Chris, great job on NFLN. Gotta say - I'm none to thrilled about any QB coming out in this year's draft, but if I had to choose, it would certainly be Mallet.
Just to add on my previous post - the biggest worry about Mallett (aside for POTENTIAL character issues) is his very Kerry Collins-like release. He has a very slow delivery. As far as the character concerns - Marino had them coming out as well (drugs). I'm just really nervous about this QB class.
His release is nothing like Kerry Collins. Mallett has a nice over the top deliver with no pause on the back end.
Drugs or no drugs, I think that Ryan Mallett will be the NFL's next Ryan Leaf. I don't see the Dolphins wasting a pick on him, especially in the first round. Perhaps if he is still on the board when the Dolphins draft in the seventh round, they could take a chance on him. At that point in the draft, even if he is the next Ryan Leaf, no one would care. Sparano and Ireland know their jobs are on the line and I don't see them risking their jobs by selecting Ryan Mallett and expecting him to be the Dolphins answer at the QB position.
Didn't say it was identical. But he has a slow, looping delivery. There doesn't have to be a pause at the back end to be slow. Fact is, his release is slow enough to give the corners in the NFL a chance to jump the pass.
