So what you're saying is his "forced retirement" had nothing to do with his performance as an OC? His ineptitude was as obvious as day.
If you want to base your current season's play calling on what you did the previous year rather than the first 5 games of the current one, then that's all you. Personally, I could care less what we did in an unrelated prior year.
Dupree, you cant put anything on the QB position thru the first 6 games, relative to a fair development plane of a 2nd year starter, he has exceeded that plane by far...of course Henning is to blame in that scenario, his play calling in that scenario was ridiculously passive, unimaginative, and brutally disrespectful to the QB and his skill players, especially how terrible both backs have been up til that point in the season...Give the freakin kid a chance to do somethin..if you dont think that is starting to rub people the wrong way that you need to tune it tothe human nature side of this game.
his forced retirement was definatly deserved, however I do not believe he was the only problem. I also question how much of his "ineptitude" was caused by having henne as his quarterback as well as the problem with the line and the new information that I learned after the season that Ricky and Ronnie were terrible at breaking tackles in the second level. Add in the horrible field position from special teams and that is a lot for any OC to have to deal with. Especially with a FO that traded two 2nd round picks for a wide receiver that he didn't even want. Which honestly should have been enough to change the OC right there. I just do not subscribed to the anyone but Henne policy.
It goes to show that sometimes things take time to develop. Previous season just proves that continue to try to develop the running game was not foolish because it worked before. If I do something that works in the past, there is a good chance that I at least try to do it again in the future. Without that humans cannot learn.
once again Dup, when I use that word it is all relatively speaking.. why are you not putting that into context yet I am...
Mark Resetilli Dej: I think he may make my 2011 longshot list Deej, not to hijack your thread, just to point out maybe they addressed ST after all, Resetilli adds 10 pds and does not lose that mobility we may have something here, little man is kinda freakish athlete.
I never said he was..I have included other variables thru all 6 of these threads..Special teams, major variable to our demise, Jason Allen, addition by subtraction, ronnie and ricky are yucky thru 6, 1st year in this defensive scheme..a lot of these other variables are disrupting chemistry on the offensive side...Yet Henne has continued to play thru it..and has played well..Hey man,Iam not saying he isn't going to crack, I am saying if you cant credit him thru these 6 games, than its hard for me to trust what you are seeing.
For a young QB in his 2nd year starting, with variables that don't look to pretty surrounding him, that directly affect the position.
do you know if we have had contact or somethin? Special teams need to be treated as such as soon as free agency starts...I would go after 1 nice guard, 1 nice inside linebacker, maybe trim Reggie's bush, and the rest of my free agents would be all demons like that paison.
He is out one CFLer signed this offseason, 6'2/215/4.4. Cat has skinny legs as well, dude needs more squats and stiff legged deaf lifts.
We didnt run it well vs ATL or San Diego, but we pulverized the Colts, Bills & Jets on the ground, & we ran all over the Saints (for 1 half) as well. Not sure where you're going with that one. I agree with you on the 3rd and 2 play, it wasn't a bad call in that spot. The LDE actually slants right and if Ricky had seen the cutback lane he'd have gotten the first down easily, just another example of our RBs suckage. I agree w/ you on the first drive also, it's not Henning's fault that Polite whiffed on an easy block vs a DB, or that Ronnie didn't recognize that he was hot, just another example of our RBs suckage. But, overall, we've got to at least TRY to put the ball into the end zone, Henning is playing with house money at that point so there's no reason not to. He max protected on the play action pass, Marshall was the only WR out, as if the defense was going to forget about our only legit red zone threat, while we're in the red zone. It's comically stupid to expect that. Was he worried about a sack? Who cares, a sack doesn't take us out of FG range in that spot. Worried about an INT? Henne had thrown 2 up till that point in the season, one on the last play of the Jets game, and another vs GB where Marshall fell out of his break. There wasn't much precedent for thinking Henne would screw it up, and again, we're playing w/ house money at that point so go for the jugular. Point being, of all the people you could possibly blame for screwing the pooch in that game, Chad Henne is not one of them. Not even close. And yet, a couple weeks later the guy loses his job. The scapegoat.
Great post DJ, agree with all of it. The kid went out against the NFL's number 1 and number 2 defenses and played pretty damn well in back to back weeks. Yet b/c of Henning's limp dick play calling, Allen getting smoked, terrible KO coverage, Hines Ward running wild, Ronnie & Ricky running nowhere etc, we lose. Oh, and there was a controversial call at the end of that game IIRC. By my count, that's 6 games, 5 of which he played well in, I''ll give him a minus for the NE game b/c of the INTs. Next up Cincinnati, and w/ the exception of that idiot INT to Hartline on the post route, he played well in that game to. But I don't wanna spoil it for ya so I'll shut up now. Oh, and you're running outta time to find a reason for benching him by mid-season...
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/videobeta/?watchId=dea851a2-0d11-49ac-8c1b-e2b3dd641a17 Going with what Lydon Murtha said by looking at the playbook for an hour, Miami is going to open it up
So we should ignore Henne's early success and quality play so that we could focus on a horrendous ground game with the hopes it finally turns around? I disagree again with that philosophy.
wait, the benching came 2 weeks after this game?.....Holy mother bleepin BS...wow... This post is spot on, especially the part where Henne thru 2 ints thru 6 games {which is totally acceptable for a 2nd year starter}..Holy sh^% man, they made the kid the scapegoat, for their own futility...I'am gettin pissed off man...you know who pisses me off in that scenario?...sparano...maybe Nabo is on to something...or maybe after looking at the tape, he realized what an ******* he was for benching the kid, and thats why we didn't go after a qb in the draft, maybe to show his some respect..idk at this point, maybe Henning told Sparano we should bench him?...pric.. No matter what happens from here on out, I was wrong...The benching was not warranted, no freakin way, not even close..bastards.They ruined that kid.. Dupree, after the way he played for the first 6 games of the season, he did not deserve that benching man..
Does anyone know Henne's paser rating after 6 games sans the BS int at the end vrs pitt that they counted.
I've complained that we were put in the position to rely too heavily on Henne....... making it even worse that we take the ball out of his hands inside the 35 after using him to do most of the work. The guy who gets you there should be given the opportunity to finish the drive. At least that's how I feel.
It was roughly around 90 IIRC. It was posted temporarily before the NFL updated it to include the INT. If Marshall didn't fall down in the Packer game and Henne weren't forced to throw a pass at the end of the Jets game, his rating was most likely around a 100 through game 6.
you can use my password. I'll PM you with it later when I remember what the heck it was. What's with the freakin coconuts? The only coconuts I want are in my avatar. Can you get me some of those?
Rating was 86.6. 8 TD. 5 INT. 7.05 YPA. 11.16 YPC. Supposing we take out that INT at the end of the Pats game which could be faulted 50/50 or more so, he jumps to 88.89. Supposing we took out the INT at the end of the Jets game where a route mix-up changes the amount of players in the area, we get to...90.9. So Officially, he's at 86.6. Cases can be made for the two higher ratings. We are disregarding the Pitt INT. The thing is, the stat that is making people so blind toward the kid, has nothing to do with passing. It's the W/L column. You have 6 games so far and no loss can be blamed on the QB yet but we're 3-3. In the eyes of many Dolphins fans, if a QB is playing well, that means the team should be winning. If the team isn't winning, the QB must not be playing well. Last year, Philip Rivers was in great position to break Dan Marino's passing yardage record. They didn't even make the playoffs because...surprise surprise, their running game was 15th in the league and their Special Teams (the biggest culprit) was TERRIBLE. I need some people to answer some questions for me. In spite of the lack of help, Philip Rivers went out and played spectacular every game. Why then, did they still not make the playoffs? Did Philip not make people around him better? Did Philip Rivers not do all of the stuff you said Henne should do? Did they still not win? In the face of evidence of a possible future HOF QB not being able to overcome a weak running game and Special teams. Even though the Chargers had the number 10 ranked Scoring Defense. The number one ranked offense. Is it that running the ball and Special Teams are just that important and you've underestimated the game because you heard somewhere on television that someone said you have to pass to win?
Yessir. After Pitt is @ Cincy and @ Baltimore, he was benched after the Ravens game. I totally agree it was unwarranted, which is where I came up w/ my semi-crazy conspiracy theory, that the coaches never wanted to play Henne in the first place. The theory is that they trusted Pennington, he was the team leader etc, but someone above their head (Ireland-Ross???) named Henne the starter. Remember, Henne was named the starter for 2010 before the 2009 season, arbitrarily I might add. He never beat Penny out, there was never even a competition. Henne never seemed to take the leadership role, Penne remained the most respected guy in the locker room, especially on offense. I'm guessing this didn't sit well w/ not only the coaches, but a significant portion of the players also. Either that, or the coaches felt that absent a run game Henne wasnt ready to carry the offense and that it's better for Penne to take the lumps than risk damaging Henne's confidence. But if they were worried about Henne's confidence they wouldnt have been yanking him out for the WC every time we got into scoring range. Or maybe there's no logical reason at all, and they just friggin panicked. Who knows? What I do know is that when I look at Henne's body of work up until Baltimore, I don't see how anyone could've reasonably expected much more out of him. And I certainly don't think there was any on field performance based grounds for benching him.
Maybe it was simple. Miami wasn't scoring points and were not being successful. They had success under Pennington and thought they would give that a try.
I apologize to Chad Henne..I was wrong in calling for you to get benched mid season..That was stupid on my part, I'am embarrassed of my analysis, and you surely didn't deserve it.. Do you all realize that after the Pittsburgh game, which was game 6, if it weren't for 1 forced throw at the end of the jet game, and one missed toe tap by Marshall at the end of the half of the packer game, for 6, on a nice throw by Henne, he would be right around a 100 passer rating...As it was, after 6 games his rating was right around 90.. I would like to pose a challenge to those who can make the case that a 2nd year starting QB, relative to some of the variables that we know were not in his favor, deserved to be benched, 2 games later after the way he played the first 6?. This kid took the hit man, Its all on the tape. I'am not sure we can legitimately analyze the Player after a very unjust, seemingly corrupt decision to put the player on the bench?
that's quite possible, but how could you put that on a QB whom you give few opportunities to inside the 35 after he's marched you down the field despite having one of the worst starting field positions in the NFL. Seriously, 29th in starting field position, 29th in RunWPA, but only 11th in punts per drive %age. Something doesn't add up, especially when our QB had one of the fewest redzone opportunities in the NFL (and I'm sure it's equally as worse when including anything inside FG range). And we can't say it's because Henne was unsuccessful in the redzone because he was virtually identical to Brees, only with half the opportunities. I still think his benching was a way to isolate Henning as the primary cause of our offense's failure. (and before anyone says anything, notice I said primary and not "only")
That's all I'm sayin. it's obvious the 2nd half of the season turned to crap; however, there were so many crippling variables involved that I believe Chad should only be judged on the first half of 2010. That's enough body of work to rely on IMO..... and that's enough body of work to give me faith that he deserves a legitimate shot at being our starter, especially after the effort he's given this offseason. I see absolutely no reason why he can't be a better QB than he was during the first half of 2010 when factoring in an improved ground game, improved Oline, more weapons, better coaching, improved depth at skill positions, and the adversity he was forced to endure in the 2nd half of last year.
IMO, since football is still a business, crap will inevitably occur behind closed doors that aren't necessarily congruent with the actions taken.
It'd be respectful to the fans if they ever came clean with the actual reasoning, but we both know there's a fat chance in heck of that happening. IMO it's a lot easier to say something like "we just wanted to see if another player with more experience could spark the offense" and scapegoat Henne in the process in order to spare Henning from any embarrassment after a long career---- just like the crap a police station will pull when a corrupt cop dies in the line of duty and they honor him posthumously to avoid shaming and embarrassing his family.
It is for me too, but I hope DJ continues with his rewatching the rest of the games and giving us his findings. It is some of most enjoyable helpful reading we got going on here of late.
