Nice, glad to have him back and hope he unseats Berger at Center, but for sure he can handle RG from Day #1.
Three years? Not sure how I feel about that. Two years probably would have been better. Any word on if he’ll compete at center?
He probably wasn't going to sign for 2. I imagine they structured it ok if he needs to be cut before that third. Still gives him incentive to be on good behavior and he was our best interior lineman last year. Good to have him back - didn't really want to need 3 interior guys.
To me, RI at Center will help with the huge NT's in the division, now we need 2 G's..or John Jerry to realize he ain't in Mississippi anymore
I like Marcus Canon and DeMarcus Love as college tackles that could kick inside at the next level... Also, Robert Gallery is a free agent, but he's not very durable.
I don't want Incognito at Center. He wasn't good the game he played there. I want him at RG. I'm all for upgrading the Center position, if one is available. However, I don't believe Incognito to be that upgrade. Richie at LG wasn't a good fit. He isn't a puller. Putting him at RG with Vernon will make that portion of the line massive and a good place to churn out 3-4 yards.
He's also Tom Cable's guy, he will wind up in Seattle. As for where RI plays, his natural position is RG, but I like him at Center, but either way he is not a LG.
Great news!!! We have signed the players we HAD to in Incognito and Soliai. Keeping Garner also helps. Our draft just got a bit easier.
Putting him next to Carey has to help Carey. How many guys has he had to play next to in the past few years? Or, RI at C if Jerry can play. Or...................... I love having options.
That would be great, but we will probably have to trade up a bit to get him. And I would have no problem with that.
Interesting, one of the few players I'd take over Hartline, but as they point out, he is dinged often.
I would actually prefer Hartline over MSW. Hartline is only in his third season, has been here in our system the entire time, and has made significant strides from rookie season to last year.
Hard to tell what the new Cap will look like, but I'd think neither were break the bank signings, even Soliai's 12 million. At most we were at 103 million I'd doubt we broke 120 million between the two of them.
Im really surprised Richie didn't explode this season. He played pretty well, and was pretty well disciplined. Nice to get his deal done I suppose
Bro he played one game at center. When he played at center our running backs were getting more openings. If Vince Wilfolk gave big props to Ritchie that is enough for me. I am very happy he is back with the Dolphins.
Considering Incognito played two seasons at LT at Nebraska, as well as C, I'm not sure he has a "natural" position. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=1076 I also hope this doesn't mean Sparano thinks he's plugged both holes at G with he and Garner/Jerry. If so, we're in for a long, long season. I'd try Incognito at C, but I really think he'd be better served as depth to be honest.
I'm not so sure there. Both of them are decent players and it is probable that they will improve this season (if there is one ). I don't think our O-line is as bad as a lot of people here make it out to be. We have a very young O-line right now, and they should get stronger, faster and smarter every year. They are already familiar with our system and players. If we get another O-lineman I hope it is a later round draft prospect. We have much bigger needs than the OL, imo.
Wow, as a freshman first team All American FWAA freshman team. That is a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong list of college accolades. Like really man, wow. Sounds like the young man now has his head screwed on tightly. Congratulations , that is an accomplishment. Many people try that their entire life and fail.
It's a new offensive system this year, I think any rookie would have ample time to learn. The G-C-G play last year was very bad, there's just no other way around it. Incognito might fill one spot between C or RG, he is NOT a LG. John Jerry certainly left a lot to be desired, maybe he'll improve, but I'd rather not take my chances waiting around for that without at least bringing in some competition. We definitely still need a pulling LG - there's not one of those on our roster as of now.
His natural position is C; thats where he played in college and HS. He hasnt been given a chance there in the pro's by the rams or phins which is silly since playing in space is neither his strength or something he feels comfortable with but his work in a short area is solid. He is strong and had good technique in college at C. He was definitely rusty the one game he played there but I wouldnt judge a player based on just one game at a position he hasnt played in 3-4 years And for the record I love the move. I liked Richie...he played respectably well playing out of position and PFF had him rated as an upper echelon LG (9th)
Eh, that was college bro, with the Rams he played a season at Center, the rest of the time was at Guard, RG iirc. He got himself into hot water in NB and went somewhere else like Oregon St (?) Sparano is such an Oline snob there is no chance that is the only two moves they make, a guy with a bum foot and a RG/C? Would not surprise me at all to see Gabe Carimi at #15.
Possible o-line next year: A. LT-Long LG-Garner C-Rookie RG-Incognito RT-Carey B. LT-Long LG-Garner C-Incognito RG-Carey RT-Rookie C. LT-Long LG-Rookie C-Incognito RG-Jerry RT-Garner
You are forgetting Garner. He is a very solid player for us. Also, look at the two teams in the Super Bowl this year. Both the Packers and steAlers O-lines were sub-par. OL should not be a major priority for us right now. And Jerry? He was injured dude. Give the guy a chance.
God I hope not. The Packers And steAlers didn't need a good O-line to make it to the Super Bowl did they?
They also have All Pro Qb's, our problem is we cannot even run the ball effectively on offense, unless Henne finds his inner Aaron Rodgers chances are good we will need a great Oline to..run the ball.
Incognito went to Oregon, but wasn't eligible to play there per NCAA rules, but I do remember that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richie_Incognito I think you have to look at him at C, based on what's available when Free Agency happens and what's in the draft. I think RG might be the best spot, but I still feel like it's a disservice to just hand him a starting job.
Both the teams in the Super Bowl have mobile QBs who make plenty of plays with there feet. Chad Henne is not that. As for Garner, yeah, he's okay, but do you count on him coming back from injury 100%? I don't think you can, but you can certainly let him compete for a starting spot. I just don't see him as athletic enough versus say, Mike Pouncey, to be an effective LG.
And we are back to where you and everyone else knows that I think our QB sucks and that should be our number one priority this offseason. We have now come full circle.
The cycle is now complete! Which is why to me it makes more sense to add speed to the offense but to add better Lb talent for the Defense, the offense alone will not be good enough to carry us..unless we run the ball well.
