http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/04/26/2011-quarterback-player-projections-ppr-rankings/ Oh boy how badly would that suck if it played out like that? Beck barely behind Henne per PFF's projections?
Ouch. Well, can't say Henne has really had a performance that should make him be higher on the list. Hopefully he proves he can be a top QB this year.
I'm a big fan of PFF but some of the names ahead of Henne on that list are pure comedy: 12- Stafford, more like 12 games missed due to injury 16- Tebow 17- Fitzpatrick 19- Campbell 21- Garrard 22- McCoy 23- Ponder Only Tebow & McCoy will throw more INTs? Wow, even w/ a non existent run game Henne was in the mid 80's until his WR and OL fell apart late last year. I dont see the logic behind these rankings at all.
Hasselbeck? Daboll hated Holmgren’s WCO influence in Cleveland, he’s not going to advocate for a WCO quarterback. And Daniel Thomas isn’t getting 300 carries, nor would that particularly help Chad Henne become a top 10 QB. Anyway, as pointed out, these are fantasy football projections...
IMO Henne will end up between 15 and 25. I don't think he has any area of his game that is elite enough to get him into the top 5 or 10 over the course of the whole season. I think that with better play calling and a run based attack, that he will be closer to 15 than 25.
And? This is what their mathematical models came up with SB 19 td's and 18 int's or vice versa What interests me more is Henne's number of passing attempts, close to 600 or 38 or so per game which is too high imho. That and with Daboll's new offense we have no idea what it will look like, which is way different from 2008 when what Henning did was well known, in 2011 will DThomas have his projected 259 carries, or will he have a a hillis like 270 carries?
Well, it is yr #3 which is typically either a jump up yr, or a crash and burn yr, and if there were "elite" categories for toughness I think he would rank along with good accuracy on the short and middle range stuff. As for the projections, keep in mind folks, people pay money to subscribe to such services and we are only seeing the most basic of projections, personally I think Henne does better in 2011 if he wins the starting job.
And, they include QB's rushing yardage and TD's, Not a strength of Henne's. The first number (598) DB, is Drop Backs. they have him for 538 attempts.
Thats not entirely accurate. I'd be willing to make a rather large bet we'll see zone blocking + stretch plays, outside zone runs, belly plays and counters from Daboll. Also, IIRC Daboll likes to run those deep digs, which is one route Henne actually does well to hit with accuracy IMO. We may not know exactly everything he's going to do, but we have a good idea of some of the stuff he'll do.
I don't think it's year 3 for QBs. I think that the better number to look at is 1000 pass attempts. At that point the game generally starts to slow down or doesn't. Of course that often happens after about three years of playing. I just think people get confused and say year 3 even if the QB sat one or two years. He's just under that 1000 attempt mark now so this will be a an incredibly telling year for him. If he manages that mid 80s level, then he will be a nice place holder while we look for the guy with franchise potential. If not, we'll be looking for anything to fill the spot.
Well, what I had in mind was whether or not we see more 3 Wr or 2 Wr with a Te split out in the slot looks and just more passing in general, or if we will see more of the pound the ball approach with the Oline ostensibly "fixed"? They project Henne with 539 passing attempts or 33 per game, to me Henne should be under 30 per game and running the ball those extra 50 times?
I like the fact that Henne is rated ahead of Sanchez, but in fairness to the Jets princess how in the hell is Beck rated ahead of him??
That is what I had in mind Rafi, what conclusions can be drawn about Henne overall, to me 20 starts is the line on the floor, once a Qb starts 20 games chances are good you know what you have as that is a season and a qtr of football, 2 full offseasons etc. I happen to think if Henne does hit that mid 80's mark and the running game re-establishes itself, we will have a successful season on offense.
I agree that that would most likely result in a successful offensive season. Our overall success would depend on the development of the D. We'll still be looking for that franchise QB, but at least our QB wouldn't be costing us games and even winning a few for us.
Franchise Qb is a mythical beast Rafi, how many are there in the NFL..3..maybe 4? Manning/Brady/Brees/Rivers? Imho more efficiency is needed out of the Qb position rather than go snipe hunting for a Franchise Qb. "If" Henne can hit his level, a sort of Jim Kelly, then we can look elsewhere to fill some holes imho. I love Henne's toughness, he reminds me very much of Kelly in that regard.
I don't know. Henne had 490 last year, with 3 games of 15,16, and 18. He should have better weapons, being more familiar with Marshall, hopefully no injuries, and Gates and Clay should add something. A lot is going to depend on who we add to the running game, and how Thomas pans out.
Did we win the games with under 20 passes? And keep in mind not only were things such as rushing TD's down in 2010, so were rushing attempts, from 509 in 2009 to 445 in 2010, what I'm thinking is if those 74 more plays were running plays that averaged 4.5 or more per carry the offense would have performed much better, in 2011 we have to rekindle the running game imo. Banged that drum all offseason to me that is such an obvious conclusion the chatter about a Qb is almost silly.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/post/_/id/20303 I would definitely add Roethlisburger and ofc the Super Bowl winning QB Aaron Rodgers to that list. These are the established guys. You could also argue for Ryan, Flacco, Freeman, Vick, Romo, Schaub and Manning the Younger as well. The "Sanchize" is borderline imo, not very impressive stats, but still quite young, and he has been to back to back Conference Championships. While those certainly were not all or even mostly due to him, he did have a rather torrid stretch of late game heroics, and frankly I seriously doubt they would have gone to the champ game with, say, Kellen Clemmons or Mark Brunnell starting. Bradford (youth) and Stafford (injuries) are 2 guys who could also become elite quite quickly. If you are looking for Hall of Fame, you are looking at Manning/Brady, with Big Ben and Rodgers having potential. Franchise QB is just a guy you feel good going to war with, a guy who can steal wins (like manning against us last year), make the most of their surrounding cast, overcome adversity and consistently put points on the board. I do not think the concept of a franchise QB is a mirage or unattainable.
Rothlessberger has terrible super bowls typically and earlier in his career they were a run heavy offense. Which beggars the question, what is a "franchise" Qb? What does that mean..exactly? That is one of the issues here imo, so and so is a "franchise" Qb..by what measurement? Didn't Matt Flynn step in and play well when Rodgers went down? Kolb did well enough in philly to have a first rd pick asked for him, what does "franchise qb" mean..exactly? Potential? What does that mean? Potential to do what?
If Ponder out performs Henne we can all wonder "What If"....I hope he doesnt but would it really shock anyone if he did?
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8834/situational;_ylt=AiWsdtwcZMezDCZh1XURBh7.uLYF That is interesting: Henne is terrible in the 4th qtr 3 Td's and 8 int's Henne is a good Qb when playing catchup: 9 Td's 7 int's Henne is bad when playing with a lead: 2 TD's and 5 int's Henne is good in the 3rd qtr: 4 td's 0 int's Seems to me we really, really, do not want Chad Henne throwing the football in the 4th Qtr when we have a lead...
Franchise QB is simple for me. It's what the organization is willing to invest in the player. If the organization is willing to dole out long term, big dollar contracts, then they view that player as a franchise player. Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Schaub, Tony Romo, and Ben Roethlisberger are franchise players. They're not hitting the FA market any time soon.
GA yu disappoint me! IIRC you were a Beck fan and I thought you'd get a kick out of seeing his name as the starter in DC and what sort of numbers he would be projected to put up?
Ryan:0-2 in the playoffs Romo:1 playoff win Rodgers: 2-3 in the playoffs (could be wrong on that one though) That is the metric for a "franchise qb"?
So if Henne hits a sort of Jim Kelly level.....a guy that made the HOF we can look elsewhere....I agree but this is a extremely high level to aim for isn't it?
Far be it for me to disappoint you padre. Johnny will do much better than that imo. The word in most of the Redskin forums is that He will do no worse than Gross out and more than likely better. IPOF those guys seem more than willing to give him a chance. Plus THEY think that Miami will be jumping all over McNabb, I laugh at that thought! What with the Skins playing us in November I can't wait to see THAT game and really hope John will be the starter there. At the very least Shanny has not thrown him under the bus like Cam Cameron did both here and at the Ravens. By all accounts the Shanny's like him alot and they sat him the whole year to let him learn Kiles offensive playbook. He was named the Backup when they sat McNabb. Gross was not resigned yet both Gross and John are holding lockout meetings for the team which includes the draftees. I see no reason for John to not be given every chance to do well and am pulling for him, as you well know!
Not as high as you'd think, Kelly made the HoF on the back of the 4 SB appearances, his regular season numbers would look like: 3,500 yds 25 tds 18 int's Henne's 2010 season: 3,301 15 td's 18 int's
A 10 td difference is huge, thats the separation between elite Qbs and good Qbs, big difference. Not sure if you watched Kelly perform against us for years but he's lightyears ahead of Henne, I mean its not even close enough to talk about it. I would settle for Henne being 70% as good as Kelly, I think we could win a lot of games with him if he was that good. He made the HOF off of 4 Superbowl appearance.....um yeah thats kind of the way it works.
Thurman Thomas drove that team FFs72, 10 more TD's in a full season is less then 1 additional TD per game, the Int's are the difference, Henne needs to add 10 Td's or so, and delete 3 int's while throwing them. Possible, who knows though?
I've seen driftwood that was less washed up than McNabb.. I suspect in the old days he would have been a backup in SF ala Steve Bono. Good to know as I had Grossman as a darkhorse for us this offseason, if he is working out in DC he must think he has a contract coming. I always liked Beck, thought he had tools that just did not show on the field or in practices, but that was 4 yrs ago..4!!!!
Thomas was awesome, god knows he lived off screen passes against our defense but Kelly ran one of the all time best NFL offenses in the no huddle for years at a pro bowl level. He deservedly got elected to the HOF and there simply hasn't been a single indicator that Henne possesses his level of talent. A little less than 1 TD more per game last year and we'd have contended for the Superbowl Padre. I was a big Henne supporter and always hope for the best for our Qbs but I have to say I'm not that optimistic about Henne next year.
