    Absolutely inexcusable.
I would honestly go as far to say that this is a fire able offense, if there is not more to this story.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2011 Miami Dolphins...

All other first round picks received their playbooks
and people still believe in Sparano and Co.

How incompetent can a franchise be??

Belichick got his players their playbooks and probably got his players our playbooks in the process

    Wasn't enough time??????

Don't give me excuses, give me results!!!!!!!! In the real world, Daboll would be fired and if he wasn't, then Sparano, and if not him, then Ireland.

Thats about as lame as the ole "my dog ate my homework"

Sparano says Dolphins didn’t distribute playbooks

Last week, with the lockout temporarily lifted, teams had an opportunity to hand out playbooks to players. For teams with new offensive coordinators — and thus new playbooks — it was a welcome break to the prohibition on contact with players.

Amazingly, not every team took advantage of the opportunity.

According to Andrew Carter of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Dolphins didn’t distribute new offensive playbooks. Per Carter, coach Tony Sparano said there wasn’t enough time for new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to distribute the playbooks.

Opie McDalton has our playbook. Maybe he can 'The Book of Eli' it back to our guys.

Side note--- anyone thing the Bengals & Dolphins' offense might look eerily similar this year?

Yawn. Who is Andrew Carter and how does he know that the playbooks weren't distributed? I think it's more likely that his source, if he even has one, is covering his ***, especially after Henne slipped up earlier. Unless you're one of those people just looking for a reason to criticize, I don't see why this "story" would matter.

If the rest of the league has playbooks, and the Miami Dolphins do not, they are at a severe disadvantage.

Why would Sparano blatantly lie? Especially about something that is basically hanging Daboll out to dry? Why would he want to make his new OC look bad, if in all reality the players have the playbook?

Are you suggesting that NFL teams are giving their playbooks to players that may not even be on the team next season? There is way too much uncertainty about NFL rosters, and teams are so paranoid about playbooks, I don't see any team giving out anything of real value.

    Before free agency?

So you're saying they should have drawn up an entire playbook, with the hopes there would be a 12 hour window in which they could give it to their first round draft pick the day he was drafted, without knowing who their QB will be, or who their RBs will be, basically without knowing what a lot of their offensive roster will look like. All this from an OC that will have a playbook that no other teams in the NFL have seen before.

So what everyone is saying is they don't want the playbook tailored to our personnel, right?

No I am suggesting players who are under contract with the team, and players who will be under contract with the team (draft picks) should already have their playbook.
Heck Jim Harbaugh even gave Alex Smith one. So yes, any player who they have a good feeling will be back next year should probably have their damn playbook.
Especially QB's who need all the help they can get.

I'm not defending anyone. I'm just saying that there is too much uncertainty out there to give out documents that are normally treated as top secret. These players are in an uncontrolled environment. You hear stories of teams sending spies to training camps, I wouldnt be surprised if they try the same with these organized workouts. I'm sure Pouncey will get the information he needs to workout until the labor situation is resolved, but I doubt they're going to give out a detailed playbook, or that one exists until they have more information regarding the roster.

Would you give Tyler Thigpen a playbook in this circumstance?

Then what about the other teams in the NFL? They all rushed to get out their playbook on Friday morning their rookies. Once one player has it, they all can. Sparano has said the Dolphins "didn't have time."

If all other 31 NFL teams did it, the Dolphins only excuse is incompetence.

Where does it say all 31 other teams did it? Where does it say those are the actual play books they'll be given in TC? How do we know some didn't just give out last season's playbook?

    Here is my logic.
1)It is widely reported that the only likely 1st Round Pick without a playbook is Mike Pouncey.
2)Miami Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano stated that they didn't hand out any playbooks on Friday (which was the only day which teams were able to meet with players since the offseason began.)

Therefore the Miami Dolphins players have no playbooks.

With a new OC running a new offense...how is this not a problem? The Dolphins don't have a last years playbook, it will be new terminology and plays.

    And here is my logic:

    1. "widely reported" doesn't really mean anything
    2. Most teams that did distribute playbooks, most likely distributed last year's playbook, if they distributed a playbook at all. For all we know, they handed out a conditioning calendar, and a couple of generic concepts
    3. We have no idea who our QB or RBs will be, which makes it hard to have a finalized playbook
    4. The fact that this will be a new offense, places an even higher priority on maintaining the utmost discretion when giving out the offensive playbook
    5. There is a very good chance Tony Sparano is bull****ting us, and that he's on the phone with Pouncey now, and Jake Long is passing out the appropriate information to the players that need it

If sparano says,we aren't distributing them for fear they leak, sure.

He said, "we fracked up." Or something like that.

theres no way the FO didnt give out playbooks they should have been ready already for when the lockout lifted. i have been the biggest supporter of this regime but i cant back them on this if its true. but for real tho theres no way that the books werent passed out.

  31. Samphin

Tyler isn't under contract with the team. Everyone who is, and the first round draft pick whose rights we own, should have been given a playbook. And yes, it is highly guarded, but there is somewhat of a precedent for this. Players who are cut during training camp, for example, know our playbook and are often picked up by rival teams to try and figure out what they know. Players who are cut from teams mid-season as well.

If need be, you change some of the signal calls up to help mask whatever an opponent may know about it. The fac tthat they didn't get playbooks out in time is pretty piss poor if you ask me. It shows how ill prepared they are and how ill prepared they most likely will be.

Does not matter if play books were handed out or not. There is no way they players could decipher them with out the coaching staff.

Ah so your one of those that believes everything he reads in the media. Despite every coach asked at the draft stated they didn't get the rooks their draft class. Despite Sean Payton being on record that he didn't get playbooks out to people.

How many bs media rumors do people buy around here on a daily basis. Seems like at least 1 a day that's always been shown to be far overblown by the fanbase shortly later.

no offense, some of you are just making too much of this. A playbook isn't all that important. these guys have been playing football their entire lives, outside of terminology, its all the same.
