Another draft, another wimpy, flaccid, pick, for goodness sakes can we put the bank heist shootout from Heat, some John Wayne flicks, and Scarface on Jeff Ireland's Netfilx "to rent list"? Sheesh, what a ball less, soul less organization the Dolphins have become, in 08 Pennington was a leader of men, in 2011 the motto seems to be"for God's sake do not **** this up". This is not a charge of the light brigade type of regime, it is run by CPA's who know the history of success or failure of a given position based on it's draft position multiplied by physical metrics and add...folks will get the point. I'm quite tired of bunting, I'm quite tired of the soup and soft soap they are selling, act like you have a pair Ireland.
I think most of us wanted a QB. That's our biggest need. But interior OL was trouble all last year. We got a very good player. OL is never sexy. And you'd wish we could have gotten a bit lower. But he's a good player and he's more likely to make a positive immediate impact than the QB. If he can be as good a guard as his brother a center, it'll be worth it. Look at the Jets and all of their former #1's up front. It ain't over yet. Still a ways to go and free agency. Let's see what happens.
Not popular, but I'm happy. Hate the example, but the jets beefed up their line wiith high draft picks, and the result is it helps make mark sanitize look like a very good QB when he's not that good. This will make Henne and the offense a better unit. Let's pray for a miracle that Mallett plummets to the 3rd round
Eh, I like Henne (though he frustrates to no end) and Thigpen more than most, but suspect we missed legit opportunity today Bro. But hey: He did promise to work extra hard on that whole snapping the ball properly thingy. Disagree, they had Sanchez whom they paid heavily for, and inherited D'Brick and Mangold, what Ireland did was decide that those whom do not handle the ball are more important than those who do handle the ball, the Jets coupled #1 picks on the Oline (even though we semi own them) with playmakers, something Ireland is singularly incapable of doing..so far. every yr Bro, every frickin' yr I hear this.
I'm approaching this as though Pouncy will play guard. I watched the SEC all year. He can't shotgun snap. Really doesn't matter to my point. My point is that the Jets (Tannenbaum drafted Brick and Mangold) make the OL a priority and it worked out for them. I don't know if they decided one was more important than the other. They could just as easily have stuck to their board. Who did you want at 15? I'm not saying don't criticize this draft. I'm just gonna wait until it's over to do it. But I like the pick, so I'm not down on it. Trust me, I was fine with cleaning house in the offseason. Still think we should have and won't be surprised if we do it after the season.
Well Bro, I was NOT inf avor of cleaning house this offseason, I think Sparano and Co do a good job of Coaching, the problem is they want to be adventerous with cheap players, but to ignore finding players who can make plays who cost to much. what happens is they spend premium resources on cheap positions, but refuse to spend those resources on expensive positions, Irish needs to sack up and spend more on those who handle the football instead of spending heavily on foundations but then going cheap on the roof. Has Ireland had the cajones to come out in front of the fans and go through the whole "it all starts up front" spiel?
I have to ask again, who do you feel they should have taken with the 15th pick, assuming they couldn't get a good deal to move down?
Fair question, I thought we should have went Mallet, or Bowers, or Kerrigan or Ingram and taken Wisniewski or O'Dowd in the 3rd rd as trades cannot be assumed. What Ireland did was try to remove as much doubt as he could via Pouncey, and he did, but in the AFCE you will never accomplish anything that way, Alex Mack was the #21 overall and the Browns are still terrible, and the AFCE is as tough..Ireland had to sack up, take an Ingram or whomever and toss caution..6 inches or so into the wind, he'd never completely toss it to the wind.
We need both, Misi had a multi week sack drought, R+R has reached the end of the line as well. But hey, Pouncey via his agent did promise to work really hard on the whole snapping the ball properly thing.... Stank *** ***** Ireland sit down, or stand up, just don't wobble.
We need better guards than Richie Incognito, Nate Garner, and John Jerry as well. Koa Misi played OLB better as a rookie than any of those 3 played G for the Miami Dolphins. I would've been happy with Ingram, but I feel they're targeting a bigger back (than Ingram) in the draft and DeAngelo Williams or Ahmad Bradshaw in free agency. Pouncey's going to be a LG, so I doubt he'll need to work on his snaps as much, though they did improve A LOT by season's end. I think that's something that you can be trained on over time, a non-issue in my book.
Which is nice, but Pouncey is under the impression that he is playing Center... "If" trades cannot be assumed then singing FA's cannot be assumed either. Nope, Center, how nice, the most highly drafted Center, with the shakiest resume in ohh idk..a decade. Sack up Irish, that man is suffering from a severe lack of testosterone..
Mallett and Bowers were passed over by every GM that made a pick today. You're seriously going to criticize Ireland for not drafting one of those guys at 15? Talk about misjudging the market.
This. Pouncey isn't sexy...... but if he's a part of a bigger vision------ say DeAngelo Williams (who would like to play here), a stud TE in the 3rd round, and Mike Sims Walker (who would like to play here), then it comes together quite nicely IMO.
I've been rewatching games. If Incognito can stay going north rather than needing to pull (like we had him doing a good bit last season), he's a freaking mauler. Incog at Center driving guys off the ball with Pouncey next to him will be extremely effective. This just made our ground game MUCH improved. We just needed a way to move Richie to Center..... and we got it.
Looks like as of tonight Henne is STILL the starter I wanted Quinn. If only he would have been around for one more. Bolster the interior OL..... Good deal. Not bad. We would have that pick early tomorrow if not for the Marshall deal.
I do agree with this. Richie is not good in space. He reminds me of Rex Hadnot in that sense. With the league going 3-4 I do think Richie would be better at center. Pauncy does look good pulling and with 3-4 I do not see Miami pulling their center much. Ireland did say that Pauncy will be center, however things can change.
I agree with many people about Henne and I would have loved to see a guy who can push him. However I am not going to complain because Miami drafted a guard who many people have said he will go to many probowls when he is done.
I am not giving up on Jerry. The guy got sick during TC and hurt during the year. I am hoping he is working his *** off now to get better. However I do not like writing a guy off because of a rookie season. Quarterback shouldn't be the only position that needs some patience.
Dangelo Williams will be a RFA under 2010 rules, if we dont get a RB over the next few days, pray that a new CBA deal is made.
I'd betcha a 6-pack of your choosing that he'll end up at LG unless Richie Incognito gets hurt or attacked by a pack of wild dogs and is never seen from again. *The caveat being if they sign someone like Dahl, Yanda, or even Mankins depending on what shakes out there. Then I'd by us both a 6 pack to celebrate.
Could you imagine Long-Pouncey-Incognito-Dahl-Carey???!! A mauling center and 2 guards with good feet. Sign me up. lol.

I wanted Mallett as well. But two defensive players? One of whom is sliding because of medical concerns? A year after they took Koa Misi? You don't think they'd have been lynched?
Well, every GM in football passed over Tom Brady. So who "misjudged" that market? The fact still remains that the Fins FO does not value the position of QB in a QB driven league. They are going into a season where their starter was benched twice last season — and he is their BEST option at QB. Sure they we either overpay for some veteran in a trade (and then have no ammunition to move up in next years draft) or try to plug it with Free Agency - Marc Bulger, Alex Smith, Brady Quinn - do those name excite you? It was the "safe", ***** move.
Well Muck, the case can be made that the defense still needs pieces fare more easily than the case can be made that we needed a Center. One of the other things that bothers me about this is the assumption (not by you of course) that fans know nothing, that we just cheer or boo and do not know the game of football, then I recall that those who were outraged over the Ginn pick, were completely correct. Here is another good question, how could the Patriots rob the Saints for a #2 this yr, and a #1 next yr, for Ingram and with a much lower pick we hear that the phones did not ring?
The defensed needed a part-time, rotational OLB at 15 (and the ones you listed padre a 4-3 DEs, not 3-4 OLBs) more than they needed someone who's going to come in and play every snap on offense? Please.
From what we learned in the draft pick, had things fallen the way Ireland wanted them to, the pick would've been Jake Locker, then Christian Ponder, then Pouncey. I think for the sake of the Dolphins it's a damn good thing it ended up being Pouncey.
