The Dolphins have had numerous injuries which impacted the team over the past two seasons. Some, like Marshall and Dansby, were for a matter of games. Others, like Allen and Odrick, were for the season. And a few, like Penny and Grove, were for their careers. How did these injuries affect the team's past, present, and future as far as our records, player development, drafts, FA, trades, depth, fans, etc.? Any silver linings created by them? For example, Odrick starts and gets hurt, missing almost the entire year. Starks moves over and plays very well. Soliai moves in and plays great. We don't have to draft or sign a NT. Mc D plays more and well. And we likely won a game or so due to Odrick's injury.
Odrick was a bad pick for this very reason. We didn't need to take a DT. That is one of the strengths of this team. I see Odrick as being a bust honestly because of the injuries.
How about the injuries to Grove and Smiley. IF they stayed healthy we could have Cog with them, and no need to pick Jerry or Pouncey. That would have made a big difference.
You completely ignored the point of the OP in order to bash the Odrick pick. And you wonder why so many here can't stand you. I'm serious. This is a great example.
Then every draft pick is a bust until they play. As for the injuries, hate the excuse virus SB, Sparano and his staff did a better job of coaching up guys, and Ireland found better players, this is not an issue and really should never really be an issue.
No excuse or issue Padre. Just looking at the domino effects of injuries, both good and bad. How Ireland and Sparano handled them is a part of it.
Here is the problem SB, the way I see it, Sparano as a philosophy prefers younger players, he feels they can be coached up if they are driven to learn and to play, Ireland then makes it a policy that when payroll is added, players are waived to pay for the signing. That situation means we have no proven depth..by design, that is how they do things, for example 50% of the linebacking corps from 09 moving into 10 was released, 5 guys, those guys played ST as well the Andersons and Ayodele's, ST cost us games in 2010. We have no veteran depth on any unit, on this team, nowhere, maybe Will Allen if he comes back or Sapp, that is about it, look at the Te corps, we have Fasano and unknowns, Fasano goes down and the offense suffers as Shuler and Co are not up to speed, that is squarely on Ireland and Sparano.
Good point. I guess cause I just wanted to point out his habitual nature of being negative about everything, even when its not even relevant. To quote the great Perry Farell: True hunting is over. No herds to follow. Without game, men prey on each other. I wish this lockout was over!
I see what you're saying but, don't see the connection to the injuries. For example, with a healthy Will Allen we don't trade Cam for Sapp (who I think sucked). On the other side, the trade allowed Hartline much more playing time to develop, a VG thing, and gave Wallace and Moore a shot.
Greg C and Sapp were more then likely both going to be cut SB. So Hartline goes down, we look to the bench and find not Greg C, but Marlon Moore, Greg C produces and you know what you are getting, MM not so much, Sparano went with MM.
I wasn't bashing the Odrick pick I was giving my opinion of the situation. If it hurt you so much that you have to personally attack me then that is not my problem. You shouldn't get upset over a guy who people can't stand anyway.
I'm no more negative than anyone else here. In fact I support our young team more than a lot of people who go around bashing at will. I've seen you and everyone else here do it at times. As far as being relevant why do you say my post earlier in the thread wasn't relevant. SB mentioned Odrick in his post and I responded to it. Take a look back please it wasn't really off the track at all. I'm a fan and I have a right to an opinion here as well as anyone else. I'm sorry if it is not exactly in tune with your opinions. If you think about it maybe that is how do you say it "why people can't stand me here.
I luv ya man, as long as the check clears.. No offseason, not even OTA reports, no FA signings, nothing, we are sort of grinding metal on metal. Think you are incorrect about Odrick, but the great thing about the NFL is we all find out one way or another.
Time to take a look at an injury impact which will not cause any controversy or bashing. Henne was expected to take over the team, and to be our future. However, Penny's injury forced the timing of the takeover. Was Henne ready at that time? Did the timing help or hurt his development, and the QB he is now? Or, did it not matter?
We all know Odrick was taken to be a DE in this D, not a DT and certainly not a NT. However, there is another injured player coming back that is intriguing to me...that is Merling... Is Merling going to take the next step in his career ?? He looked like he'd be that guy as the offseason went along last year before he was injured. The indications are that Tony McD is gone once FA begins. Could Merling be his replacement ?? Don't forget all the other injuries to the OL that we had the last season...by the end of the year it was difficult just to get warm bodies along that OL. McQ, Berger, Feinga, Murtha all saw some playing time and I'm sure they were not the first choice, but the only choice. Attrition during the season has been an ongoing issue with this team...not just during this regimes' tenure either...
Oh, according to most folks around here, that has nothing to do with his success or lack of success. Most think he just doesn't have it...nevermind that the offense was set up for a different style QB and that the OC's play calling was just short of bizarre at times or that he has had a revolving door OL, mostly revolving backups for starters for his entire tenure as a QB, that the only target he has is Marshall and no speed at the WR position at all, not a TE on the roster that is anything better than mediocre, STs that have more often than not let teams right back into games with long returns, that they traded away the only decent returner we've had recently, oh, and a D that has been rebuilding, adequate but not spectacular...none of that matters...Henne just doesn't have it...
As I remember, Penne was not allowed around the team after his injury. Was that for games only or practice as well?
