That was the game where we had 41 seconds and 0 TOs and Henning sends in base personnel, 2 backs, 2 WR & a TE. Henne checked down b/c our outside guys were both bracketed and the subs attempt was icing on the cake. I'll never understand why we were not in 3-4-5 wide for that drive. This is after Henning went WC on 2nd & 9, killing our momentum on the previous drive before DC missed the FG. Henne was 33-45 276 yds 1 TD 1 INT and 1 idiot offensive Coordniator in that game. Not sure why any one would sour on the QB after a game like that.
What was worse..this was after a change in possession, they KNEW we were getting the ball, and that is what they ran out there. For whatever reason, two yrs in a row Henning just ****ed us vs the Bills, pardon the french, but in 09 recall the Ricky Williams WC pass that was intercepted in the endzone? BOTH yrs those were games we had to win to keep in the playoff hunt in even a semi serious manner. That is another thing I'd love to get to the bottom of, afterwards Sparano said "Henne did the right thing, they were giving him a certain look" I'd like to think Sparano was just protecting Henne and his staff, but he looked like a complete idiot afterwards.
Suh is relevant why? Suh didn't have a good rookie season, he had a GREAT one. It doesn't mean Dareus can't play well.
While Javier Arenas is playing well as a slotback. Clearly, you threw something against the wall and hoped it would stick.
Smith isn't defense. Cody is going into his 2nd year, kind of soon to be dissing him. I'd love to have Arenas on the Dolphins.
What do you mean seriously? The guy is a good cornerback. Andre Smith is a defensive player? Terrance Cody is developing. Kareem Jackson played like **** last year, yeah. He will get better. He's got some of the best mirror skills and his ability to click and drive is some of the best I've seen. Again you're throwing stuff against the wall and hoping it sticks. Clearly, Saban's defensive players have made an impact.
Both big men, both sloppy fat, both cannot see the field. Yet Dareus will be different! Eh, it is a show me league, no need to argue we will see for ourselves.
Ok then why did you say, and I quote, "Suh had a good Rook season, and Dareus is nowhere near the prospect he was coming out."?
I never said "defense only" I said lil nicky's guys are not doing very well in the NFL, regardless of which side of the ball they were drafted to play on.
You implied it. Quote: "Name me the last Nick Saban coached college defensive player who made a impact in the NFL?"
Either way, his guys are not doing very well in the NFL, care to bet on how well Seattle's James Carpenter doesn't play?
Suspect, of dubious value, more then likely guilty of falsehood, of questionable worth etc. Recall Alen, in the great "draft a Qb debates" over the yrs, the questionable history of highly drafted DT's has been completely hashed out, to be blunt it is more likely that a high pick DT busts then a high pick Qb since say 2002 or so.
Ok, what will the bet be? Name your poison. I like the dude. I recall Con likes him, which makes me feel better about my liking him. IMO, the one risky Bama player, since you have expanded the debate from defense to both sides of the ball, is Julio Jones.
He also was a 4th rd pick who was not expected to play quickly and struggled with weight problems prior to last season. Some forget that he had to have a person detailed to him to make sure he got out of bed etc.
I like Carpenter, personally. I wouldn't have taken him that high but he's a good player. I like him at RT. Some liked him at LT though. I watched him live against Michigan St. in teh bowl game and was impressed.
Well gosh, drop Andre Smith and just look at Cody and Jackson and Mclain was not very good for the Raiders. Let me clarify then: Lil Nick Saban's Alabama Draftees kinda sucked so far in the NFL, from BOTH sides of the ball Clear enough?
Ask Conu about Chris Williams sometime. He is one of the dudes I like to needle Rich about every now and then..
He missed two games and was not very good Alen, other then picking off Chad Henne, but that is sort of like hitting your little sister. I mean if one wishes to say McClain was decent, that still leaves Cody, Smith, Jackson who have been pretty much busts. http://articles.sfgate.com/2010-10-...inator-kirk-morrison-rookie-middle-linebacker
It appears to me you are dissing on Dareus simply because he is from Bama. If he were out of Florida, Georgia, or Auburn, you wouldn't be calling him "suspect". That IMO is downright silly to judge him based on other players from the same school and only one of them plays DL. If someone like Kiper, Mayock et al said "Well, I'm very suspect of Dareus because Terrence Cody came out of the same school last year and couldn't get on the field", we'd say they were crazy.
For a reason Mr C, not only Lil Nicky's draftees poor performance in general, but also because DT's taken high have not had very good success in general, Suh and MCoy were the last two DT's that to me were special talents, Sed Ellis maybe can be special but tore his knee up and I suspect it is a long term issue with him. Eh, put it this way, when Dorsey, Robinson, Okoye, Jackson, Carriker, Bunley were taken they all liked them as well. As I said, no worries, it will all come out in the wash.
WTF??? Cody played 13 games as a backup on one of the better DLs in the league as a rookie. Sure, Jackson struggled some, but many rookie CBs do. Andre Smith, I'll give ya, though he could still turn it on with only 2 seasons behind him. Only people who call players a bust based on just their rookie seasons are fools and damned fools.
I recall now, last yr when I cruised Raiders boards looking for stuff on Russell, it was clear that he was very disliked with a couple of people posting stuff about Morrison outplaying him and how he was really slow in coverage. YMMV but I'm beginning to look askance at Saban's Alabama guys the way I looked at Carrol's USC players.
You are quoting an article from week 6 to try and support a weak argument? The Raiders went 6-4 after that, McClain finished with 85 tackles in 15 starts. Not bad for a rookie
And were they proven wrong in their liking of all these players? Who is a DL named Robinson btw? As for Jackson, if you mean the DE from USC that the Seahawks took, everyone of the media gurus called it a big reach.
