Would not mind VY, or Hasselback for that matter. We can afford VY, but even still it seems to me the way to handle him is to pretty much demand a renegotiated contract or he may very well simply show up, screw around, collect his 12 millie and hit the road, with a guy like that you need leverage to try and insure performance and effort. Well, the Returner is not a huge issue as there are several options from FA (L Washington) CFL (C Owens) and the Draft. Have to fix the Oline though, no doubt about it.
Before we can fix this OL we have to establish some form of an identity at least on paper and stick to it. In 2009 we had lineman with a run mentality skill set and we were able to run the ball successfully. In 2010 they went in a different direction and decided to be a pass first offensive scheme and the OL changed and the running game fell off the map. They have to do a better job getting guys who have a dual skill set instead of going after one or the other. We know the scheme will change and more than likely we open it up. We will need to add some speed at the playmaker positions as well. We have a lot of work to do. You go spending on an expensive green QB who will have to take time to develop and the same people who dislike Henne will be on suicide watch in a year or so. It is always the same. It is the Marino syndrome. Fans want to draft a young QB but set the standards so high for instant gratification that there will never be enough time. It's a double edged sword.
the obvious answer is an elite offensive line does both: 1) in most cases, an elite line has to stay within the top five NFL teams in both categories or at @ sport the potential to do so 2) the size, speed, strength, aggression & in general athleticism of the offensive line a primordial. once you've got the basic talent in place you can coach to the tendencies of one or the other (running or passing) according to the demands of the offense, but they must have the capacity & potential to do both 3) usually, a good offensive line has to dominate the trench & get the push to open up the run game before the passing game takes off, it then transitions into pass protection. the two are part of a whole & what makes the difference is the emphasis on offense the team will take not a proto-type linesman for the pass or run. 4) a franchise caliber linesman can & must have the ability to do both to be successful in the NFL & they do. coaching determines how their talents will be employed. anyway you look @ it, they have to dominate the trench to be successful
I'm not one to say that Henne needs to go or anything like that, but while we are an impatient bunch that's not a trait that is exclusive to members of the Dolphins fan base. Do you remember the Atlanta Falcons fans response to them drafting Matt Ryan? If not I can tell you that they were pissed about not selecting McFadden or Dorsey. Many still wanted Mike Vick when he came back. I couldn't find an article that showed just how upset they were, but this shows a little bit of proof. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1494761/atlanta_falcons_history_remember_whenfans.html http://soupytrumpet.com/?p=934 Despite that, he was still able to overcome and become a successful starting QB. So I don't think that it's our fanbase that is keeping Quarterbacks from succeeding here.
True but the fan base buys the tickets , fills the stadium and all that. There is a looming fear of laying the proverbial egg with this organization. So in a sense I think the Dan Marino curse sits with them as well. When you have what is considered the best how can you top that. They seem a little gun shy on the fact that they can't. I know it is not the be all end all of why a first round QB has not happened here since or why it wouldn't be successful but it sure does seem odd that in all these years they have never done it. The expectations would be astronomical.
Friend Killerphins: I can think of ten in 2010 that were marino-esque in stature: 1.Aaron Rodgers-Green Bay Packers 2.Drew Brees-New Orleans Saints 3.Peyton Manning-Indianapolis Colts 4.Philip Rivers-San Diego Chargers 5.Tom Brady-New England Patriots 6.Joe Flacco-Baltimore Ravens 7.Matt Schaub-Houston Texans 8.Eli Manning-New York Giants 9.Ben Roethlisberger-Pittsburgh Steelers 10.Matt Ryan- Atlanta Falcons I'd like to know what precludes Miami from landing a marino-esque QB? We could make a SuperBowl run with any one of these top ten NFL QB's with a decent offensive line in place nobody broke the mold & through it away after Dan Marino was made. there will always be others especially, in next years draft
Preaching to the choir bro. I wanted Matt Ryan. The guy makes all the throws, is a good leader and has that competitive fire. They chose to build inside out. I'm not saying we can't get one I'm just saying the organization lives in fear of failure so it seems and the fanbase would eat a 1st round QB alive if he didn't come in and perform flawlessly immediately.
I Think this fanbase is ready to pick a QB in the first round..and I think its narrowing down to Newton and Ckap...
I doubt it Deej, and "they" have only themselves to blame, how can you want the Coach fired, then expect him to make the one move most likely to get him fired to appease a fanbase that wants him fired anyway?
neither are first round picks in my book save the pick for a player that has first round credentials a fool & his first round picks are soon parted I'm all for a QB but we've got a lot of offense to fix how about Mark Ingram in the first round @ RB then a veteran QB to hold the fort down & fix the offensive line next year there should be @ least two, maybe three QB's that are better than anything coming up in the 2011 draft just my unprofessional opinion
