It's not a legitimate bid unless it is PMed to me.

There are. And if we go with your idea, then we will have the back and forth increases by 250K or so... eventually leading to bigger problems.

Trust me... years of experience tell me this is the best route to take in these circumstances.

Again, you set guidelines. Make it to where at a certain time you have to use $750,000 bid increments. I doubt anyone other than Manning is going to go for much more than 12 mil. You set 5 minute extensions per each bid and as it moves along through the night, you set shorter extensions. I doubt it would take more than 30 minutes total.

Again, all I am saying is it's sort of unfair that someone can just come in at the end with 10 seconds left and raise the bid by $250,000 and win it.

Everyone is knowingly going into this the same exact way.

You have three bids. If you're going to sit back and *****foot around, then that's your problem.

    Bid #1 - opening bid.
    Bid #2 - serious bid.
    Bid #3 - max bid.

It's that simple. If I am team B and I made my 2nd bid on Manning for $36M... And I am THAT worried about someone trumping me... then I bump up the bid to my max.

With regards to other bidders, they should have coughed up an extra $300,000 if they wanted the player that badly. With regards to the person who tendered and lost the player… well, that’s what the franchise tag and RFA tenders are for, to compensate the loss of a given player.

    This is perfectly fair.

So, what you are getting at is...pay more money than you may have to. So, when I want to buy a new car for $20,000, I should offer them $24,000 just to make sure I get it. That's wasting money and it lopsides deals too much in this league. For instance, if someone has a min of $12,000,000 on a player and they are scared of losing them, so they pm you their max of $15,000,000 then they lose $3mil for nothing and there goes another unrealistic contract.

I agree the last bid should win obviously, but someone can easily steal a player within 2 seconds by upping the bid 250,000. I think it's a waste of money for this league for teams having to PM their max, rather than just going back and forth.

Money is valuable in this league, especially come free agency and draft time. Why waste more when you potentially don't have to?

Maybe you guys don't comprehend what I am saying. It's just unfair and a waste of money.

The whole point is that you can avoid having your bid trumped by staying on top of things and seeing if someone actually forces you to go higher. If I bid x amount on Zach Miller and I see someone has upped my bid then I go to my max. This is poker, NFL style. Thats all there is too it.

Doesn't apply here. A car is a product with a manufacturer's suggested retail price. There is no "retail" in football contracts.

Not to mention teams in real life likely "overpay" pretty regularly.

That's what I am saying. If I bid on Joe and I see someone with 1 second left, placed a bid of $1mil more than me, I should be able to get a few minutes to up his bid.

You don't want to low ball anyway because most likely if its low enough the team with the rights will just match. You're not just trying to out bid the other players in the market you also want to make the GM that owns the rights to that player think twice about keeping him.

And like I said, its a poker game. If you think it will you bid it up a bit more. If not, then you dont touch the bid. Either you have confidence in the bid or you dont. If not you up it

Look at Lamarr Woodley. Someone bid $12 million on him and the Steelers owner is obviously not matching it (he actually said he won't match it). If someone else bids $12,250,000 with a few seconds left, then that's unfair for whoever set the 12 million mark.

That's still a waste of money. Free Agency shouldn't be based off of confidence. It should be strategic, not luck.

I'm not trying to start **** here. I am just trying to make the league as fair as possible. I highly doubt I will even be involved with any last second bidding or anything that I am talking about. I rather it be fair for everyone else.

I think a possible solution "for next time" (well let me say I think this current system works fine), but a possible different way of doing things is to have each player reserved by as many teams as would like to bid on him. Then there is a random order of preference built in to each player whereby the highest rated team gets the final opportunity to bid. For example, say we have Peyton Manning and five teams reserve the right to "negotiate" with him. GIK then comes in and assigns an order of preference (done by a randomizer program) to the five team list. So the team with the #5 seed places their first and only bid. Then #4 gets to decide if they want to beat that bid or not. Then #3 all the way up to #1. I think that's a "fair" way of deciding this for the anti ebay style folks out there.

That’s the $12 million dollar man’s problem. Should have bid $13 million.

    And no, that’s not unfair.

Well this isnt free agency; its restricted free agency. Its restricted for a reason. The transition players are the hardest for teams to decide because the team losing them gets nothing and they have to assume the high salary

Well just so its known. I'm the one who put the bid in for $12 Mil on Woodley(hopefully i don't have any enemies that want to out bid me just because they don't like me). The first bid on him was 9 Mil by whoever, I could of done 10 but I didn't want to give someone the chance to just one up me again so I went with my MAX bid on him. If someone out bids me then I'm fine with that because I'm at the absolute top point I'm willing to pay him. Also, I have to keep the Steelers in mind(they announced they won't match after my bid). I have to think of a number that will out bid everyone else and make the Steelers let him go.

BTW, this is not the time to tell me I over paid him.

it kinda simulates the NFL though, a player has an order of preference to the team he wants to go to... since we can't simulate that player's preference, it's the next best thing.
