I respect and admire what our team has done in rebuilding. We got a ton of young talent but, now is the time to sprinkle in a couple of vets to bring some leadership to the team. We had it in 08 with Penny, JT, Ferg, W allen, Smiley, etc. Last year we had no one, just a lot of kids trying to find their place in the NFL. It does matter, and should be addressed. JMO.
Agreed, and I suspect there will be several Surprise Cuts among highly paid Veterans as teams try to get back under the salary cap or become concerned with salary cap issues. Sort of like when we waived Grove and gave away Smiley.
I'm kind of curious when exactly they'd be willing to do so. Outside of Pennington, it's virtually only older veterans who were already on the team being resigned. I don't think that had anything to do with the salary cap and everything to do with both of those players being physically broken.
I know that the OL was below average. Would it have made a difference if there was a Grove telling these guys to suck it up and and knock that SOB on his ***? Maybe just a bit, and that bit makes a difference. We had lambs, although some good ones, playing but in no way leading. JMHO
Karlos Dansby 7 years, Channing Crowder 6 years, Yeremiah Bell 7 years, Al Harris 13 years, Randy Starks 7 years, Richie Incognito 6 years, Joe Berger 6 years, Kevin Curtis 8 years, Ricky Williams 10 years, Ronnie Brown 6 years, Lousaka Polite 6 years, Will Allen, 10 years, Jason Ferguson 13 years, Benny Sapp 7 years. This is just 6 or more years. Even though we have alot of young guns we do have vets. These guys are'nt getting younger either. I would say just between Karlos Dansby and Yeremiah Bell you have talent in vets on D. The D line itself is pretty young but when they play like Paul Soliai it doesn't hurt a thing.
I agree I also think we were to young in 2010, and the w/l record reflected it, that does not mean go crazy with veterans but there should be some added into the mix.
I only see 3 positions where the premise would apply..tight end like owen daniels...Inside linebacker like Dqwell jackson, and an olineman...Thats it. I would of signed Bob sanders yesterday..
Eh, I'd add Shockey, and kick the tires on Atogwe, we really could use a Vet Guard as well. Oddly enough Deej, I could easily see Joey Porter landing on the Jets.
Agreed, but I still like the idea of adding Santana Moss on top of that. As for guards, here's a link of the ones available: http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2011G.php I'd have to say Dahl is my favorite there, although I like Kosier, Baas and Lutui as well.
Id like to think Sparano took a backseat with the 0 line last season to let the D build up. Hopefully he steps up and shows us that he really does think BIG on his 0 line this year and maybe spend for vet there.

Thanks for that list. We do have some young vets but, aside from Dansby, Crowder, and maybe W Allen, no leadership qualities. Many do not like Crowder. However, he is a guy who brings emotion to the game, and it does infect other players, as well as Phans. I have seen it countless times.
I would add a vet pass rusher, maybe someone like a Rasheed Brock or an OLB. I would also consider a vet WR.
Anyone else find it funny a guy named Southbeach created a thread called "Looking for a few old guys?" Anyone? Just me? Ok, carry on, then.
As mentioned before, we do have some vets. Bell, Dansby, Allen, Crowder, among others. You could even point to Brandon Marshall on offense. I don't think they'd hesitate to bring in older guys, but I don't see them spending much money on them.
