Agent David Canter thinks it breaks down like this: -Deal finalized Mon/Tues -Anti Trust lawsuit settled/Doty settlement resolved -Thursday Owners vote for ratification -Union re certifies and votes on Deal -Monday the 25th 3 day window for teams to negotiate with their own FA's opens along with Training Camps UDFA signings can begin (Mark Schleichel baby!) -Wednesday the 28th FA really begins
Well, sort of, the teams having a shot to sign guys who made it to this point will have the effect of mopping up some of the players who maybe using us to drive up prices. Other interesting thing is the Vince Young 10 day clock starts ticking, by 8/5 they have to pay him, or cut or trade him, if we don't sign a FA Qb or make a trade for an Orton or whomever Young will then be a much clearer option for us then he is currently, no way they want to wait to bring someone in to compete with Henne, 9 days lost on this shortened learning curve is huge.
I tuned out the negotiations over the past month. I was begining to drive myself nutrs following it. Anyone got a link to what they have finally agreed on. I'm sure I wont like it but I'ld still like to know what they agreed too.
Well, I probably will be as well, as Canter said though, he expects tampering nod prior to the official kickoff and some of that will leak out. Be warned though, I have a suspicion that Ross may not open the wallet as wide as some folks may think he will keep in mind they may deny it, they may say "he wasn't on the plane" but Karl Peterson is tight with Ross and he was never known for signing big money free agents.
I'm actually surprised I haven't had a warning or a pm telling me to back off my views on some things...lol I know I've made comments, but I believe in what I say. Anyway, you should ban me for a day........lol
Does this mean I can start following football again? I almost completely tuned out through this. Been following very little of it other than to check status. I've got alot of catching up to do.
My understanding is that the deal is approved this Thurs July 21, then Fri, Sat and Sun are for signing your own FAs and rookie FA, with real FA starting Monday.
Not to throw too much water on the parade here, but the contract has not been agreed on. The players (as was reported this am - Sun) are making a last ditch effort to squeeze a bit more cash from the league and it could cause the whole thing to topple over...I said could... Go back to what you were doing and check in on Tuesday...we'll probably all have a better idea by then. The title is a bit misleading as the deal is not signed by either party yet and there are still a few minor outstanding issues... Still, it'll be great to get back to talking football again, maybe soon...
Isn't the 25th the day that UDFAs are free to sign while the 28th is the real start of free agency? I think at this point we have to assume the NFL and NFLPA will drag this out to where the owners are ratifying at the July 21st owners meetings.
Teams will also be able to negotiate with their own FA's for that 3 day period. I'm very much looking forward to the UDFA signing period, almost as much as actual free agency. The other thing to watch is the 10 named plantiffs in the Anti trust lawsuit, some of them have nothing to lose by not dropping the lawsuit, guys like Usi and Logan Mankins.
Based on the transition schedule, Fri, Sat,and Sun would be for teams FAs and rookie FAs are signed, and the 25th for real FA.
Not according to this report of the "transition rules" back when they were first made available to the public. Is there a report that the transition rules have been changed? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...sition-rules-in-effect-for-pos?urn=nfl-wp3281
My mistake, that is what I posted before, and nothing has changed. I gotta stop going to South Beach, the place.
I want to know if Ireland will get a player worthy of making the big big bucks or will he sign the worst players available.? that is my biggest fear.
