As per www.jbscouting.com... http://www.jbscouting.com/index.php/interviews/3-interviews/1638-jt-miami-visit I did a YouTube Video of Julius just now, and thought I would share. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKgTpd3EPDU Enjoy.
Looks to have good size and hands on the vid. Can see him putting a bit more muscle on his frame. Was his best 40 a 4.68?
4.57 or so wasn't it? Refuse to get excited over Thomas becoming a Phin after the hooplah over Jimmie Graham last draft, not gonna..do it..
First DJ Williams, now Julius Thomas. Happy dance! Add Jordan Cameron & Virgil Green to the mix and I'm willing to bet $100 that one of them will be a Dolphin.
Probably just a little more comfortable. But remember, this is a guy that hadn't played football in 7 years prior to his walking on at Portland State for the 2010 season and getting voted All Big Sky. His learning curve has been tremendous, for him to look as natural in many ways as the guys that have been playing football non-stop the last 8 years. So it wouldn't be outrageous to think that every fortnight that goes by with him working with coaches on his technique and ability, he just keeps learning more and more and showing it. This is why I liked Jimmy Graham last year. The progress Jimmy made was ridiculous, for only one year playing football, and you could tell he was a smart guy. Sean Smith, same thing. Sam Shields, even though he's not a smart guy, he hadn't been switched from WR to CB very long before he showed tremendous potential there, and one of the things I liked about him was how far he came in such a short amount of time, thought it bode well for the future. I think Julius Thomas is going to be another Andrew Quarless at the minimum...and possibly more.
I still like Cameron more, but I wouldn't be remotely upset if we landed Thomas. Some people look at his inexperience as a negative, but I like it because, like yourself, it gives me a better indication of what he's capable of. I'm curious if this "playmaking" approach will be a common theme come draft day or if it's more exclusive to TE. I'm going with 1 playmaker at TE, WR, and RB. Thanks for the vid by the way, Chris.
He looks like a 6th or 7th round project with some pass catching ability at this point..maybe later..boy better learn to how to train his body for the NFL, your not playing on a court anymore...poor footwork on the line..
What's his draft stock looking like right now? I remember watching him a little at the senior bowl and wanting to look at him some more, but I forgot his name. If he's projected in the 6th-7th, I wouldn't be opposed to drafting someone like Kendricks, Stocker, Williams, or Green in the 4th-5th and taking a chance on Thomas in the 6th or 7th. Then, we could have Thomas compete with Shuler and Mastrud for the 3rd TE position. I wouldn't mind that at all, tbh. I am all for taking offensive players this draft. All for it.
If you wait until the 6th to take Julius Thomas, you'll probably have waited too long. To me, he's clearly in the Top 8 at the Tight End position. Last year, 12 Tight Ends went before the 6th round. The year before, 11 Tight Ends went before the 6th. The average number of Tight Ends drafted prior to the 6th round over the last five years is 11.4. The lowest number of Tight Ends drafted prior to the 6th round was in 2007, which is funny because that Draft featured the likes of Greg Olsen, Zach Miller, Matt Spaeth, Kevin Boss, Dante Rosario and Brent Celek. I wonder if pundits also lamented how "poor" that class of Tight Ends was, like they have this one. My guess is Julius could go in the 4th round, 5th at the latest.
I agree. He's too intriguing of a prospect to wait till the 6th. Someone will be enamored by his upside and jump the gun in at least the 5th.
