CBS's Mike Freeman has been one of the leading info-getters during the lockout. Talks haven't broken off, but today wasn't a good day. http://mike-freeman.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6264363/30360298
If true, the NFL owners may want to consider buying another sport's team. I understand that the NBA is looking.
Seems like PR more than anything. The owners would prefer to give the impression that they lost negotiations and are paying the players more than they can afford.
You know, while I always sided with the players, I understood why people sided with the owners. Now, I don't see how.
never liked the idea of being victimized by a dependent. has the fog of addiction obliterated reason? we are the solution to the problem.
I don't support the Owners or the Players ........... I do support the game! A disagreement has to have two sides, most often neither side is all right or wrong. I haven't posted here in quite some time and will continue to do as now doing, not because of any dislike of anyone here but I just so very disgusted by all parties and this he said she said BS! As I've declared elsewhere I will quit NFL football if we lose even one game, not one regular season game, I mean one game ..... July 23rd is my cutoff date! After that they can kiss my royal and wide behind! Carry on!
Because it's a waste of time. The meeting today between the owners and the players were intimate. there were just a handful of people, and they sat down with the US Magistrate. So what's more believable, that the handful of players are in there texting while the US Magistrate witnesses the owners playing mind games, or that this is just made up. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AoVhDPCd.J5T0h0Q2jRfSmU5nYcB?slug=ap-nfllabor The only neutral party in there is the US Magistrate, so if he says something, I'll believe it. Until then, I file this under bulls--
Why does it have to be like this? Can't we just discuss topics without trying to rub one another's noses in things? Brings nothing relevant to the discussion.
ehh i think Freeman is trying to cover his *** because he was the one who was saying a deal is right about to be done... now nothing happened so hes pointing a finger... my guess anyway... i think things are moving in the right direction because we're getting near the point where games would start to be effected, and the fact that the first exhibition game is the HOF game means they def dont want to miss that... i think thats a benefit for the players, players dont care about exhibition games, but owners stand to start really losing money if even 1 of those is missed...
Why should they get a pass? They have called the players socialists, communists & treated the players, the ones who actually make the entertainment that is the league, seem like the bad guys. Its time for them to step up to the plate and admit the owners have at least a 50% culpability in this mess.
I wonder if the people in here would continue to call Mike Freeman a bold-faced liar if he was standing in front of them. It always astounds me when people accuse journalists of just completely making sh-t up when they cite sources. Sources might make sh-t up, but journalists rarely do...unless they're named Woody.
i didn't call him a "bold-faced liar", but do i think he is maybe covering his ***, absolutely... im not saying he didn't get the info from his sources, but apparently the info was no correct, and he was quoted by every other NFL journalist in saying that the lockout will be over soon... and he was wrong... is it that far fetched that hes hunting for a reason why it didn't end yet as he reported?
wow generalization overload... ok then we're all liars, im sure we've all told a lie at some point... so i guess im calling him and the entire human race bold-faced liars... cmon i think hes looking for stories to justify why the lockout hasn't ended yet, because he predicted itd be over by now and that hasn't happened... so to "cover his ***" he'll search out reasons for why thats the case... have owners (and players im sure) gone back and forth in negotiations hundreds of times with numbers or concessions? im sure... is that necessarily a story? i dont think so, but i think it makes sense he'd make it a story because he is looking for reasons to pass the blame to someone for why his prediction hasn't come true yet... again just my opinion, call it cynical, call it whatever, who really gives a ****, i have no idea whats going on with negotiations... and i dont think many people outside of those rooms do either...
Freeman, just like all other media, is just talking crap. He said sources, but who? Who gave him his info. Hell, my source tells me other things. Isnt it funny, when you hear a reporter say, "from my source"', it's usually crap. Name your source dumbasses!!
I find that you're the one making generalizations. Freeman said very specifically that he received a series of text messages from sources familiar with negotiations that made specific claims that in Thursday's negotiations, the owners resumed various specific and described "tricks" that they hadn't been using since March. Are you saying he lied when he said this, or are you not?
While I have no problem believing that the owners may be doing this, it sounds like a very one-sided version of events.
Yeah, I have sources... don't I fellas? In all seriousness, pointing fingers at either side really ignores the 800 pound gorilla in the room. WE are to blame. Without US, there is no sport. The question is, how do we put this power to good use?
yeah Muck I agree bwhy not just discuss th topic? why does it turn into a calling out session. Both sides ate richer than rich, both sides play games, if you think the players arent your kidding yourselves. did freeman lie? nope most likely not, did he interpret info that he received which could be not entirely true? possibly. but all this "i am right you are wrong where are you to heap praise on me for my perceived victory" crap make you sound like whining biches
Come on CK, why can't these media dumbasses name their sources? Most of the time these reporters are wrong anyway.
im saying that these "tricks" aren't tricks but a process of negotiations... he can call them "tricks" as a way to point a finger at one side or put the blame on someone... players can call it tricks, owners can call it negotiations, friggen Newt Gingrich can call it God's way of punishing our sinful country... it all just depends on what side you are looking from or what you want to perceive or what message you are trying to get out there... what im saying is it seems Freeman is trying to put his skew on the happenings to point a finger... just my opinion, no need to take offense or anything, cause really mine and anyone elses opinion in here means nothing in this matter...
Usually when a reporter opens their mouth and says, "from my source", it's the same air that comes out of my butt after eating beans.
Journalists, those with integrity at least, have sources that they need to remain anonymous or they won't remain sources of info. Cmon dude, use what God gave you. Usually they have 2 sources, one tells them info, and then before publishing, they have another source confirm it. Its been that way forever. If you slam this guy for making things up, that maybe actually is an actionable thing if he wanted to pursue it.
So.....just because a reporter has a source, they are always speaking the truth?? I'm just saying that most if the time the reporter/media has to say something.....whether it's right or wrong. It's their job to report, not necessary report the truth.
No they need TWO independent sources, one that tells the information, and one that confirms, independent of each other. That is the way journalism has worked for a century or more.
This process stopped a long time ago. Hold on, I need to check my twitter account to see what the news of the day is...
I wonder just how much of this can be put on the commish ' s shoulders it seems to me that Goodell is in the owners pockets or this would be getting done by now. I know this if Wayne Huzienga speelling ? was our owner instead of Ross I bet that Wayne would not be so close minded like Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder are. I know many fans disliked Wayne but He was a a more down to earth owner Ross reminds me of a Al Davis some. the truth , if I was the commish I would tell the owners that they need to stop being greedy and i wouls ask the players to ask for 30 % instead of 40 or 50% then things might get done.
I'm still waiting to see the details of the players' counter offer (from March)....if such a thing exists.
Their counter offer was no collective bargaining. Whats curious though, is why after talking about locking out the players for 2 years, the owners didn't make their first offer until hours before they locked the players out?
D!ck moves on the part of both parties. Because refusing to bargain isn't negotiatng...even moreso by definition of "refusing to colletively bargain." It's why you can't take sides one way or the other. Just gotta have a brew and wait for the season to start.
