I went to NYC for the motorcycle show and have never seen more gear that the tag had just been cut off of in my life. It was like Modells without the cash register.
It's amazing. It's been the same forever. Dolphins in the 1970's, 49ers in the 1980's, Cowboys in the 1990's, Patriots in the 2000's....I never see anyone wearing a 49er's hat or jacket anymore. Before 2000 I knew 1 Patriots fan outside of the New England area. ONE. Now I see them everywhere.
So you only wear Phins clothes from the 60s? You were in NYC, not Nebraska. Did you expect to see people in Browns gear?
I tutor a Thai kid who moved to America 3 months ago. He doesn;t know English yet and has no clue what football is all about. He is a Jets fan.
No but I have my favorite gear and that always gets worn come game weekend. I guess you guys all got together and did a group buy. I would expect that every piece of gear I saw wouldn't have been 2 weeks old. Bandwagon leaves around 8:30 tonight.
It's not just the Jets, this always happens and it's one of the most annoying things in sports. I noticed it too, I've never seen so many people wearing [brand spankin' new] Jets gear in my 22 year life here in NY. I guarantee like 40% of them were Giants fans the past couple of years. Bandwagon fans are annoying in every city. The real fans suffer during the bad seasons, but you know it feels so much better to the real fans to see their team win. I've suffered through 2004 and 2007 & all the others, and I'll always make sure to keep my old 2002 (adidas!) Ricky jersey in good condition so nobody can ever say anything to me when the Dolphins get back to the playoffs. There's a poll [Harris poll I think] of like 3000 people every year on what team is their favorite. This year the Saints jumped to number 5 for the first time ever. 3000 people obviously isn't definitive, but it does show you how people are. During the Marino years the Dolphins were top 5 as well, and gradually fell to the middle after. It's also magnified here because this area has the biggest population, so it's more noticeable.
I remember the Rams' "Greatest Show on Turf" era. Everyone were wearing Rams jerseys. Luckily, it was short-lived. I don't see those jerseys anymore.
I wonder how many Packer fans who gave up when Favre retired like Dolphin fans who gave up right after Marino retired are suddenly big Packers fans again now that they're back in the SB. Speaking of Favre....imagine if the Packers hopefully win the Super Bowl. What a great year he is having! ;]
Dude please. I live in NY and 4 years ago you could find that many people wearing Jet gear if you went on a hunt.
I'm friends with a lot of Giants fans, and suddenly once the Giants were out of the playoffs they seemingly all became die hard Jets fans. Strange phenomenon indeed.
