I agree and I have to say that the one thing that strikes me about this kid is that he's got that Brett Favre mentality of loving the game.

When you love the game like that you are more likely to devote the time it takes to enhance your craft.

The negative I see from him as that he doesnt look pro-ready. Then again...

    Who's COLLEGE (senior year) stats are these?: 378/221 58% 2432 17 TD 23 INT 67.3 QB Rating

NOT comparing. My point is that sometimes...sometimes...guys look non-pro ready and surprise...sometimes they look pro-ready and disappoint.

Exactly. Not that every QB who looks bad their Senior season will succeed, nor that a QB has to look bad his Senior season to succeed. Just that this guy in particular would have been the #1 OVERALL pick last draft if he had come out - how is he suddenly NOT the same guy?!

Yeah, he had a poor season; IMO more because of a very poor supporting cast than due to any of his failings.

But he either is or he isn't a top QB. Don't look at the total package irrespective of external factors one day and say he's the top QB in the draft and then start factoring in **** he had no control over, and change your mind.

Muck made good points about the analogy I made using things I saw in Phil Rivers, and those points stand on their own. But I didn't mean that I see Locker as a Rivers clone, nor even that I think he's anything like Rivers...except in one respect: leadership, and everything that goes into that - toughness, indomitability, strength of character, The ability to lead men in a tough, competitive team game.

That absolutely cannot be measured except by observing the young man yourself; no stat sheet is going to tell you that.

It is the quality that allowed a guy like Doug Flutie to play effectively in the modern era despite his shortcomings.

And Locker has that in spades.

Oh, and by the way - lest we somehow forget - the guy does have SOME Quarterback skills. It's not like we're talking about some WR that they're going to try to convert to QB in the pros.

Just in case anyone was wondering about who's college stats (senior year) those were...and terrible they were no?

Those stats belonged...all 67 rating AND more INTs (23) compared to TDs (17)...yeah pretty awesome right?....

To a young QB named DAN MARINO.

Again, not comparing just stating the point that all-world college stats dont always translate to success in the NFL and of course vice versa.

it would be interesting to look at any viable qb options right now. including rookies although i am more inclined to look at FA, i think there are a few proven decent players out there for us as opposed to a shaky recruit. I would give this kid a shot....what most ppl fail to realize still (and this scares me) is that Henne has 0 intangables. he is flat, plays with no emotion, does not play with heart (leavin marshall to get nailed instead of blocking as he jumped on the ground, never running like a man with the ball like big ben or mcnabb or any of them even penny ran harder) He just has no intangables. and i dont care what anyone says about coaching staffs, or physical skill or any of that to be honest. Chad Henne does not have the personality or heart to be a starting NFL QB its all over his face and in his interviews etc etc. I say give any kid with a set of nutts and a heart the chance to learn from this coaching staff and judge them after that.

WHY no good QB will be there at 15, but next year when we go 1-15 again we can look again..

In Locker, I see a guy who rarely makes two good passes in a row. He's the kind that rises up the board on his physical attributes, but not on his play. I can't think of a single QB who has been so inaccurate and has ever succeeded. And before anybody says it, I'm not talking about completion %. I'm also talking about ball placement. The difference between last year and this is that his targets bailed him out more last year than this. I look at a guy like Henne, who's accuracy has been rightfully questioned, and I still see a guy who can complete 9 passes in a row at the NFL level. Whether they're checkdowns or not, you can win with that if you have a decent supporting cast. I don't see much chance that Locker will ever have even that level of accuracy.

Locker's major problem is he is not able to consistently throw accurate passes. As one NFL GM noted, "Trying to teach a QB to throw with accuracy is nearly impossible, Your either accurate or your not". Locker has not looked very good so far at the Senior Bowl practices and unless he has a great game tomorrow. Speculation is that he will drop into the second round of the draft or possibly the third round. I hope the Dolphins have learned their lesson about drafting a QB who has trouble with accuracy. I think we have all seen enough of this problem with Henne and I only hope the Dolphins do not select Locker in the first round or the third round if he is still on the board. If he is still on the board in the seventh round. I wouldn't object to them drafting him at that time.

If Locker had the accuracy of Henne he would be worth the 15th pick in the draft.

why Henne? why not just say if Locker was more accurate hes obviously a sure fire first rounder? what does Chad Henne have to do with Jake Locker? If Chad Henne didnt have concrete feet, and could slide in the pocket and keep his eyes downfield, he might be a good NFL starting qb.

Because the person I replied to mentioned Henne and how he was unaccurate.

These guys are all heavily flawed. Stick with Henne not out of love for the guy but because he can improve with the right personnel. Maybe you draft a Yates later on to compete but honestly the best thing to do is go into a primarily 3-4 WR running team as we've been talking about for a while now. A guy like a Logan Mankins in FA, in addition to a fast flanker like Jacoby Jones would do the trick. You won't even truly need a second TE. Play to Henne's strengths and go with a 50 run/50 pass attack out of an unorthodox formation. Then in the draft add Mark Ingram, a third round back and sign a decent one in FA and you're ready to go. The field is spread, Henne can read the field a bit better, and you take advantage of that SOBs ability to take a beating and throw the intermediate bullet. Heck you get DeAngelo Williams you'll still have a first round pick to play with at LB instead which is in fact where I expect the pick to go much to the dismay of most fans.

most important & immediate thing to do is find the franchise QB. some possibilities:

    1) draft Jake Locker
    2) Matt Leinart – (Unrestricted) 2006 first-round pick lost the locker room in Arizona, where he started 17 games in four seasons as Kurt Warner’s backup, he spent the year sitting on Houston’s bench. has a 70.8 career QB rating, is looking for a fresh start.
    3) Carson Palmer –should be available for the right price because of his bloated salary ($11.5 million in 2011) and limited success in the wins column last season. Palmer, who has a 86.9 career passer rating, completed more than 60 percent of his passes for the sixth time in his eight year career.
    4) Kyle Orton- should be on the trading block, and can be had for (future) second-round pick?

could always wait until next year & be first to pick

Like you I don't think henne is the answer but I don't want to waste a draft pick on a qb if he is not the right guy.
I watched locker yesterday and he is everything as advertised.A guy with a boat load of talent but is not accurate and if you are not accurate in college you can forget about hitting the smaller windows in the nfl. This is a weak qb crop coming out and i would rather not waste a high draft pick on a guy that is going to holding a clipboard.I am not opposed to drafting somebody in the later rounds to work with and maybe we get lucky like a pat develine from delaware.
I sure don't want to give a high pick for palmer or orton who in my eyes are not winners. Matt leinart is a ****ing bum who i would not touch even if he was a free agent.
I was hoping someway somehow the football gods would drop andrew luck in our laps but we all know how that turned out.
Bottomline is for better or worse we our stuck with henne for at least 1 more year and I am hoping he proves us both wrong because above my own ego i just want to win.
