Eh, well the Steelers are far more settled a team then we are, but to me the real curious aspect is they must have seen Mike Pouncey as something other then a C as they had Markice a all pro Center.

No front office is that stupid...Everyone knew we were trying to trade out of that pick. If they wanted him, he was there for the taking.

Thanks Padre, I now hate myself for responding, I hope you're happy...

Actually I thought the Steelers were our best chance to trade down in an effort for them to draft Pouncey .

They did draft Gilbert ,the Pounceys twins companion on the UF OL as an alternative choice though.

Well, the way I see it, Ireland did not try to trade out of the #15 pick as we could have easily swapped #1 picks with NOLA and picked up their #2 and #4, as they sold the farm to the patriots in 2012 to trade up to draft Ingram.

I suspect it was well known we were going to take Pouncey around the league, the Stealers deal sounds like a "surprise" option if we passed on him as the Redskins were trading back below trade chart value, which is why we dealt with them to move back into rd #2 to take DTrain.

This maybe true, but it also maybe true that we didn't like what the Steelers will willing to give up. The trade has to make sense, you just don't do it for the hell of it.

Not sure I buy anything Daniel Snyder has to say, but when you're a Super Bowl caliber team with your franchise passer in place like the Steelers, you can afford to take a Guard in the 1st; even to trade up for him.

I know what you mean but they did have discussions with Kansas City in the pre-draft process.

Either Miami wanted Pouncey over any trade down or more likely, they talked to the Steelers and they couldn't get enough to justify missing out on MP. My guess is that their fall back option was Ingram, but they didn't believe he'd make it to #31 (rightfully so). Their third choice may have been CKap.

Uhhm, welll now Snyder's PR guy is saying he did not have an interview on Sirrius Radio this weekend.

Poor fella, suspect the lack of free agency is getting to him.

That's what is messed up, Ireland seemed adamant that their were no trade down takers. That and I didn't know the Skins were pegged as such suckers.

Skins made a couple of trade backs that were below market value they wanted to accumulate picks even if they took a small shave on the deals.

And how can it be read other then they wanted Pouncey all along? Even the Browns trade back, then back up with KC for a early 3rd rd pick and that was to move up to #21, the Browns 3rd round pick was the #70, which is still more or less late 2nd rd talent on the board.

I googled and didn't find any quotes about Ireland actively shopping the pick. Ireland sounded as if he listened to offers, but wasn't shopping it.

People seem to think that all information is recorded on the internet and that if it's not there it didn't happen. Ireland stated several times that he wanted to recoup that second.

Why does that automatically entail us trading down from 15? Ireland saying he wants to recoup the second doesn't really tell us much of anything, other than he wants a second round pick.

Well there were limited options. Players couldn't be traded so that leaves trading down, trading up or trading next year's picks. I recall Ireland sating before this draft that he was game for anything including trading down in the first. I also recall him stating that he would explore all options. That implies to me that trading down was a possibility that was probably explored regardless of whether we ever read on the net that Ireland specifically spoke to anyone about trading down.

Yes, it absolutely was a possibility. What I take issue with, is assuming that "everyone knew we were trying to trade the pick".

I think its also prudent to point out that we did get a 2nd round pick without trading out of 15.

Irish also stated they never called any team re the pick nor were they contacted. He said contacting to trade out is not optimum , yet they were contacted to trade up for Danny Thomas , funny how it works one way and not the other.

Considering how long it took us to make the pick, I'm led to believe we were looking for buyers but either found none or couldn't come to an agreeable trade.

It's about leverage. The difference between a buyer's and seller's market.

If you go by the trade chart (and I do that less and less each year), Miami came out well ahead in that deal.

At any rate, it's not hard to figure out IMO if you believe Jeff Ireland. That they were sitting there and the phone simply wasn't ringing. Either it didn't ring and/or they didn't get much of an offer when it did. And they liked the guy they picked. That simple IMO.

Peter retracted his story after Bruce Allen came out and said he was never contacted by the Steelers about the pick (you can use the OP's link to read his statement in the same place in his column). Typical Peter King, hears something and puts it in his column with no credible evidence to back it up.
