Luck is definitely on the scale of Peyton Manning coming out IMO.

Good picks on LBs but, somewhat debatable on what they did beyond reputation. Not being able to name a better group of CBs says something. No one can dispute the lack of TOs but, how the hell many were they in position for?

I believe that most GMs would trade their CBs and LBs for ours, and it's based on talent, not being a Phan.

I disagree on the whole. Sure, plenty of teams would love Wake or Dansby but I doubt anybody is beating the door down for Crowder, Misi and dobbins.

And I'd put the Jets CBs above ours.

At the end of the day, fans overrate the players on their own team. I'm guilty of it as well, so it's no knock on anybody. I'm just trying to be more open minded.

Aside from the Long/ Matty Ice debate, who should they have taken that they did not? This argument makes little sense. There has to be a QB worth taking, and few see that. Peyton, Marino, and Elway were not there to be had.

being average is about right after year 3 in a rebuild of this magnitude, please show me the blueprint that says you have to be in the superbowl in the 4th year?, thats a crock, its about building the team's infrastructure, making sure were one of the youngest teams in the league because longevity and consistency is the ultimate goal, and in year 4, it's about being ready to compete for playoff football..If we win 10 games and for some reason don't make the playoffs then I'am not gonna dump them, I'am gonna respect that record in this process, and say next year will be the year to make a run at the ring.

What I'am sayin is, they don't deserve the hate, they haven't played the 4th season, put the damn rebuild into some sort of context and perspective, stop just wishing, and stop letting the past interfere with how you judge a regime that had nothing to do with our past and use some practical analysis of your team..

    Irrational excitement.''...Please..

Here's your bottom line, they took over one of the worst teams in history, they have a winning record during this rebuild, they have produced a division championship during the rebuild, they have put us in good shape in terms of our salary cap, and they have made us quite possibly, thee youngest team in football, a young team by the way that has experience playing together..

They don't deserve the criticism of this magnitude..Give them this year because its fair..

If so, by a slight advantage. Revis needs to get back in top form while Cromartie is nothing to shout about - unless you're a woman in his room I suppose - nor is Kyle Wilson at the moment.

Give me something on why the Jets are better at CB? Many believe Misi is gonna be a star, and had a great 1st year. I'm thinking you may want to open your mind to what the Phins now have. JMO

I don't have any choice but to give them this year. Whether it's "fair" or not is completely irrelevant to me.

7-9 seasons aren't all created equal. They are worse when you completely collapse in December two years in a row when you had playoff opportunities staring you in the face. they are worse when you go 1-7 at home, losing to luminaries such as Cleveland, Buffalo and Detroit.

We may be a young team and that is all well and good, but we are a young team that has accomplished squat over the last two years except collapsing in December.

Perhaps you will be correct and I'll be wrong, but I'm not going to pretend everything is roses. If Henne, Daboll, etc., prove me wrong then that will be great. I'm not willing to stake any money on it.

Cromartie will at least make a big play or two to counter his bonehead plays. Sean Smith has yet to do that.

And Revise is a pretty big step up from Vontae. He would make any tandem/crew better. Same with Asomouagh. If he goes to Houston, you'll see that they all of a sudden have a good secondary

Agree in general with CK's analysis though I would bump Pennington up further. He was 2nd in MVP voting and key to the best team in the past several yrs. And, he probably helped develop Henne as much as Henne could be developed. If Henne bombs, it will be b/c he simply can't play the spot. So that was a very solid FA acquisition (and they knew the arm was an issue).

As to Young - the whole thing for him, imo, hinges on his head. Forget about how he throws, when he is playing like he wants it can he move an offense and put points on the board? I think he can. I think he's demonstrated that. His problem is dedication and that's why the Titans rightfully released him - head case.

But, force him to compete - and he might actually get it together. I wouldn't open the vault but if he can be priced reasonably (with some incentives) - I'll take him for competition and a reasonable backup.

It's not a guy who can come in and start but there's not much out there in terms of QB's period in this league, let alone FA QB's (and, Palmer's numbers just don't justify going after him. He's mostly washed up if you ask me. Just not the same player his first few seasons).

Depends what you define as a big play. If a batted down pass is a big play, which it is in my book, then Sean Smith makes big plays. Cromartie is not just a boneheaded player, he's not as talented as many indicate.

If Asomougha goes to Houston, it doesn't mean they will have a good secondary. They may have a better one. Oakland's secondary wasn't good all the time. They were 23rd last year.

Not sure I see a problem with Revis. It's pretty simple for me:

    Revis > Vontae

    Cromartie > Smith

I also agree with Schmoo that Dolphin fans tend to overrate their own players. As does most every fan base in the league. I think any GM in the league would trade Vontae/Smith for Cromartie/Revis if one is talking about right now, this year. Future hard to tell.

Darelle Revis had issues last season. He was not in top form all season. I don't see how that makes me overrate a Dolphins player?

I didn't say that Revis wasn't better than Davis nor did I imply that. As for Cromartie, I'd take Smith over him.

    Disagree of course.

That was not the situation in Cleveland, Delhomme and Wallace both wound up with high ankle sprains, though Seneca Wallace played well when he started, and he has nice mobility, but once he went down then Daboll had to prep McCoy for the Saints and Pats, with few first team reps at that point in time, which is one of the real pluses in Daboll's corner imo.

Daboll managed to win with a rook Qb vs two of the best teams in the NFL, and that rook was supposed to have a Beck like "developmental" yr and all that goes with that situation.

McCoy, Hillis, Watson, along with working for Mangini and Belicheck and being Penny's Qb Coach in NJ, are the main reasons why Daboll was hired imo.

I think people are reading way too much into the Browns beating NE last year. It's alot more likely that it was just a fluke as it is that Daboll has some "secret" for beating NE.

I'm not insulting your intelligence DJ. You and I have known each other long enough to know that nothing is personal.

I don't see why I'm not judging this regime fairly. The last two years their results have been mediocre at best. The mediocre nature of the record made worse by December collapses against teams we could/should have beaten. And our lack of QB overshadows everything else, good, bad or indifferent.

I don't believe anyone can question the skills of Revis, he is as good as it gets, although he was not last year.

That being said, I claim that our CBs are top 5, and how good Revis is or, how bad Cromarte is, only enters in a bit.

So, even if you believe the FRACKIN Jets are better at CB, someone has to give me four more sets of CBs who are better than my Phins. It cannot be done.

I know Schmoot, but 2 times you have basically called my opinion's homerish, I know your not doing it on purpose but you are.

There is a philosophical difference that we keep getting stuck on..you view consecutive 7 and 9 seasons as a reason to be upset and not happy with the progress, I look at them as seasons that pretty much had to happen to get the team built the right way..I mean you can't expect winning seasons while this rebuild is happening, they have accomplished more wins as a team than any other has, since taking over the #1 pick, 3 full seasons later, the rebuild is happening Schmoot?, it is ongoing, the 4th year of play has not happened yet, and they have not showed their *** as a regime in the prior 3..The team has been competitive during the rebuild, and has built a young strong team..Where is the perspective?..

If they sh$# themselves this year, than sure, Iam on that Cowher train, but I really don't believe they deserve this level of criticism by big parts of the fanbase before they aquire some free agents, before they take a snap in their 4th year as a team..

That may be the perception, but my record I think would prove otherwise..

I'll give you an example of the way I root for my team..When we signed Joey Harrington, I gave him a clean slate because He never played in our uniform, on our field, in our system, People told me on how bad he was, and I had my preconceived evaluation of him from watching him play, I wasn't hyped about the signing, but I continued to give him support until I saw him being surrounded by our variables..... Once I saw him play a few preseason games, I knew he was sh^%, and I expressed it.

Are there some players that are not on our team that I have an unfavorable opinion about based on film, and if aquired, would I just lash out and say they were sh$#?, sure there are some of those, but you have to evaluate your team fairly, with all variables considered.

In no particular order and based on last year (not taking into account possible changes for the upcoming year due to FA of guys like Nnamdi or Joseph):

    1) Packers
    2) Jets
    3) Raiders
    4) Chiefs
    5) Falcons
    6) Bengals
    7) Broncos
    8) Chargers
    9) Giants
    10) Bucs

Now I think we have the POTENTIAL to be a top unit, but we must stop giving up the big play and pull down more INTs. We are not at this point in time a top 5 CB unit. Our young players still need to make a leap. Hopefully next year there will be no debate.

Linebackers I would say a top 10 unit, but top 5 would be pushing it I think.

DL I would agree we are definitely top 5. I don't know about numero uno, but it is a team strength no doubt.

    Safety we need better play.

Bottom line is our defense as a whole would easily be a top 10 and perhaps higher unit if we could get more TOs and INTs in particular. It is usually a hallmark of a Nolan D, and we were certainly in position to get them. Just need our folks to actually hold onto the ball.

Lawson is packing his bags, now whether or not we sign him remains to be seen, suspect we do not, but if we do that would give Nolan a boatload of flexibility on the Lb corps as Lawson has forward and reverse gears and Wake/Crowder/Dansby/Lawson with Misi as the top reserve would make our Lb corps the best in the AFCE.

DJ, Being "homerish" is far from a bad thing. Joey is a VG example, and I did the same as you did. However, I would have had a different opinion if it was not my Dolphins he was coming to.

You, Padre, and most of this forum look at both sides, and are realistic but, we all look for a Phins player to be a bit better than what he has shown, and look for reasons. NOT excuses, as to why he will be better.

That is being "homerish" but, NOT a Mr Simpson (aka Homer). There is a very big difference.

I point out the positives of our team that may have direct impact on the future of the player and our teams success..

For example...Pouncey and Solai are gonna make each other better because of direct competition every day, which is gonna impact our team directly..

I guess because I point that out i'am part of the goody goody rah rah club....

Its all BS...anyone who wants to use that term on me, I say lets let the record speak to see who's right more often.

Well, the way I see it Pouncey will be tossed into the fire in the very first game going up against Wilfork and Mike Wright, Soliai is good but not as proven as Wilfork nor as massive or experienced.

As for the goody rah rah stuff, people like to chew on the bones of last season, that is just human nature.

I don't see how that note on Manny Lawson makes sense. He's a left outside linebacker. That's not the primary rush position, nor has he been a primary rusher. He actually seems to drop back more than he rushes, when he's in the 3-4. They really love his athleticism and fluidity, his long body out in coverage. You can tell. How does Aldon Smith, who is for now almost certainly a pure pass rusher, replace Manny Lawson?

Maybe they do let Manny Lawson go but I doubt it'll be because of Aldon Smith taking his reps. They had a system in 2010 where Manny Lawson and Parys Haralson would come on for a couple series, and then Travis Laboy and Ahmad Brooks would come in and replace them for a series or two. They usually worked it out like that....Lawson/Haralson then Laboy/Brooks. The 49ers have 3 of those 4 as free agents. I'm guessing they'll have 2 back. If Lawson is the odd man out, then I'm guessing Ahmad Brooks gets a promotion up to #1 LOLB, Travis Laboy shifts from #2 ROLB to #2 LOLB, and Aldon Smith plays #2 ROLB. Or maybe they don't flip Travis over, they have Aldon take #2 LOLB, but they hardly ever have him backing up into coverage. But I'd bet on the former.

I would be the guy making that argument. Asomugha loses to Revis only in terms of the media market in which he plays. Revis gets more coverage in a louder town, thus is considered the best by default.

I also think Woodson is still better than Revis, though Woodson is beginning to noticeably decline. Tramon Williams may be the better Packers corner now, so it's tough for me to state Woodson's superiority to Revis as an absolute. As recently as 2009 I would have had no problem taking Woodson over Revis. Now it's a tough call.

Being at worst the 3rd best CB in the NFL is still a pretty damn good place to be.

man do I disagree with you and Alen on this one...Revis being considered 3rd?.no way Des..

This guy cheats and covers at the same time giving his teammates extra room to roam..

The quickness in his reactions to his opponent's deeks and cuts is 2nd to none..His strength up against his opponent is disheartening..I've watched the guy play at 3/4 speed because that's all he needs to play at against certain opponents.

Without Darrelle Revis the Jets ain't sh%$.

Revis, last year, played 839 snaps, was thrown at 57 times. gave up 369 yds, 16.8 avg, 3 Tds, and 0 picks.

VD, 1025 snaps, thrown at 72 times, gave up 530 yds, 11.8 avg, 3 TDs, and had a pick.

SS, 661 snaps, thrown at 44 times, gave up 325 yds, 13.5 avg, 1 TD, and 1 pick.

This does, in no way, mean that Revis is not the better player. But, last year he was not.

I really like his game, think he and Will Allen are going to make our secondary rock solid.
