The Dolphins drafted Chad Henne to come in and start. Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland inherited Beck, which is bad news for him. If they had a lot of confidence in him, they wouldn't have gone after Henne, who is the most experienced quarterback in this draft.

I think it's a safe bet that Beck never starts a game for Miami.

I said this in another thread.

If they felt Chad was their franchise QB they would have taken him with the first pick in the second. Unless they are so smart that they KNEW Chad would still be available with their next pick you don't pass on your guy.

More likely they will compete, and the best man will win.

Before some one says it, I know its an opinion of ONE person but what are your peoples thoughts on HIS opinion? Do you agree, disagree and why?

I doubt it, they more than likely saw Henne as great value at that spot. I question whether BPA was wise seeing that QB was the pick, but whatever. I don't think Beck is out of the picture by any means.

IMO, much will depend if the staff has liked what they have seen from Beck and what they see in Henne in the months to come before a decision about who starts is made.

I don't see the Henne pick as being prompted by a complete lack of confidence in Beck but it does point to some uncertainty about his ability to measure up.

I see this pick as one of opportunity. By all accounts, next year's QB class is slim and getting one of the top three QBs available this year where we did, just made good sense.

Time will tell and I would hope that all three QBs will be allowed to complete and that the nod will go to the guy who really gives us the best chance of winning.

We needed more QB's on the roster. Henne was available late in the 2nd, so we took him. I wouldn't read more into it than is there.

When I read this hashmark, I thought to myself. What if Henne beats out Beck this year for the second QB spot and Beck is the third while McCown starts this season? And then next year, Henne becomes full time starter and impresses. Where does that leave Beck?

    Colorado Dolfan ...dirty drownin' man?

Chad was BPA at 57 so they went with it. The possibility that he would still be there at 57 was very slim, but they still bypassed him at 32, knowing that they only really had Beck and McCown on the roster. That says a lot about the amount of confidence they have in Beck and/or McCown.

There will be a competition for the starting job and may the better man win.

I disagree, but I've been wrong this offseason more often than I care to recall.

The QB roster was lacking so it made sense to draft another one. Parcells is new to his position and his friend and mentor Ron Wolf's long time strategy was to draft QBs often. Sure they signed McCown but as was said by someone else, signing a McCown brother is the universal sign of QB troubles. McCown should wear an "use only in an emergency sign" around his neck because that's the only reason he should see the field. Beck has yet to prove anything and his age is concerning enough that drafting another QB makes sense.

The Dolphins draft seemed to be about value picking and I feel Henne was another such pick. It's unlikely the team felt both Henne and Brohm would be there at 57 after passing on both at 32 because were several teams in between that could have used a young QB.

I cannot imagine any organization looking at a late 2nd round pick as a day one starter. 4 years at Michigan is nice but how was his production, what were his flaws that caused him to fall? The biggest knock I've read about Henne is his inability to see the entire field. You're not going to be able to fix that in minicamps and pre-season. One could could counterpoint that under Henning the Dolphins will keep it simple so early on it will not be a big issue for him anyway.

Henne can be a starter but I think we'll get a long look at Beck because it is very beneficial to have QB value on your team so look for him to warm the bench his first year.

Beck will have a very small window to impress and it will be at mibnicamps. If he fails there he wont get any snaps this training camp and the battle will be between Henne and McCown. I am convinced our QB is going to be McCown all year unless he gets injured

I know a lot of people here like him, but I think the safest bet is that Beck is toast. If I had to bet, I would say that, unless Henne is injured, Beck won't be with the team at the start of the 2009-2010 season.

I think John Beck has the edge to start. Henne is good but I think Beck is better. I'm thrileld to have two guys that can play on our roster. We havent had a situation this good at qB in a long, long time.

I disagree, besides Beck and McCown who did Miami have at QB? They needed to add depth to that position, at 57 Miami got great value and they filled a need, gotta love a FO that makes those kinda moves. I don't believe there is a QB on our roster that will beat Beck out of the starting spot. I could be wrong, but that's how I feel based on what we know of our 3 QB's. I love the idea of adding competition to the QB position it will only make this team better, but I believe Beck has the most upside in both talent and smarts. If I'm wrong and Henne or McCown are best suited, so be it. I look forward to the battles to come and regardless of who my favorite is, I hope the best player wins the spot.

Also think about this Miami in their first 5 picks have focused their efforts on only one skill position and rest wet to the trenches, I think that speaks volumes about what this new staff wants to do. The old saying "build from the inside out" comes to mind and rings true.

i am probably one of the few that thinks beck is in trouble i know people are saying we need another qb and henne may have been the BPA at 57

henne i think will be starting for the fins if not next year the 2009 season

i like beck a lot i dont care who is under center as long as they get the job done and i would like to see beck get a shot under center with a revamped oline

i just think henne will be the qb soon enough

Thank you, basically this is how I see things. I have favorites, just like everyone else. I stand by those favorites, just like everyone else, but the bottom line is success. If that means the guy I wanted to win a job doesn't, but we are a better team for it. Then in the end to big picture is all that matters. You like to be right about players, based on you studies and your gut feelings, but even the big boys get them wrong, so I don't think people here should be offended if the players they want to start, don't win their jobs. You win some you lose some, but we all win when the team wins.

I think Beck is on a VERY short leash. If he doesnt have an eye-popping camp, he`s history. McCown will probably be the starter,at least for now.

i agree i would like to see beck at camp take hold of the position say IAM THE FRANCHISE QB

but if he struggles you have mccown who has been around and started before and henne another round 2 pick who bill is reportedly pretty high on

    i see either happening

1 beck improves and wins the starting job
2 beck fails to impress mccown gets the job
3 beck fails and bill throws henne out onto the field to start

Im even more convinced that John Beck is our starter..will be our starter...and will be for the next decade.

We will trade Chad Henne..who ends up being a darn good QB in his own right...for a first round pick in 2010.

    Thats my story....got a problem with it???:up::up:

I agree for the most part, but I don't really think that I want to see McCown get a fair shot. I hope he's little more than a stop gap for a few games until either Beck or Henne are ready. Barring a sudden epiphany, I don't see McCown as a legitimate starter for any NFL team.

To be brutally honest, I don't Beck is stepping onto an even playing field. The FO knows he's older than your average 2nd year QB, AND he's going to have to start over with a new set of coaches, plus, most importantly, he's not "their" guy.

However, he knows our current system better than any other QB on our roster by virtue of being on the roster since before the clean-up operation. So he's already steps ahead of the rest. If they plan on playing their best players, then whether or not Beck is "their" guy shouldn't even matter.

FTP, I agree completely with your assessment... The bottom line is that we needed anotherquarterback on the roster for this season. The problem with with the past regimes is that they haven't planned in advance for the future in any capacity...thus we've spent multiple 2nd round picks on QBs in trade and DL, OL in FA. The previous regimes have let the D get old without any regard for having guys behind Zach and JT, Surtain or Madison. If you want to see how it should be done, look at Pitts or NE and you'll see...all they do is let their older players move on, bring in guys they've drafted to replace them and continue to draft well and most importantly...continue to win...

Some fellas who know their Qb's don't like Henne the Qb, for myself, I like the pick, for the first time in 10 years, we have solid Qb prospects on the roster, since Danny retired, we have had scrubs and limited Qb's starting for us, the Henne pick along with the Beck pick finally shores that spot up for us.

If neither one pans out, we should run the "T" wing offense and not have a Qb at all...

I think it all depends. If both end up being good QBs, unless John Beck was significantly better than Henne, I'd have to guess we would hang onto Henne because of his age.

But may the best QB win! :hi5:

I could care less who starts personally.... I guess I prefer Beck right now but that could certainly change. I want the best player to start, and I want that player to win us 12 plus games per year and win the East every year. Anyone that does that gets my vote.

As I said in the other thread, Beck isn't going to get a fair chance to compete. More than likely it will be McCown starting now with Henne sitting on the bench this year and taking over the starting spot next year. Henne is just this organization's "guy", they brought him in and that's that.

With a new coaching staff and new offense, eventually, I don't really think there's going to be enough reps for 3 qbs. I think Beck and McCown will be competing for the starting position...the caveat is, if one of them looks totally ineffective, then Henne gets a look to see if he's ready to compete. I'm guessing that Beck and McCown will do enough to keep Henne on the bench, getting him ready to compete next year.

I think every first year QB should spend a season on the bench. They can learn the play book, get to see how NFL players prepare and compete., etc. etc.

Chad Henne was brought in to be our QB of the future imo. If we were just looking for depth we would have taken a guy in the 4th or something-Woodson, Booty, Brennen.

You dont take a QB early in the draft to sit his *** on the bench. Waste of a pick if you do. It may not be this year, but Henne IS the future of this team, not Beck.

I say this as a very lukewarm "fan" of the Henne pick, and a guy with no feelings toward Beck either way. IMO unless Henne fails, Beck will get traded next year for a pick relating to his value.

The only things I know about the other qbs is what i've read here. I still think Beck deserves a chance. Last season he had bad coaching, bad o-line, was put in, taken out etc. etc. He never have a chance to show what type of player he can be. Didn't he only play some in a few games? Plus, his determination is great and I'd like to see him able to atleast go out and be able to play and see what he can do. Hopefully the coaching etc. will be better this year.

Beck does deserve a chance, but unfortunately he was a pick of the folks what got themselves fired ;) Henne wasn't drafted where he was to provide competition, he was drafted to be a future starter for the team. Beck is not going to get a fair chance to compete, only because he wasn't picked by Sparano, Ireland and Parcells. That's just the way it works in the NFL.

We hear about how this can turn out to be a great thing because of what happened in Cleveland and San Diego, but everyone forgets that Rivers and Quinn were drafted because the front office were convinced that their starters weren't the answer. Unique to the Dolphins in this proposed scenario is the fact that Beck wasn't even drafted by the Dolphins management that's in place now, and they certainly don't have any loyalty to him whatsoever. Hopefully Beck will get traded to someone with a shot and not in our division. I wish him the best.

You must really not think much of our new FO and coach if you think they would not give John Beck a fair chance just because they didn't pick him. Especially if John Beck proves to be the best QB on the roster. They will start the QB that has the best chance to win the game. It's really that simple.
