DaBoll: I run the wildcat twice, hopefully putting us in a 3rd and no more than 9 yard situation. I then have the WRs run 5 yard routes and I instruct Henne to NOT throw the ball down the field and take a chance on making a play...I mean making a mistake. We attempt to kick a 45-50 yard field.

Sparano: After several fist pumps, sells Ross and Ireland than DaBoll is his guy.
